Carole “Ruth” (Ruthie) Bushue, nee Cochran, a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to strength and independence, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at her daughter’s home in St. Charles, Missouri, on September 30, 2024, at the age of 81.
Born on January 12, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri, she touched the lives of many with her warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her family.
A proud graduate of Granite City High School, class of 1962, Ruthie held diverse positions that showcased her strong work ethic and determination.
She made her mark in various roles, working at several groceries, serving as a waitress at Mense’s Landing in Washington, Missouri, and taking on the responsibilities of Shop Steward for Lincoln St. Louis in the late 1970s—a time when it was rare for women to take on such positions in male-dominated fields. Her influence as a strong female figure will be felt for generations.
In her later years, she was an accounts receivable clerk for an OB-GYN practice at Mercy Hospital St. Louis.
Beyond her professional achievements, Ruthie enjoyed and perfected her hobbies. She was an excellent seamstress and her skills in knitting and crocheting were remarkable. She was a talented woodworker and had a green thumb. Her beloved cats brought her countless moments of happiness. A spirited soul, she even shared her love for dance as a disco dancing instructor.
She excelled at every job and hobby she undertook, and her unwavering resolve and dedication inspired many yet her role as a mother and grandmother was her proudest accomplishment.
Ruthie was generous, fiercely independent with a great sense of humor that drew others to her. She was known for her kindness and was a wonderful role model for her daughters, Kelly (Jared Frankenberg) Kerr, Rebecca (Bobby) Hance, and Valerie (Jim) Warren.
Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren—Michael (Laura) Sullentrup, Alex Desmond, Alicia Desmond, Anthony (Taylor Leone) Barringhaus, Sophia (Adam) Cirone, and David (Samantha Lindert) Raub—as well as her great-granddaughters, Riley Desmond, Sloanne Desmond, and Alexis Sullentrup.
Ruthie leaves behind not only her loving daughters and cherished grandchildren but also her siblings: Sonja (Jim) Howard, Jack (Sally) Cochran, Michael (Mary) Cochran, and Colleen (Rob) Miller. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Maryann Cochran.
Preceding her in death, Ruthie was reunited with her beloved parents, Clifford and Verna Cochran; her son, Bruce Bushue; brothers Bruce Cochran and Merlie (Delores) Cochran; and longtime significant other, Don McMorris.
In her final moments, surrounded by her beloved daughters, Ruthie exemplified the love and strength she imparted throughout her life. She will be missed dearly but remembered always for the joy she brought into the lives of her family and friends. Her legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.

Steven Petrosky, passed away September 23, 2024, at home at the age of 56 after a long battle of illnesses.
Steve was a fighter and did his best. He is survived by his wife Kristine, his parents Bob and Barbara Petrosky children: Tessa Shonk, Chadd & Dustin Petrosky, grandchildren: Nova Shonk & Sicily Petrosky, sisters: Patricia Buckley & Michelle Banks and brother: Brian Petrosky, plus 3 nieces and 2 nephews.
Steve was a former Cannon Fire Direction Specialist in the US Army from 1990-1999. He worked at US Steel Granite Works. Steve received his bachelor’s degree at Columbia Southern University and attended Madison High School and graduated in 1985.
Steve loved life and would do anything for you. He loved to fish, go for adventures and grill. His passion for baseball was evident in his sports collection. A celebration of life will be held on October 19 at St. Mary’s Church – 1621 10th St. Madison, IL at 10 am Mass.

Bonnie Gamble, 84, of Maryville, Illinois, formerly of Granite City, Illinois, passed from life to everlasting life at 2:27 a.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
She was born on March 27, 1940 in Elisha, Arkansas, a daughter of Vince and Martha Williams.
Bonnie married the love of her life, Andrew Gamble on March 18, 1960 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Bonnie retired from Providence Occupational Health at St. Elizabeth Hospital Wellness Center, in Granite City, Illinois. In her retirement she worked Niedringhaus Methodist Church, Granite City, Illinois and Cornerstone Counseling in Maryville, Illinois. Bonnie was always passionate about serving others. After the closing of Niedringhaus Methodist Church, Bonnie became an active member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Maryville, Illinois. Bonnie was an avid reader and loved going to the movie theaters. She was blessed with wonderful friends that support her zeal for life. Bonnie loved to travel and had enjoyed visiting 13 countries. She enjoyed her retirement and embraced the opportunities that allowed her to venture out on bus trips and extended travel adventures. Bonnie was devoted to her family. She loved her two sons and welcomed several “bonus” sons that have continued to be an active part of her life. She was blessed with two grandsons that she absolutely adored. She loved supporting all their sporting events and appreciated the joy that they brought to her life. Bonnie championed many different causes in an effort to raise awareness and provide funding. She was especially passionate about the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure. Bonnie had two nieces that she felt were the “daughters” she never had. They were close as a tight family system with the children being like siblings. Bonnie made friends easily and those friendships were for a lifetime. She hosted bunko at her home to keep her friends together during her working years and in retirement. She loved her lunch group ladies from church and appreciated their social events.
In addition to her parents, Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Gamble that passed away in 1998, her younger son, Jeffrey Gamble that passed in 2018, her niece, Pam Beiter in 2004 and her brother, Richard Niswonger, and sisters, Katherine Poe and Mabel Rowe.
Bonnie is survived by her older son, Timothy Gamble, grandsons, Jacob Gamble and Thomas Gamble, her sister and brother-in-law, Alma and Pete Posey, her niece, Sue and Gary Moss, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of treasured friends.
Visitation at Irwin Chapel in Glen Carbon, Illinois is scheduled from October 10, 2024 4pm-7pm. Funeral Services at Irwin Chapel on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 10am with her Pastor Robin Lyons presiding over the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials/donations to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church for the completion of final arrangements will be collected at the funeral home.

Carylon Ruth Coryell, 83, of Granite City, Illinois went to be with her Lord and Savior at 5:25 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
She was born June 16, 1941, in McClure, Illinois, a daughter of the late Orvil and Maggie (Smiddy) Brown.
She married Bobby J. Coryell on October 28, 1961, at the Church of God parsonage in Bellwood, Illinois.
Carylon was a cosmetologist and enjoyed several years as a hairdresser out of her home. She was a faithful member of Bethel Chapel Pentecostal Church in Granite City. She cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed flowers, gardening, tending to her yard and reading.
In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rocky and Sandy Brown of Milan, Tennessee; seven grandchildren and spouses, Lane Mifflin, Ambre and Gil Patrick, Josh and Kia Coryell, Bobby J. Coryell, Jeremy Mifflin, Aaron Mifflin and wife, and Brandan and Elizabeth Mifflin; many great grandchildren; a brother, Gerald Brown of Anna, Illinois; a sister, Remonia Wright of Anna, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Jeffery Mifflin; a son, Dale Coryell and siblings, Shirley Downey, Robert Brown, Lonnie Brown, Bert Brown, Patty Reynolds and an infant brother, Orvil Brown.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Bethel Chapel Pentecostal Church, 2445 Ohio Avenue in Granite City on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until time of a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor David Brimm officiating.
She will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.

