Edward Marshall Schroeder, 82, of Glen Carbon, Illinois passed away at 7:37 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Progress West Hospital in O’Fallon, Missouri.

He was born April 1, 1940, in Granite City, Illinois, a son of the late Edward Marshall and Mildred E. (Hesler) Schroeder Sr.

Ed was a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and retired from the Granite City School District after 29 years of dedicated service. He taught German and English at Coolidge Middle School. Ed was formerly associated with Brilliant Antiques of Clayton, Missouri for 20 years and with the Fox Theatre of St. Louis, Missouri for 20 years where he had served as the Director of Volunteer Services. 

 He was a past member of the American Federation of Teachers, National Council of Teachers of English and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. He was a runner-up for Illinois Teacher of the Year in 1988, received the Illinois Distinguished Educator Award in 1988, Granite City Ambassadors Citizen Award in 1989, Crystal Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1990 and was selected for the Who’s Who Among American Teachers in 1990, was one of six St. Louis area teachers chosen as “The Best in St. Louis” in 1991 and one of 36 teachers in the United States selected by the Walt Disney Corporation as a semi-finalist for “The American Teacher Award” in 1991, along with many other recognitions, honors and awards throughout the years. Ed was also a former member of the Masonic Temple #877, Scottish Rite Bodies of Southern Illinois and the Ainad Shrine Temple and a former board member and president of the Animal Protection Association of Granite City, board member and vice president of the Lewis and Clark Lung Association of Edwardsville, board member and chairman of the Quad City Cancer Society of Granite City and board member and president of the Granite City Public Library Board.

He is survived by the anchors of his magical childhood in Granite City, siblings Charles Schroeder of Covington, Louisiana and Ruth (Schroeder) Friend of Boulder Colorado. He is also survived by countless nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former students, and the fellow world travelers he met along the way. He will be sorely missed by all who got to experience his merrymaking, his wit, his compassion, his wisdom.

In celebration of his life and in accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and public services will not be held.

Doris K Wood-Davis, aged 72, of Granite City, Illinois passed away peacefully on March 31st, 2023 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri. 

Doris was born on June 15th, 1950 to parents Lee William Wood and Hazel LaVera Gum in Granite City, Illinois. 

Doris attended some college classes and worked as an office administrator at the SIUE School of Nursing for many years. She was a loving mother and grandmother and aunt who will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her son, James Davis, and his wife Jennifer. Her four grandchildren Jacob Davis, Amber Davis, Tyler Davis, and Sydney Davis. She is also survived by her brother Carl Wood and his wife, Linda;  and her sister Joyce Davenport. Her nieces and nephews Stacey White and her husband, Richard, Amy Nunn and her husband, Rob, Ryan Davenport and his wife, Anisha, Bradley Davenport and his wife, Kristie, numerous loving great nieces and nephews, and other extended family and friends.

Doris is preceded in death by her brother in law, Jim Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at Sunset Hill Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 5th, from 5:00-8:00pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 6th, 2023 at 10:00am with Reverend Susan Harrison officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service on Thursday at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates. 


James Wright Satterwhite, 81, of Granite City, IL, passed away Sun. Mar. 5, 2023 in Granite City.

He was born Sept. 15, 1941 in New Orleans, LA.

Jim is survived by his loving companion: Ada Louise Miller and family: Kim and Jeff Hany and Deb and Darrell Hasty.

Jim was a proud Vietnam veteran. He was never without his Vietnam vet cap and jacket. But every vet from every war was his friend. He loved talking with his vet friends. When he wasn’t chumming with his veteran friends, he was working on his cars. Jim was a complete car enthusiast. His favorite television shows were the car shows. He frequented local car shows too and had his own personal collection of cars. His pride and joy was his old Chevy truck, a 1992 dually he was fixing up. His drawings of what his cars and truck were going to be, when he finished working on them, were impressive, so that even as he grew older, and less able to work on his collection, he could still dream and believe. 

Burial will be private with military honors at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Janet Delores Smith, age 82, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023 at her home. Janet was born on March 14, 1941 in Flat River, MO, a daughter of the late Earnest Jacobs and Eva (Drummonds) Jacobs.

