Ralph W. Baker, 84, of Granite City, Illinois passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 29, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on July 11, 1940, in Granite City, Illinois, and was the son of the late, Clyde M. and Rose Virginia (Smith) Baker.

On August 11, 1962, he married the love of his life, Delora C. Gassdorf in Granite City, Illinois and resided in the area for their entire lives.

A faithful servant of the Lord, he attended Unity Baptist Church and participated in weekly breakfast fellowships with the men of the church. His heart always followed God; knowing it was the only way to Heaven’s salvation.

During his lifetime, he had a passion for various organizations, in which he participated and served many roles in each; The Masonic Lodge #877, for over 50 years, both as a Master Mason and Past Master Mason, Tri-City Shrine Club, Scottish Rite, Ainad Shriners, Eastern Star, Old Grad’s Reunions, and the Elks Lodge #1063. He loved people and it seemed he had never met a stranger – wanting to converse with anyone and everyone. Being involved in the community, he was at his finest.

During his life, he occupied employment at various locations; Laclede Steel, A.O. Smith, Granite City Steel, Ainad Temple, and A.G. Edwards; always wanting to ensure his family was taken care of. Aside from other jobs, he was a very talented artist and sign painter. At one point in his life he fulfilled a job, lettering the school buses in the metro area. He never used stencils and painted everything freehand; a perfectionist, to say the least. Never sitting still – always working to provide, while constantly doting and caring for family.

Family held the utmost importance and was the heart of his entire life. Cherishing family get-togethers, reunions, and holidays – just being gathered around family; it filled his heart with pure love, joy, and happiness. When his granddaughters, Jesseca and Leeza came into the world, his heart only expanded more. As children, and as they grew into adults, he remained a “Father-Figure” just as he had been a father to his own daughters. He never hesitated to give the best advice or opinions to help them learn from his own life’s lessons, wanting nothing but the best for their future.

He will be missed immensely by family and so many wonderful friends. The man that we knew him as, will always hold cherished memories in our hearts with the gifts of his love and heartwarming friendships.

Lowell Louis “Joe” Pearman, Jr., of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, August 1, 2024. Born on November 9, 1947, in Cairo, Illinois, Joe was the cherished son of the late Lowell L. Pearman, Sr. and Charlene F. (McGinness) Pearman.

Joe was a machinist by trade and started a remarkable career at Olin Brass, beginning in a humble janitorial role and culminating in his esteemed position as Superintendent of the brass department, marking 42 years of unwavering dedication and service. His faith journey commenced at City Temple Church in Granite City, where he found his calling in the church’s food pantry ministry, transforming it into a vital and well-organized community service.

In recent years, Joe joined Freedom in Jesus Ministries church in Granite City, inspired by his eldest son’s ministry there. An avid outdoorsman, Joe found joy in fishing, skiing, and boating with family and friends, particularly treasuring time spent at the Lake of the Ozarks. The family also cherished their earlier years of float trips and camping adventures. Joe’s passion for golf was highlighted by his proud achievement of a hole-in-one at Spencer T. Olin golf course. Joe will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather and great-grandfather. His absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell Louis Pearman, Sr. and Charlene Faye (McGinness) Pearman and his sister, Shelley Pearman, in infancy.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Valerie Jo (Wolfe) Pearman, of Granite City, Illinois; his three sons, Jody (Charity) Pearman, of Granite City, Illinois, Darryl (Lisa) Pearman, of Granite City, Illinois, and Mark (Sophia) Pearman, of Creola, Alabama; his 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; his siblings, Mike (Betty) Pearman, Bill (Patti) Pearman, and Sher (Aaron) Kindlesparger; his aunt, LaDonna Mundy; his uncle, Richard (Jan) McGinness; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