Derek Shawn Penrod, 44, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at his home on Monday, September 30, 2024.
He was born March 31, 1980, in Granite City, Illinois, a son of Gary Ray and Donna Rae (Sanders) Penrod of Granite City.
He was a laborer with the Madison County Highway Department for 11 years. He loved watching football and baseball and was always a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Rams. He cherished his buddy, Jake and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Tyler Penrod of Granite City; a daughter, Jaylee Penrod of Granite City; a brother and sister-in-law, Ryan and Bethany Penrod of Maryland Heights, Missouri; several aunts and uncles; cousins; other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Dolores Sanders and Earl and Wilma Penrod.
In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be held at Central Christian Church, 2020 Johnson Road in Granite City on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until time of a memorial service at 12:00 noon with Pastor Derrell Brame officiating.

John Wayne Kopchak, age 67, of Granite City, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 27th at Creve Coeur Manor in Creve Coeur, MO.
He was born on January 20th, 1957, in Granite City and was the son of the late John Jr. and Shirley (nee: Vaughn) Kopchak.
A 1975 graduate of Granite City High School, he went on to spend many years drafting and detailing for Ambassador Steel (previously Rebar Specialists).
Wayne was known for his ability to make friends wherever he went and enjoyed drumming, golfing, and vacationing with his wife.
Surviving are his wife, Monica A. (nee: Meszaros) Kopchak, whom he married on March 31st, 1990; son, Adam (Alexandra) Kopchak; granddaughter, Marceline Kopchak; many brothers-in-law and sister-in-law; as well as other extended family and friends.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 11th, 2024, at Sunset Hill Funeral Home in Glen Carbon, IL.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 p.m. immediately following the Visitation.

Mary “JoAnn” Starling (Kries), 87, of Collinsville, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, in St. Peters, Missouri. She was born March 27, 1937, in Granite City, Illinois, to the late Joseph David and Mary Nancy (Wade) Kries.
On September 15, 1956, JoAnn married her soulmate, Raymond E. Starling, in Granite City, Illinois. Their union was blessed with three wonderful children, and they shared 67 years of love and companionship.
A devoted parishioner of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville, Illinois, JoAnn dedicated her time, working at the St. John Neumann Cafeteria and providing linen services for the parish. She enjoyed spending her time shopping. JoAnn treasured the company of her husband, family, and friends. She especially enjoyed reuniting with her Granite City High School Class of 1955 classmates, often hosting their annual Christmas gatherings and other social events. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. JoAnn will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her legacy of love, compassion, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Raymond E. Starling; her brother, Roland Kries; her sister-in-law, Doris “Tootie” Shup; and her brother-in-law, William “Bill” Starling.

Clarence Leroy Gibson, 79, of Granite City, IL passed away Friday, September 27, 2024 at Stearns Nursing Home in Granite City, IL.
He was born to the late Clarence E. Gibson, Sr and Dorothy (Bourlend) Gibson on January 4, 1945 in Yuma, AZ. He met Laura Lee and they were married on January 27, 1967 in Madison, IL.
Clarence lived by the motto “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. He loved to pick up furniture from road sides and sales to refurbish it; he kept everybody stocked on anything they would need for their home. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors and with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Laura Gibson; 2 sons: Gary Gibson, Randy (Cheyenne) Gibson; a granddaughter: Chelsey Gibson; great grandson: Taten Gibson; and a brother: Richard (Brenda) Gibson;
Besides his parents, Clarence is preceded in death by 3 brothers: Jerry Gibson, Kenny Gibson, Clarence E. Gibson, Jr; and 2 sisters: Shirley Causey and Faye Flaugher.

Jerry B. Buchanan, 85, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 26, 2024. Born on August 8, 1939, in Leachville, Arkansas, he was the cherished son of the late Elmer “Eldo” and Maudie Mae (Hopper) Buchanan.
On August 19, 1961, Jerry married the love of his life, Georgia Lee (Curtis) Buchanan, in Kennett, Missouri. Together, they were blessed with two wonderful children, whom they raised in Granite City.
Jerry attended Harvest Community Church in Pontoon Beach, Illinois. He retired after many dedicated years at American Steel in Granite City. Known as a shade tree mechanic and a jack of all trades, Jerry had an incredible talent for fixing and building anything. He even constructed the family home, always ensuring his loved ones were well taken care of. Jerry’s greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren. He immersed himself in their hobbies and interests, always eager to learn about their sports and activities. With a Dr. Pepper in hand, he made sure his grandkids were never without a snack. Jerry’s selflessness, humility, and kindness were evident to all who knew him. His sense of humor was the hallmark of a life well-lived. He was a classic car enthusiast. When he wasn’t in the garage restoring or fixing a car, he was often found with a car book in hand or enjoying a car show on TV. Jerry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. His legacy of compassion, dedication, and love will continue to inspire and guide his family for generations to come.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Georgia Lee (Curtis) Buchanan, on June 8, 2024; his siblings, Lucille Wilson, Maxine Hopkins, Bertha Coxsey, Elsie Benedict, Alberta “Birdie” Mitchum, Elmer Buchanan, and Margaret Graham.