On November 21, 1959, Janet Jacobs married Rev. Jeffrey R. Smith, the love of her life at Community Heights Church in Granite City, IL and Jeffrey passed away on October 26, 2017. Janet retired from Bank of America as a bank officer after many years of service. 

Her greatest joy and dedication was being a pastor’s wife, going to church and helping her husband in church activities. After retirement, Janet enjoyed planting flowers, watching birds and spoiling her grandchildren, great-grandchildren. Janet loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family and serving the Lord. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Janet was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Ina Mae Smith, father-in-law, Henry Smith, brother-in-law, Don Hampton and sister-in-law, Ginger Jacobs.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Kimberly (Douglas) Stephenson of Fayetteville, NC, Kristina Dunbar of Granite City, IL and Kerrie (Chuck) Kolb of Granite City, IL; dear siblings, Jean Hampton, Pat (Lonzo) Patterson, Bill (Gail) Jacobs, Charley Jacobs, Larry (Pat) Jacobs and Michael (Sandy) Jacobs; proud grandmother to Nicole, Bailey, Kaleb (Anna) Dunbar, Kody Dunbar, Hannah (John) Moylan, Jordan (Jessie) Kolb and Sarah (David) Miller; proud great-grandmother to Jaxton, Paislee, Aria, Asher, Brynlee Mae, Shepherd, Denver, Wrenley and Delarae; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In celebration of her life, a memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023 at Reformed Baptist Church, 1800 Pontoon Road, Granite City, IL, with the memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Ben Ritz officiating.

Larry Lee Martin, 81, of Collinsville, Illinois passed away at 9:50 p.m. on Monday, March 27, 2023, at his home.

He was born March 3, 1942, in Granite City, a son of the late Clouis and Katherine (Maykopet) Martin.

Larry married Mary Gale (Hart) Martin on July 17, 1993, at St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church in Granite City and she survives.

Larry excelled in Martial Arts throughout the years and enjoyed teaching others of his knowledge in the art. He was a proud member of the United States National Taekwondo Federation and was a 5th Degree Black Belt. He had owned and operated Martins Taekwondo in Madison and Granite City for several years. 

The United States Marine Corp veteran was a member of the Collinsville American Legion Post #365 and the Granite City Eagles aerie #1126.

He lived his life, always full of adventure and loved creating memories worth repeating. He enjoyed photography, coin collecting and traveling. He enjoyed his days of bowling, playing pool and chess, tending to his yard, taking vacations and cherished times spent with his family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-laws, Angela Rippy of Alton, Candace and Kevin Halpin of Maryville Heights, Missouri, Sandra and Jason Hayes of Granite City and Michelle and Steve Taft of Granite City; ten grandchildren; many great grandchildren; a great-great grandson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Tammy Martin of Staunton and Patrick and Teresa Martin of Edwardsville; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Aaron and Jane Hart of Queen Creek, Arizona; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Annette Missler and a grandson, Theodore Martin.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023, with Father Gene Stormer officiating.

Burial with full military rites will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association and may be accepted at the funeral home.


Laura Peach, 66, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at Gateway Regional Medical Center at 1:05 a.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2023.

She was born May 31, 1956, in East St. Louis, Illinois, a daughter of the late Richard and Zella (Holman) Niehaus.

She retired from Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City after 20 years of dedicated service as a tech monitor.

She enjoyed her trips to the casino and loved the outdoors.

She is survived by her significant other of 25 years, Charlie Aaron of Granite City; two sons, Joseph Randall Peach of Granite City and Jason Robert and Melissa Peach of St. Jacob; four grandchildren, Robbie, Savannah, Ryan and Megan Peach; two great grandchildren, Carter and Isla; a sister, Rhonda Skalak of Chicago; two brothers, Richard Niehaus of Granite City and Jeffrey Niehaus of Granite City; several nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Peach Jr.; two brothers, Christopher Niehaus and Robbie Niehaus and one sister, Cynthia Niehaus.

In celebration of her life, a memorial visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Cathy Crippen officiating.

Judith A. “Judie” Wofford, 76, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 8:19 a.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at her home.

She was born February 16, 1947, in Granite City, the daughter of the late Sherley “Joe” and Della E. (Thornton) Harkey.

She married Curtis S. Wofford on July 2, 1966, in Granite City and he passed away on September 17, 2020.

Judie retired after many years of dedicated service in management and as a bank teller with several credit unions in the area. She enjoyed tending to her yard and gardening, her trips to the casinos and taking many trips with family and friends to Biloxi, Las Vegas and to the beach throughout the years. She and her husband were quite the dancers and enjoyed attending fundraisers and receptions. She also enjoyed playing cards and games with her family and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with them. She had a special love for animals and cherished her dog, China.

Judie is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Gary Sauer of St. Louis, Missouri and Monica and Aaron Stouffer of O’Fallon, Illinois; four grandchildren, Jessica and Anthony Leopold, Logan Ehrenreich, Gabriel Stouffer and Abigail Stouffer; two great grandchildren, Sawyer and Elijah; two brothers, David Harkey and Joe Harkey; other extended family and friends.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023, with Reverend Sharon Autenrieth officiating.

Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.

Memorials may be made to the ASPCA to support animals in need and may be accepted at the funeral chapel.


Charles Mayo Polach, 89, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 11:34 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at his home.

He was born May 1, 1933, in White Hall, Illinois, a son of the late Joseph and Mildred (Holmes) Polach.

He married the love of his life, Janice Kay “Jan” (Colvin) Polach on June 11, 1960, in Granite City and she passed away on July 9, 2020.

Charles retired in 1991 from Granite City Steel after 42 years of dedicated service as an electrician. The United States Navy veteran proudly served his country during the Korean War. 

 He was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City where he served as an usher and was also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Tri-Cities Council # 1098. Charles had a love for fishing, cherished the special times shared with his family and adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by five children and spouses, Judy Baker of Granite City, Pam and Larry Burns of Prescott, Arizona, Charles and Tammy Polach of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Deb and Dave Boots of Granite City and Tracy and Larry Curry of Edwardsville; seventeen grandchildren, Bryan, Robyn, Jayme, Larry Jr., Laura, Brendan, Brianna, Bridget, Brett, Haley, Carley, Emily, Jack, Tessa, Tristan, Madilyn and Jake; eight great grandchildren, Henry, Lucas, Dylan, Savannah, Teddie, Flora, Brooklynn and Blakely; a brother, Joey Polach of Granite City; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Ginny Carstens of St. Charles, Missouri, Mary Pieper of Granite City and Tina and Mike Grant of Edwardsville; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife of 60 years and parents, he was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Amy Marie and Tessa Lynn. 

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City on Friday, March 31, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  A Knights of Columbus Chalice Presentation will be at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass with Father Alfred Tumwesigye as celebrant.

Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.


Cheryl W. Schrader, 62, of Granite City, IL died on Friday, March 24, 2023 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

She was born on November 2, 1960 in Granite City, IL to William and Alice (Dean) Schrader.

The loving mother and grandmother was a very family orientated person.  She liked spending time with her family.  She enjoyed sewing and DIY crafts.  Cheryl was also interested in ancestry. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Cheryl is survived by 2 daughters:  Allison Barton of Dunedin, FL and Melissa Schrader of Granite City; 2 sons:  Richard Schrader of Granite City and Jeremy Schrader of Granite City; 9 granddaughters, 7 grandsons and 1 great grandson.  Also surviving are 4 sisters:  Allene Donohue of Granite City, Darlene (Jerry) Wethy of Salem, MO, Pat (Vernon) Dockery of KY and Deborah (Sonny) Hamel of SC and 1 brother, Allen Schrader of Granite City.

Besides her parents, Cheryl is preceded in death by 7 brothers and 3 sisters.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo will be held later.

On Wednesday, March 15, 2023, Dixie A Stephens, loving wife and mother of 5 children passed away at the age of 91. Dixie was born April 13, 1931, in Granite City IL to James “Bus” and Reba (Smith) Grove.

Dixie married Thomas D Stephens on June 1, 1951. She was a devoted school bus driver who drove for over 40 years with the bus companies that served the Granite City School District. Dixie loved working in her flower gardens. She had a creative mind continuously crafting and creating, always sharing what she made. Dixie was generous to a fault, willing to help anyone in need.