Raymond Preston Kidwell Sr., 94, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 11:23 a.m. Thurs. Sept. 26, 2024 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City with his family by his side.
He was born Aug. 10, 1930 in Sulphur Rock, AR to the late Luther P. and Lilly (Tharp) Kidwell.
He and Virginia Ellen Tosh were married in Spring Mill, AR on Dec. 31, 1952. She preceded him in death June 25, 2015.
The U.S. Army Korean war veteran retired from McDonnell-Douglas as a machinist after more than 30 years of service. He was a member of AmVets #51 and loved to go to “the boat” to gamble.
He is survived by a daughter: Phyllis (Randy) Higgins of Granite City; a son: Raymond (Mae) Kidwell Jr. of Maryville, IL; 6 grandchildren: Shawn Gooch, Amy Pittman, Joe Higgins, Beth Levy, Kelly McPeak and Raelynn Kidwell; 11 great-grandchildren: Kristin, Will, Jack, Deanne, Maddy, Morgan, McKenzie, Ally, Noah, Emmy and Kaylee; and a sister: Bertie Whiteside of Batesville, AR.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Virgie Staggs.
Ray and his wife will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with military honors at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Edward Joseph Plese, age 97, passed away peacefully, leaving behind many fond memories. Born in Granite City, Illinois, Ed lived a long and fulfilling life. He proudly served his country during World War II, in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged at the end of the war.
A lover of nature and the outdoors, Ed found joy in the beauty of trees, flowers, and birds. His deep affection for animals, especially dogs, was well-known among those close to him.
After retiring from Boeing Aircraft Company in St. Louis, Missouri, Ed became an avid stock market enthusiast, dedicating himself to monitoring the market daily. He also treasured the time spent on his boat at Lake Ozarks with his beloved wife, Marie. In 2021, Ed moved to Florida, where he embraced the warmth, sunshine, and the ocean he came to adore.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Marie, who passed away in 2014. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Plese & husband, Jim, of Daytona Beach, Florida, and his son, Richard Plese (Gennifer Gilbert) of Tarpon Springs, Florida; as well as his grandson, Christopher Plese.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, in Granite City, Illinois, on Monday, October 14, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., with private burial services to follow.

Marilyn Kay Chrusciel, 69, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024.
She was born July 16, 1955, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Roger C. and Edna Lee “Momo” (Shanklin) Stagner.
Marilyn retired from the Granite City School District after over 20 years of dedicated service as a secretary. She loved spending days at the beach and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by her former husband and friend, Billy Chrusciel of Granite City; a daughter, Brianna J. Lang of Crestwood, Missouri; step-daughter, Nikki Bernaix of Granite City; grandchildren, Gavyn Chrusciel, Talyn Quinn and Grant Lang; step-grandchildren, Ian Narvaez and Dax Bernaix; two brothers and sister-in-law,, Roger Stagner of Sarasota, Florida and Ron and Carol Stagner of Lenexa, Kansas; brother-in-law, Chris Dowd of Overland Park, Kansas; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Alyssa Chrusciel; a sister, Marsha Dowd and a sister-in-law, Tricia Stagner.

Jacqueline “Jacque” Leilani Arnold, 68, of Pontoon Beach, IL passed away at 1056 p.m. Thurs. Sept. 26, 2024 at her home surrounded by family.
She was born July 28, 1956 in St. Louis, MO to the late Joseph J. and Cecilia (Alidon) Pingel.
On Apr. 3, 1976, she and Louis P. Arnold were married in Belleville, IL. He survives.
Jacque was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and before her stroke, had been a creative artist, crafter and seamstress. She was known as quite a chef and baker to her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter: Monique Romeo of Alton, IL; 2 sons: Louis P. “Louie” Arnold IV of Rushville, IL and Philípe Arnold of Pontoon Beach; 3 grandchildren: Kalani Pingel, Cody Pingel and Reshelle Arnold; 4 great-grandchildren: Alayia Pingel, Dawson Pingel, , Nick Roberst and Harley Judemann; a brother: Walter Pingel of Troy, IL; and 4 sisters: Joetta Pingel of St. Louis, Jocelyn Harper of Granite City, Jamie Wilhelmy of Granite City and Jenise Wilson of Collinsville, IL.

Lisa Kay Schoellman (Conner), 54, of Granite City, IL passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, IL.
She was born to the late Larry Conner and Junelda (Klutts) Grantham on August 28, 1970 in Granite City, IL. Lisa had many hobbies including diamond painting, miniature building and playing Bunko; but her favorite way to spend her time was with her Fiancé of 13 years, Scott Poole and her family. Lisa was a loving and giving woman who made everybody feel welcomed and appreciated.

Janet Faye (Ridings) Davis, 87, of Collinsville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Born on August 13, 1937, in Granite City, Illinois, she was the cherished daughter of the late Preston and Villa Mae (Stearns) Ridings. On April 27, 1956, Janet married Harold W Davis of Granite City, and the two were married for 64 years, until Harold’s passing in 2020.
Janet was a devoted and lifelong member of the Nameoki United Methodist Church in Granite City, Illinois. She was also active in and contributed to many groups and organizations within the Granite City community throughout her life, including groups like the Order of the Eastern Star, and especially with her beloved high school friends in Club 55. Janet and Harold were also long-time members of the Hoedowners Square Dancing Club, dancing for several decades all over the Midwest. Janet’s passions, outside of spending time with her family, extended to sewing and traveling, as she and Harold took numerous trips to see most of the US and even abroad, as well as countless trips to Southern Missouri to Lake of the Ozarks and Table Rock Lake. Cynthia Ann “Cindy” Corzine, 70, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 12:35 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
She was born December 24, 1953, in San Diego, California, a daughter of the late Bobbie and Geraldine (Heuermann) Corzine.
Cindy retired in April 2018 as a dispatcher with the Bridgeton, Missouri Police Department after over 40 years of dedicated service in law enforcement.
She was a faithful member of Unity Baptist Church in Granite City. She enjoyed her days of crafting, making cards and was a fan of The Beatles and had a love for animals. She cherished her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren and enjoyed family gatherings.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Pastor Jarad and Sarah Corzine of Granite City; three grandchildren, Reed, Blane and Emery Corzine of Granite City; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Bob Corzine of St. Clair, Missouri and Kirk and Jennifer Corzine of Indianapolis, Indiana; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles “Corky” Corzine.

Brenda Rae Howie (Jolly), and as known to many as “Maga”, passed away in her Granite City, IL home on Monday, September 23, 2024 at the age of 76.
She was born to the late Raymond and Emma “Kathy” (Agers) Jolly on July 3, 1948 in St. Louis, MO.
Brenda was a beloved member of the Word of Life Tabernacle Church in Granite City and very active in her community. She adored spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was the first to volunteer her delicious cooking at family and church functions. Brenda was described as a mother to all as she never met a stranger and often put her own needs aside to help another. She spent many weekends playing Bingo at the KC Hall; the purple dauber was her favorite. And she carried a guardian angel keychain for good luck.
Brenda is survived by a son: Terry (& Candice) Howie; 7 grandchildren: Dakoda (& Heather) Middleton, Gavin Jolly (& Ilaina Novacich), Zachary Jolly, Emalee Jolly, Mikayla Jolly, Josh Jolly, and Emma Jolly; 4 great grandchildren: Mia Middleton, Cameron Middleton, Benson Jolly, Asher Jolly; a brother: James (& Diane) Jolly; 2 sisters: Joyce Jolly and Jewel Jolly; a sister-in-law: Jane Jolly; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Leland Samuel Avants II, age 45, of St. Louis, MO, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at his home. Leland was born on December 18, 1978, in Granite City, IL, the son of Leland and Janis (Askins) Avants of Granite City, IL.
Leland will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle and a dear friend to many. Leland never met a stranger, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
He was an avid Star Trek fan, and he enjoyed collecting Star Trek memorabilia. Leland was a accomplished musician who loved playing Gospel Music on his piano. Leland worked as a manager for Jiffy Lube in St. Louis, MO., and he treated his employees like family. Leland will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Keith Edward Smith, 61, of Granite City, IL, passed away Mon. Sept. 23, 2024 at his home.
He was born Aug. 9, 1963 in St. Louis, MO to Charles Edward “Ed” Smith and the late Donna Earlene (Laswell) Smith.
Keith was a carpenter and cabinet maker and had owned ABK Construction. He loved to remodel and go fishing in his spare time. Keith was also a talented artist and pencil sketches were his favorite.
In addition to his father, he is survived by 2 sons: Todd E. Smith and Brian Smith; 4 siblings: Donna Christine (Paul) Nash, Charles Andrew “Andy” (Vickie) Smith of Chipley, FL, Jennifer Earlene (Don) Rick and Connie Edwina (Chris Noud) Poston; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private celebration of Keith’s life.

Wanda Eunice Myers, 91, of Granite City, IL died on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Stearns Nursing & Rehab Center in Granite City, IL.
She was born on December 24, 1932 in Laurel, MS to Will and Marie Clingon.
Wanda married James Edward Myers in Newport News, VA on September 8, 1950. He preceded her in death on April 10, 2013.
The loving mother and grandmother was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Granite City, IL. She enjoyed cake decorating, flower arranging and she learned to play the piano in her later years.
Wanda is survived by a daughter, Debra Yates of Licking, MO; 2 sons: Byron (Lisa) Myers of Peoria, IL and James Paul (Barbara Ann) Myers of Granite City; 5 grandchildren: Crystal Morgan, April Morgan, Josh Sartin, Michael Myers and Matthew Myers; several grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

The loving mother, daughter and grandmother enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and memorabilia collector.

Scott Wayne Grote, age 57, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Scott was born on March 11, 1967, in Granite City, IL.
On June 30, 1990, Scott married Laura Chenault, the love of his life in Granite City, IL. Scott was a faithful member of First United Presbyterian Church in Granite City, IL.
He had an amazing voice, and he sang in the church choir and the community choir in Granite City. He was also a member of Granite City Elks Lodge # 1063.
Scott had worked for Siemens Medical and Granite City Steel for over thirty years. Scott loved all sports, and he excelled at soccer and in high school his team won the state championship for GCHS. He also played soccer in college for Western Illinois University. Scott passed down his love of soccer to his sons and he loved coaching them throughout the seasons they played. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, whom he loved dearly. Scott never met a stranger, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Scott was preceded in death by his father, Norman Grote, stepfather, Eldon Marti, and by his father-in-law, Dennis Chenault.

Philbert “Phil” R. Smiddy, 86, of Granite City, IL, formally of Republic, MO, died on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, IL.
He was born on April 9, 1938 in Anna, IL to Charles Dewey Smiddy and Mary Isabelle (Miller) Smiddy.
Phil was an avid outdoorsman. He belonged to numerous state and national gun clubs. Phil enjoyed skeet shooting winning numerous awards. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Phil was a volunteer with the Missouri Dept of Conservation, and he taught gun safety classes.
The loving father and grandfather is survived by 2 daughters: Shelly (Jerry) Halbrook of Granite City and Christine Smiddy of Bedford, TX; 2 sons: Mark (Janet) Smiddy of Granite City and Greg (Debbie) Smiddy of Scottsville, KY; 7 grandchildren: Stephanie (Jonathon) Burnett, Jennifer (Shawn) O’Dell, Ehrich (MacKenzie) Smiddy, Karree (Jason) Hughes, Evan Smiddy, Christopher (Megan) Halbrook and Brett (Taylor) Halbrook; 9 great grandchildren; a brother, Mike Smiddy of OH and a sister, Anita Bonser of TX.

Michael Dennis “Denny” Mitchell, age 74, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at his home. Denny was born on January 21, 1950, in Granite City, IL, a son of the late Odis Mitchell Jr., and Ilene (McIntosh) Dortch.
On June 7, 1969, Denny married Doris Pritchett, the love of his life at St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City, IL.
Denny was a United States Army Reserves veteran who proudly served his country. He retired from Granite City Steel / U.S. Steel in 2012, as a railroad yard manager after forty-two years of dedicated service.
In his spare time, Denny enjoyed working in his yard and traveling. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Terry Dean Barron, 77, passed from his earthly life into everlasting life and went to be with the Lord at 3:56 am on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Christian Northeast Hospital.
He was born on May 6, 1947, in Mitchell, Missouri, the son of the late Harold and Velma (Brewer – Penberthy) Barron.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, the former Marcia Barnett whom he married on September 27, 1969, at the 1st Church of the Nazarene in Granite City, Illinois.
Other surviving family members include a son and daughter-in-law: Brett and Renee’ Barron of Granite City, a daughter and son-in-law: Laurie and William Schneck of Greenville, Illinois, five grandchildren: Matilynn Barron, Caeden Barron, Laraeli Barron, William (Will) Schneck, Maelynn Schneck, a sister and brother-in-law: Marie Ellen and David Martin of Belleville, Illinois, a brother: Glen Penberthy, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Leslie and Richard Price of Granite City, many nieces, nephews, and other beloved extended family and friends.
When Terry (alias Paw-T, aka TT) wasn’t cooking for family gatherings or attending grandkids ball games, he enjoyed game nights with family and friends. You could always count on him to have a quick-witted joke or remark that would light up the room.
He and his wife Marcia are members of First Baptist Church Maryville, where they spent their time on Sunday with their Bible Study group. Terry loved serving at Awana with the children on Wednesday nights, and always made it a priority to host weekly meetings for family prayer in the “God Room” at his home.
He never forgot to remind those around him, “God’s got this, we just need to stay out of His way.” He came to know that statement in the most beautifully complete way, as he finally saw Jesus face to face and received his complete healing on Friday.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Gary Barron & Lester Penberthy, his father in law: Durrell Barnett, and his mother in law: Mary Sue Barnett.