She is proceeded in death by her loving husband of 52 years Thomas D Stephens, their infant son, her parents Bus and Reba, siblings Majorie and Harold Ruetebuch, Tom and Maryann Grove, Carol (George) Grove and Willa Mae (Pud) Mueller, daughter-in-law Claudia Stephens. Dixie is survived by four children, Thomas Craig Stephens, Jamie (David) Morris, Amy (Scott) Paterson, and Stacy (Phillip Jr) Rongey. She has 9 grandchildren, 11 greatgrandchildren. She is also survived by her brother George Grove, brother-in-law, Richard Mueller and several devoted nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Stephens will have a private graveside service at Jefferson Barracks so she can be with her beloved husband. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Alzheimer’s Association are preferred.

John James Ballentine Jr., age 49, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at his home. John was born on August 23, 1973 in Granite City, IL, a son of the late John James Ballentine Sr. and Gloria (Brazel) Kilcollins.

John proudly served his country in the National Guard. He had worked at Amsted Rail as an inspector for over 26 years. He enjoyed playing video games and hanging out with his friends. John never met a stranger and he was as always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be remembered as a loving brother, uncle, cousin and a dear friend to many.

He is survived by his dear siblings, Gloria Ballentine of Madison, IL, Cynthia (Kenneth) Hale of Forth Worth, TX, Vicki (Anthony) Ballentine-Willis of Decatur, IL and Wendell Scott of Mena, AR; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In celebration of his life, a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Cynthia A. “Cindy” Godwin, 66, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 7:12 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

She was born in Germany on October 11, 1956, a daughter of the late Edwin and Joanne (Harvath) Manning. Cindy married Russell Dean Godwin in Granite City on May 5, 1982, and he passed away on March 3, 2013.

She had retired from St. Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City after many years of dedicated service as a medical transcriptionist.

She was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Granite City. Cindy loved flowers and was always tending to her beautiful yard. She cherished her children and grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Holly Wojtysiak and Thomas Biebel of Freeburg, Illinois and Amy Godwin and Kyle Richardson of St. Peters, Missouri; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Brittany Eugea of Maryville, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Cooper Richardson, Jillian Richardson, Joshua (Karen) Wojtysiak, Lauren Biebel, Sophie Biebel, Jacob Biebel and Emma Eugea; two great grandchildren, Shun Matsumoto and one on the way, Zoey Wojtysiak; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Shaun and Linda Manning of Waterloo, Illinois and Scott and Lisa Manning of Granite City, Illinois; other extended family and friends.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a her former husband,, John Eugea; sister, Kelly Nipper and a brother, Daniel Manning.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 with Reverend Sharon Autenrieth officiating.

A graveside service will be held at the Dutch Ridge Cemetery in Pomona, Illinois at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Richard H. Staggs Sr. of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 3:47 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City at the age of 95.

He was born in Granite City on November 7, 1927, a son of the late Clarence and Elsie (Hall) Staggs.

Richard married the love of his life, Mary A. (McCosky) Staggs in Piggott, Arkansas on April 30, 1949, and she survives.

Richard retired from the wrecking crew with Norfolk & Southern Railroad after 38 years of dedicated service as a carman.

The United States Korean War veteran proudly served his country with the Army and later with the Marine Corp. Richard was a 50 year faithful member of Triple Lodge #835 in Granite City and had served as a Past Master and a Past Grand Lecturer. He was a devoted member of the Ainad Shriners where he was a member of the Oriental Band and a longtime volunteer and supporter of Shriner’s Hospital for Children. He enjoyed his days of fishing, camping, playing golf and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and many friends.


In addition to his beloved wife of nearly 74 years, he is survived by four children and their spouses, Richard H. (Kimberly) Staggs Jr. of Sullivan, Missouri, Robert C. (Betsy) Staggs of LaGrange, Kentucky, Cynthia (Ronald) Hopper of Kampsville, Illinois and David A. (Chamie) Staggs of Keyesport, Illinois; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ann Ramsey of Granite City and Barbara Sudbring of Collinsville; brother-in-law, Thomas (Patty) McCosky of St. Jacob; sister-in-law, Kathryn Harris of Tennessee Ridge, Tennessee; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lauren Hopper and two sisters, Mildred Clements and Doris Robinson.


In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. Loftin Woodiel officiating. Masonic rites and Military honors will be rendered.

Kevin Dwayne Strannigan, 61, of Crestview, Florida and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, in Crestview, Florida.