Tony A. Turner, 64, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
He was born December 26, 1959, in Granite City, a son of the late Marion “Bud” and Geneva (Cradduck) Turner.
He married Rhonda S. (Andrews) Turner on March 14, 2003, in Edwardsville and had 36 years of memories together.
Tony was a painter with Mark Andy Painting in Chesterfield, Missouri. He enjoyed his days of camping, had a love for music and cherished his animals

Amerik A. “Rick” Kachigian, 91, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at de Greeff Hospice House in St. Louis, Missouri. Born February 23, 1933, in Granite City, Illinois, he was the cherished son of the late Aslan and Helen (Malkoonian) Kachigian.
Rick was a faithful and devoted member of St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Apostolic Church, in Granite City, Illinois. He was an attorney and operated his own law firm for over 50 years in his hometown.
He and his family also owned and operated the Snack Shack and Tony’s restaurants in Granite City. He was an avid opera singer, and his distinctive baritone voice filled churches and stages throughout the metropolitan St. Louis area.
Regularly appearing in community theatre productions, Rick spent ten consecutive years in the local productions of the “Christmas Carol”. He was on several game shows and won “The Big Payoff” in 1960. He and his family were on the “Family Feud” with Richard Dawson. Rick was a beloved husband, adoring father, and doting grandfather. His memory of dedication, honor and love will be carried on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 57 years, Nuvart (Donikian) Kachigian.

Shirley was a devoted member of Bethel Chapel Pentecostal Church in Granite City, where her faith and dedication were evident to all who knew her. Shirley had a sharp mind and enjoyed challenging herself with crossword puzzles.
She also loved staying connected with family and friends through Facebook, delighting in their photos and updates. Her love for the outdoors was evident in her fondness for camping and spending time in nature.
A talented cook, Shirley’s kitchen was always filled with the aroma of delicious meals, and she took great joy in ensuring her guests left with full stomachs and warm hearts. Her memory will forever shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved and cherished her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Edward Massey; her three sisters; and two brothers.

Gene Arlin Mathias, 89, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 7:50 a.m. Fri. Sept. 13, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Mar. 12, 1935 in Marion, IN to the late John Mathias and Lillian (Clelland) Mathias Owens. On Sept. 16, 1989, he and Carol Lee Moore were married in Granite City. She survives.
Gene was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1953 to 1959. He then worked for and retired from Bi-State Development after serving more than 27 years in the maintenance department. He also was a groundskeeper at the Landing in St. Louis. Gene loved old time country and bluegrass music and played the guitar.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 daughters: Judy Mathias Gibbs of Granite City, Shirley Mathias of Gladewater, TX and Linda Kerr of Bunker Hill, IL; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother: Alfred Mathias of Marion, IN; and 2 sisters: Dixie (Russell) Hutchinson and Susie Donaldson, also of IN.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sons: Robert “Bobby Gene” Mathias and Thomas Clements; a brother: Allen Mathias; and a sister: Shirley Myers.

Robert Douglas “Rob” Wallace, 48, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away tragically on Monday, September 9, 2024. Born on December 4, 1975, in Granite City, he was the cherished son of Timothy and Deborah (Hale) Wallace, Sr.
Rob dedicated over a decade of his career to Healthcare IT at Precision Practice Management. A true sports enthusiast, he loved watching football, basketball, and soccer, and every Sunday, he could be found cheering for his beloved Chicago Bears.
Rob was also a Civil War buff with a deep appreciation for history. Known for his sense of humor and good nature, Rob delighted friends and family with his goofy impersonations of Christopher Walken and Sean Connery.
He was a connoisseur of fountain sodas, always knowing where to find the best Dr. Pepper. Above all, Rob’s life revolved around his family. Joseph Thomas Judd, Sr, 72, of Granite City, IL passed away in his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
Joe was born to the late Walter and Concettina (Demarco) Judd on June 4, 1952 in Madison, IL. Joe worked as a steel worker and retired from American Steel after 34 years.
Joe spent his time fishing, watching wrestling with his baby brother Pat, and playing the lottery; but his favorite thing to do was spend time with his family.
He was a loveable man who never met a stranger. He told it like it is! His ultimate wish was for his family and friends to stay safe and sound. He was super proud of his toy poodle, Half Pint, she was treated like the “Queen Bitch” she was. Any moment he could talk to his grandkids, kids, or Shirley he would have the biggest shit eating grin on his face! Although, when he was watching wrestling you had to be quiet because you could hear it next door; and he wouldn’t let you forget to pick up a lottery ticket for him while you were out.
Joe is survived by his daughter: Elizabeth (Dustin) Tinnon; son: Joseph Judd, Jr; 3 grandchildren: Damon Tubbs, Kierstein Tubbs and Schylar (Skyfi) Tubbs; 12 great grandchildren; His former wife and friend; Shirley Judd; 2 brothers, 2 sisters and many nephews and nieces.

Mildred S. Noeth, 93, of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Eden Village in Glen Carbon, IL. She was born July 19, 1931, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Michael and Julia Caroline (Gonsey) Papp.
She married James Eugene Noeth on November 29, 1952, at the former St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granite City. He passed away on June 15, 2010. Mildred served as a substitute teacher for many years with the Granite City School District. She was a longtime and faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City.
Mildred was a former member of the Knights of Columbus Women’s Auxiliary, Red Hat Ladies, and the Granite City Elkette’s.
She enjoyed her days with gardening, crossword puzzles, and needlepoint work. She was a strong woman – strong in life, strong in faith and strong in her love of family. One of her favorite things in life was spending time with family, whether at a large reunion, a holiday celebration, visits with her kids or just having a niece or nephew stop in for a visit. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with family and friends.
Mildred is survived by three children and their spouses, Elaine and Bruce McInally of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Jerry and Lisa Noeth of Loudon, Tennessee and Janice and Mike Fernandez of Collinsville, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Pattie Noeth of Granite City, Illinois; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa Brunelli, Laura and Kyle Blank, James and Nicole Clutts, Christina and Matt Bennett, Justin Noeth, Alyssa Noeth, Kim and Justin Hongisto, Jared Fernandez and Jordan Fernandez; eight great grandchildren, Ben, Trenton, Brynleigh, Magen, Micah, Luke, Logan and Aliah; brother, Michael Papp of Nalcrest, Florida; sister-in-law, Dorothy Scheibol of Godfrey, Illinois; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

Cheri Pinkerton, 79, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at University Care Center in Edwardsville.
Cheri was born March 1, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri. She worked as a Pharmacy Technician at Barnes hospital, where she compounded intravenous solutions until she retired in 2010.
She loved the outdoors, especially picnics and camping. Cheri enjoyed taking the road less traveled and the Smokey Mountains were a favorite destination. She loved animals great and small but closest to her heart were horses.
Cheri was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Mary Lou, and her brothers, Mark and Mickey. She is and will be missed by her loving husband John of 57 years, their three children, Tom (Hollie), Ann (Salvador), and Mary. Sabrina Ann Warden, 43, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 6:08 p.m. Tues. Sept. 10, 2024 at her home.
She was born Sept. 4, 1981 in Granite City to the late Ronald Warden and Velinda Valenzuela.
Sabrina loved to be with her family and friends. She was the sweetest, kindest person in the world and she will continue to live on through others by her gift of tissue and organ donation.