He was born December 3, 1961 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, the son of Jerry N. Strannigan of Glen Carbon and the late Karen (Kelso) Strannigan.

He married Anita L. (Cloninger) Strannigan on January 13, 1990 in Granite City and she survives.

Kevin had worked for J&J Maintenance and the U.S. Forestry in Florida and was a aircraft mechanic with VT Mobile Aerospace Engineering, Inc. He proudly served his country with the United States Army. Kevin was a race car enthusiast and enjoyed car racing and building race cars. He enjoyed his days of watersports and skiing and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife and father, he is survived by a daughter, Shannon (Chad) Polidore of Fayetteville, North Carolina; a granddaughter, Raven Polidore; a sister, Christy (Paul) Hoosier of Jacksonville, North Carolina; stepsister, Alicia (David) Hayek of Chesterfield, Missouri; mother-in-law, Janice (Travis) Huddleston of Granite City; two sisters-in-law, Marla “Marti” Nelson of Granite City and Tammy (Donnie) Mitchell of Granite City; stepmom, Glenna (Deon) Youngkin of Jacksonville, North Carolina; many special nieces and nephews, Christopher (Tina) Hoosier, Kyle (Chantel) Hoosier, Kelsey (Nick) Gladden, Ashley (Doug) Cloninger, Casey Wise, DJ Mitchell, Amanda Mitchell and Katie (Tyler) Mitchell; great nieces and great nephews, Jacobi, Amaya, Orion, Levi, Leo; Conner and Spencer; other extended family and many dear friends.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Sandra “Sandy” Strannigan.

Military rites will be accorded and a private family burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.

Joseph “Pat” Foley, 70 of Madison and formerly of Venice, Illinois passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

Pat was born on April 30, 1952, in Granite City; the son of the late Edward and Lucia (Saucier) Foley.

Pat was a photographer for the Granite City Press Record and a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Venice. He served his country in the United States Army and had a love of photography his entire life. He served on the Venice History Committee and in his free time he loved spending time with his family. Pat will be remembered for the love of his family and all the special times they shared together.

Pat is survived by and will be missed by his sons, Ian Foley of Granite City, Illinois and Jared Foley of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Landon Foley of Benld, Illinois and Lorelai Foley of Benld, Illinois; sister, Meridel Buscher of Brighton, Illinois and many other close family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by his wife, Denise (Mangiaracino) Foley, whom he married on November 1, 1980, and his brother, Edward Foley.

In celebration of Pat’s life, a memorial gathering will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023.

Robert (Bob) Kozielek, 88 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

Bob was a teacher for over 40 years in the Granite City School District. He volunteered his time at the Missouri Botanical Gardens.

Bob is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Warner Brines of Oxford, Mississippi; son and daughter-in-law, Kris and Kelli Kozielek of Chesterfield, Missouri; four grandchildren, Hayden Brines, Lawson Brines, Julie Kozielek and Kayla Kozielek.

In celebration of Bob’s life, visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, March 24, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. A funeral mass will follow at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City at 12:00 p.m.

Helen Ann Sudek, 72, of Granite City, IL, died at 12:30 p.m. Tues. Mar. 14, 2023 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

She was born Feb. 1, 1951 in Granite City to the late Anthony & Caroline “Peggy” (Moizer) Doneff.

On July 31, 1976, she and Anthony “Tony” Joseph Sudek were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Madison, IL

Helen had worked at Grandpa’s and Lowe’s as a clerk for many years.  She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and loved to be outdoors camping and fishing with her husband.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a sister: Dorothy Doneff Tharp; and 2 brothers: Anthony and Joseph Doneff.

Sylvia Eve Mayes, age 76, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Sylvia was born on February 19, 1947 in Germany.

On December 4, 1970, Sylvia married Winston Mayes in Granite City, IL. Sylvia was a proud homemaker who loved taking care of her family and in her younger years she worked as a beautician. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren. Sylvia loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her mother, Lydia Srnek.

Boyd B. Presley Sr., 88, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at his home at 8:28 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2023. 

He was born May 2, 1934, in Granite City, a son of the late Bledsoe Presley and the late Margaret (Pritchett) Houseman.

He married the love of his life, Pauline (Snyder) Presley on April 16, 1965, in Brookport, Illinois and she survives.