Martha Grace Castellini, 86, of Madison, IL, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Tues. Sept. 10, 2024 at Evercare of Edwardsville in Edwardsville, IL.
She was born Oct. 28, 1937 in Peoria, IL to the late Frank Karl and Elsie Altman (Buchanan) Ensor.
On Oct. 19, 1973, she and Merton Eugene Castellini Jr. were married in Peoria. He preceded her in death June 10, 2010.
Martha had been a receptionist until she became a mother. She had been a member of the Granite City Women of the Moose. She loved bingo and had also been a member of the Pottymouth C.B. club and her handle was “Hillbilly Gal”.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Merle “Butch” (Patti) Castellini of St. Louis, MO; 2 daughters: Angela Castellini of Madison, IL and Martha Grace Wood of MI; numerous grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a few great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son: Eddie Turner; a brother: Frank Ronald Ensor; and 2 sisters: Karlene Grubbs and Marian Dunning.

Jamie L. Shupp, 44, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 5:12 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
She was born April 28, 1980, in Berrien Center, Michigan, a daughter of the late Ricky James Fleck and Tamara (Vail) Biggs.
She married Brian A. Shupp on August 2, 2007, in Lemoore, California and he survives.
Jamie proudly served her country with the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge due to a service-connected disability.
She attended college to pursuing a career in cosmetology. She was a member of the Collinsville Kahokian VFW Post 5691 and was a supporter of animal rescues.

Timothy Michael Huffman, 62, of Granite City, IL passed away Friday, September 6, 2024.
He was born to the late Samuel and Althea (Hendricks) Huffman on March 10, 1962 in Flint MI.
Timothy served in Operation Desert Storm. It was his honor to serve his Country in the United States Marine Corps on active duty for 22 years.
He was an active member and volunteered at the First Baptist Church of Maryville. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, golf and being a handyman and carpenter.
Timothy is survived by his Fiancé Michele Mraz; a son: Tyler Huffman; a daughter: Mackenzie Huffman; 3 brothers: Ronald (Rhonda) Huffman, Thomas (Denise) Huffman, Kenneth (Shelly) Huffman; 2 sisters Deborah Kirby, Cynthia (Martin) Haugh; and many nephews, nieces and great nieces and nephews.

Mary Ellen McElroy, 82, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Cedarhurst Memory Care in Granite City.
She was born October 24, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late John Allen and Dorothy M. (Hudgins) McElroy.
She had worked for Biomerieux Vitek Inc. as an accountant for nine years. She was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City. She enjoyed working with crafts, genealogy, shopping and holiday baking and making candies. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by a brother, Robert Allen McElroy of Granite City; a sister, Martha “Marty” Jarnagin of Granite City; nieces and nephews, Rebecca, Angela, Nathan and Michael; great nieces; great nephews; other extended family and friends.

Royce “Mick” Michael Hutchins, 80, of Granite City, IL passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at his home holding the hands of his granddaughter, daughter and son in law.
Royce was born in Granite City, IL on October 13, 1943 to LeRoy Isaac and Elva Mirle Hutchins.
He married the love of his life, Gail Marie Stewart in Granite City, IL on February 8, 1963. She preceded him in death on September 29, 2022.
Royce was a boiler operator among many other professions for A.D.M. where he retired after 20 plus years of service.
Royce received a certificate to be an ordained minister of the strong Pentecostal religion. He believed in faith, healing and devine intervention.
As a child his faith helped him overcome the polio disease. He had his hands to the sky praising God until the moment he passed away.
In his spare time, he loved reading a variety of books, studying the Holy Bible, telling the best jokes, playing his guitar, singing hymns with his wife, camping and making memories with his family.
The loving father and grandfather is survived by a daughter, Esther Charlene & James Childers of Granite City; 3 sons: Michael Eugene Hutchins & (the late Rebecca Hutchins) of Granite City, Daniel Paul & Christina Hutchins of NY and Mark Wayne & Jenny Hutchins of AR; many grandchildren that he adored: Michael & Tiffany Jensen, David & Hope Hutchins, Melissa & Colt Gross, Johnathan & Kim Hutchins, Jessica Jensen & William Burney, Josh & Kristen Hutchins, Jake & Randy Jensen, Caleb Hutchins, Chris McIntyre and Elizabeth Hutchins; several great grandchildren that kept him young: Isabella Burney, Talon Burney, Austin “AJ” Cook, Nykolas Cook, Savannah Cook, Isaac Jensen, Benjamin Royce Jensen, Mikie Jensen IV, Daniel Jensen, Max Hutchins, Alaina Hutchins and Cami Hutchins. William Howard “Bill” Snider, 63, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 11:29 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at SSM DePaul Hospital in Bridgeton, Missouri.
He was born May 13, 1961, in Granite City, a son of the late Gerald and Linda (Ogden) Snider.
He married the love of his life, Patricia Ann (Youngman) Snider on February 7, 1981, in St. Louis, Missouri and she survives.
Bill was employed at SSM DePaul Hospital with over 15 years of dedicated service as a power plant engineer.
He enjoyed attending Calvary Life Church in Granite City and cherished spending time with his family. He enjoyed building things and tinkering and always loved a day of fishing and hunting.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Jessica and Lonnie Slone of Waycross, Georgia and Julie Snider of Granite City, Illinois; two grandchildren, Angel and Taylor Williams of Oklahoma and Adam Slone of Georgia; four siblings and their spouses, Susie and Mike Davis of Illinois, Frank and Sue Snider of Missouri, Linde and Barry Bushong of Missouri and Sam and Tracy Snider of Illinois; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.

Myra Lorraine Cook (née Willaredt), aged 81, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois.
Born on June 12, 1943, in Granite City, she was the cherished daughter of the late Raymond and Marion (Hildinger) Willaredt.
Myra was a devoted and faithful member of St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City, where she once lent her beautiful voice to the choir.
Her professional life was marked by over 30 years of dedicated service in the finance department at US Steel.
An avid reader and talented needlepoint artist, Myra found joy in creating intricate and beautiful designs. She was also a passionate supporter of her hometown St. Louis Cardinals, never missing a chance to watch or listen to their games. Above all, Myra’s greatest joy was her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Her love and dedication to her family were the most important chapters of her life, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Myra’s legacy of love, kindness, and creativity will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

Dennis Alan Greene, 64, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 7:53 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was born December 29, 1959, in Granite City, Illinois, a son of the late Henry C. and Dorothy (Woodsworth) Greene. Dennis was an arborist with Ray’s Tree Service and was a member of the International Society of Arboriculture.
Dennis had a love for rock music and was a talented drummer and musician throughout his life. He also enjoyed hot rod cars, drag racing and his days of hunting.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jason and Cynthia Greene of Granite City and Jarrett Greene of Granite City; four grandchildren, Makenna, Penny, Tucker and Gunner; his former wife and friend, Tina Greene of Granite City; two sisters, Linda Denny of Lake St. Louis, Missouri and Kathy Crocker of Granite City; several nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends. Thomas Charles Groshong, 63, of St. Louis, Missouri passed away at 6:37 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at his home.
He was born April 24, 1961, in Granite City, Illinois, a son of Marion Bruce and Mary Kathryn (Myers) Groshong of Granite City.
Tom attended Granite City public schools. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as a security specialist.
Tom loved people and never met a stranger. He lived in Colorado for a number of years. Tom worked for Southwest Auto Parts in St. Louis for several years until he retired with disability.
He had also worked in construction, warehousing and security and loved riding and working on motorcycles. He also enjoyed spending time visiting Kampsville.
In addition to his beloved parents, he is survived by his life partner of 15 years, Patricia O’Conner of St. Louis; a brother and sister-in-law, Bruce Marion and Laurie Groshong of Rydell, Georgia; a niece, Courtney Barrett of Dayton, Ohio; aunt, Jane Ann Vanesler of Collinsville; cousins, Dave and Michelle Seilheimer of Edwardsville, Susan Brennan of Huntington Beach, California and Michael and Samantha Vanesler of Granite City; other extended family and friends.

Harry H. Hagopian, 94, of Granite City, IL died on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Cedarhurst Care Center in Granite City, IL.
He was born on March 4, 1930 in Granite City, IL to Malek and Agavni (Moradian) Hagopian. He spent most of his early years in Lincoln Place.
Harry married the love of his life, Emilie Wood in Granite City, IL on October 23, 1954. She preceded him in death on February 26, 2005. The happy couple moved to Granite City and they had four sons.
The U.S. Army Korean War Veteran was an attorney. He was an active member of Calvary Life Church in Granite City, IL. As a teenager he became a Christian and as an adult taught bible study for over 25 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting rabbits. Harry passed the bar exam and became an attorney for Centene Bank. He retired in 1979.
The loving father and grandfather is survived by 2 sons: David (Cheryl) Hagopian of Granite City and Gary (Allison) Hagopian of Milstadt, IL; a grandson, Wayne (Courtney) Hagopian and a very special nephew, Kevin (Toni) Link of Granite City.
Besides his wife and parents, Harry is preceded in death by 2 sons: Daniel Hagopian and John Hagopian; a sister, Lucy Link.

Joshua Anthony “Nomad Thunder” Link, 24, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024. Born on June 10, 2000, in Maryville, Illinois, he was the cherished son of Kevin G. and Toni M. (Centrino) Link.
Joshua worked as a custodian for many years at St. John Lutheran Church in Granite City, Illinois. He was passionate about video game modding, particularly for games like Minecraft and Halo, and his innovative mods gained recognition on YouTube and in gaming publications.
His life’s work was the creation of a virtual game called “Paradise,” which guided users on spiritual quests. An avid collector, he had a unique appreciation for candles, furniture, and Uno cards. He expressed his creativity through painting and other artistic endeavors. He had a deep love for his cat, Thundie, and his pet mice. Joshua was a loving son and brother, whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on through the love and creativity he shared with the world.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Anthony and Evelyn (Benson) Centerino; his paternal grandparents, Richard and Lucy (Hogopian) Link; and his aunt, Barb Hickman.

Karen Ann Melton, 78, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 9:12 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at her home with family at her side.
She was born June 4, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late George and Lynn (Hunt) Hollocher.
She married the love of her life, Edward “Dewey” Melton on October 27, 1964, in Clayton, Missouri and he survives.
Karen retired from the Granite City Assessor’s office after many years of dedicated service as a clerk. She had also worked as a real estate agent through the years. She was a faithful member of Unity Baptist Church and had served as a Sunday school teacher. Karen loved her days of volunteering for many activities and organizations and enjoyed her children’s school days serving as president of the PTA and assisting with the many school activities. She was very proud to read to children with the Granite City School District literacy program, loved going to Panama City, Florida to enjoy the beach and ocean and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. She also enjoyed working with crafts, sewing, cooking and tending to her family and home.
Her life was filled with overflowing love and unbelievable generosity to all always giving of her time, money and love. Karen was a devoted and loving wife, mom and grandma. She cherished her family and loved her children and was so proud to have nine granddaughters and will be remembered for the love and special times they shared.
In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by four children and spouses, Cindy Melton of San Antonio, Texas, Ed and Alice Melton of Memphis, Tennessee, Laurie and Glen Ahlers of Glen Carbon and Kristi and Josh Hickam of Granite City; nine granddaughters, Taylor, Rian, Casey, Lindsay, Brenna, Rylie, Alayna, Maggie and Kori; a brother, Mark Hollocher of St. Charles, Missouri; a sister, Patricia Gibbs of Fairway, Kansas; niece, Kelley Schaub of St. Charles, Missouri; other extended family and friends.
In celebration of her life, a visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, with Pastor Jarad Corzine officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.

Thomas J. Belusko, 66, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 11:17 p.m. Tues. Sept. 3, 2024 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
He was born Dec. 14, 1957 in East St. Louis, IL a son of the late John J. and Victoria J. (Fornaszewski) Belusko.
On Aug. 1, 1998, he and Sandra “Sandy” J. Burns were married in Granite City. She survives.
Tom worked for Granite City Steel from 1975 until his retirement from US Steel. He was a lifetime member of SOAR – Steelworks Organization of Active Retirees, the Alton Chapter of Harley Owners Group “H.O.G” and the AMA – American Motorcycle Association. He had also been a member of A.B.A.T.E – A Brotherhood Aimed Toward Education. He enjoyed riding and building bikes as well as making beer and barbecuing. He could be seen at Homecoming parades in his homemade hand car. Tom was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife Sandy, he is survived by his beloved dogs: Bubba and Sophie and many many friends, too numerous to acknowledge them all.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Sat. Oct. 19, 2024 at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL. For those who wish to be a part of the funeral procession to the cemetery, please gather at the funeral home between 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sat. Oct. 19, 2024. The procession will leave the funeral home no later than 10:45 a.m. Following the graveside services, everyone will gather for a meal at Pizza World in Granite City.

Danny Ray Pruett Sr., 69, of South Roxana, Illinois passed away at 2:13 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois.
He was born March 26, 1955, in Waverly, Tennessee, a son of the late William “Pete” and Katie Bell (Page) Pruett.
Danny had worked for Union Pacific Railroad, Challenge Unlimited and Tower Automotive through the years. He loved his days of fishing and enjoyed junking, always looking for a deal. He cherished his family and will be remembered for the love and special times shared.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Danny Jr. and Beth Pruett of Rosewood Heights, Illinois; a daughter, Shannon Donohue of Granite City; six grandchildren, Paige and JJ, Kaleb, Mallory, Brooke, Genna and Avery; two great grandchildren, Stella and Kiara; two brothers, Gene Pruett and Larry Pruett; a sister, Vickie Fry of Granite City; special friends, Misty and Jason Grether and their family of South Roxana; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Wayne Pruett, Ronnie Pruett, Steve Pruett and Bill Pruett and three sisters, Ellen “Gail” Jacobs, Bonnie Liebold and Betty Atchison.
In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 12:00 noon until time of a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Terry McKenzie officiating.

Sandra Sue Parker, 66, of South Roxana and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 5:27 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at her home.
She was born May 1, 1958, in Granite City, Illinois, a daughter of the late Robert M. Beswick and the late Shirley Delores (Cornstuble) Weston.
Family was of the utmost importance in her life and she cherished the love and special times shared
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always enjoyed family gatherings. She was a fan of watching Gunsmoke and loved all things nature including being in the water and taking in some sun on a beautiful beach.
She is survived by her significant other of 29 years, Robert “Bob” Newman of South Roxana; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robbie Parker of Granite City, Jason and Cat Parker of Wood River and Anthony and Christie Parker of Mitchell; nine grandchildren, Michelle, Tony, Britney, Courtney, Andrew, Bailey, Briley, Payton and Blake; three great grandchildren, Annaleigh, Ariah and RaeRae; a sister, Mona Jennings of Belleville; a brother, Randy Beswick of Belleville; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Debbie Waggoner; a brother, Alan Beswick and a niece, Dawn Fuller.

Marian “Jean” Hileman, 95, of Granite City, Illinois, quietly left her earthly home into the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 2, 2024. She was born March 16, 1929, to the late Curtis and Robbie Donley.
On April 16, 1949, she married Charles E. Hileman in Granite City, where they resided and raised three children. He preceded her in death on January 23, 1987.
As a faithful Christian, Jean was a member of Dewey Avenue United Methodist Church in Granite City almost her entire life, playing piano for many years and singing in the choir. After relocating to Holly Brook in 2021, she attended the First United Methodist Church in Collinsville.
She spent many years as an Executive Secretary and last worked as a typist for Karpowitcz Court Reporting.
With a passion for volunteering, she gave twenty years of service to Gateway Regional Hospital as a “pink lady,” along with twenty years of service at Community Care Center as a volunteer and board member. She was also a past president of DeMolay Mothers. As a longtime member of Church Women United, she received the Valiant Woman Award for her service to the community.
She indulged her passion for reading by serving as President of the Friends of the Library for ten years, as well as helping to organize the annual book sale.
Gardening was another of Jean’s many loves, and you could often find her tending to her roses, well into her eighties. There was nothing like a good book, playing piano, or baking cookies to fill a free afternoon. She was able to enjoy many fabulous travels, including Europe, Ireland, Hawaii, and Alaska. Jean loved to entertain her many friends and, after lunch, would have them over for Dominoes and dessert.
Her children are blessed with many memories of family get-togethers during holidays. She was always up for a mean game of Uno, never sparing anyone from a “Draw Four” card. These times were very precious to her, and she loved Christmas with her family the most.
Surviving to preserve her memory are her sons, Charles E. Hileman, Jr. (Susan), of Collinsville, Illinois, Stephen C. Hileman (Sharon), of Alto, New Mexico, and her daughter, Marsha J. Barton, of Glen Carbon, Illinois; her granddaughters, Laura Wocken (Ben), Sara Richter, Sarah Chamness (Kevin), Shelley Randecker (Brian), Leslie Browning (Tony), and her grandson, Evan Barton (Nana); her seven great grandchildren, and two great-great granddaughters.
Jean had suggested donations to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 4400 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital In lieu of flowers.

Janet Gaye Watson (née Vazis), 76, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, September 1, 2024. Born on May 31, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri, she was the cherished daughter of the late Oscar P. and Opal I. (Snider) Vazis.
Janet was a devoted and active member of Heritage General Baptist Church in Pontoon Beach, Illinois. Her unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she dedicated countless hours to the church’s food pantry and various other church groups.
Janet found joy in the tranquility of nature, especially in watching hummingbirds flutter by. She treasured every moment spent with her family and friends. A loving mother and a doting grandmother, Janet’s legacy of love, compassion, and devotion will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Opal Vazis, and her husband, Gayle Watson.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her son, Harold Cramer, III and his wife, Maya, of Granite City, Illinois; her granddaughter, Sandee Cramer; her brother and sister-in-law; and many other relatives and friends.

David Alan Fitzhugh, 63, of Granite City, IL died on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
He was born on November 24, 1960 in Granite City, IL to J.Y. and Donna (Shelton) Fitzhugh.
David’s passion in life was fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed photographing wildlife. He was very much an outdoors person.
During the 80’s and 90’s, David was dedicated to Korean Karate. He obtained the 2nd degree black belt and won numerous competitions. The loving uncle was known as Uncle Bubba to his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who were his pride and joy. David resided with his sister and often told his friends that he lived with “Sis” so that he could take care of her. David will be remembered for his kind soul and the smile on his face.
David is survived by a sister, Marsha Smith of Granite City; a brother, Bradley (Patricia) Fitzhugh of Knoxville, TN and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Besides his parents, David is preceded in death by 2 brothers: Phillip Fitzhugh and Tommy Fitzhugh and a brother in law, Carl “Eddie” Smith.