Boyd retired as a Regional Manager for Southern Illinois from the United States Postal Service after 40 years of dedicated service. He had also served as a building inspector for Granite City for several years.

He was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Granite City. He had a love of sports throughout his life, was a fan of college basketball, watching his grandchildren play sports, serving as a coach for the Little Rascals football team and many boys baseball teams in the Granite City Park District. He also participated with playing softball in the Senior Olympics and enjoyed his days of fishing. He was a past president and was very involved with the Granite City High School South Booster Club and was recognized for his years of dedication. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife of 57 years, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Boyd B. Presley Jr. and Carolyn E. Presley of Troy, Illinois; three grandchildren, Ty B. Presley, Brynn Presley and Breck Presley; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Eugene Presley.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Saturday, March 25, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:00 a.m. with Daniel Wilson officiating.

James Hesse Senior’s passing on March 19th, 2023, has left his family and friends deeply saddened. He lived a full life and will be remembered for his kind heart, dedication to family, and his many accomplishments.

James grew up in St. Louis, MO, and was the son of Robert and Jeanette Hesse. He had three siblings, Joan (Ron Greifzu), Richard, Brother-in-law Jack Nixon, and the late Toni Nixon. James was a devoted family man and proud father to his five sons, Jim Jr. (Janette) Granite City, IL.; Dave (Susan), Hampstead, NC.; Jay (Sharon) Edwardsville, IL., Bob (Dawn), Cottleville, MO., and Dan (Tamara), Woodstock, GA.

James was a man of many talents, having earned degrees in engineering from Missouri School of Mines – Rolla, MO., and a Master of Business from the University of Hartford in Connecticut. He went on to have a successful career as an engineer at Olin Corporation.

James was known for his work ethic and his commitment to his family.

Outside of work, James enjoyed spending time with his family, watching Cardinals baseball, shooting at the range, and had an affinity for cars and frozen snickers bars.

James will be deeply missed by his five sons and their families, his 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and his lifelong friends. His legacy as a loving father and grandfather will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

A celebration of life memorial gathering will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL.

John B. Valencia, 92 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at his home with his family by his side.

John was born on October 26, 1930 in Granite City; the son of the late Otillio and Juana (Belman) Valencia. John was a computer operations specialist for the United States Government at TRANSCOM in St. Louis for 14 years, retiring in 1989.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring after 23 years of faithful service. John was a well know Golden Gloves Boxing Champ, president of the Mexican Honorary Commission for almost 30 years, life member of the AmVets and the D.A.V.

He was of catholic faith and always enjoyed spending time with his family. John will be remembered for the love of his family and all the special times they shared together.

John is survived by and will be missed by his sons; Richard A. Valencia of Granite City, Illinois, Robert V. Valencia and Rebecca Hill of Granite City, Illinois; daughter, Denise Shannon of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Brennen Hill, Brittney Valencia; great-grandchildren, Charlize “Charlie” Valencia, Tyler Barton; sisters, Delores “Lola” Broyles, Lupe Valencia.

Betty Jo Neeley, age 71, of Granite City, IL, passed away at her daughters home in Collinsville, IL, on Saturday, March 18, 2023, with her three daughters by her side. Betty was born on January 10, 1952 in Little Rock, AR, a daughter of the late Bluferd Neeley and Dollie (Earls) Neeley.

Betty retired from Granite City Steel as a pipefitter, after 30 plus years of dedicated service. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and a dear friend to many.

Betty loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Amber (Mike) Oseland of Collinsville, IL, Delania (Bill) Alexander of Hernando, MS and Olivia (Bryan) Reynolds of Glen Carbon, IL; dear sisters, Peggy Wall, Bertha Neeley and Liz Neeley; proud grandmother to Kadi Jo (Branden) Henderson, Chase (Sarah) Zezoff and Michael Pritchard; one great-granddaughter on the way, Elaina Jo Henderson; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Shirley Yvonne Ridenhour, age 85, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023 at her home. Shirley was born on January 15, 1938 in Hillview, IL, a daughter of the late Leonard M. Bess and Maxine (Mitchell) Bess.

Shirley was a loving mother, lifelong companion, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and a dear friend to many. She had worked as a waitress and bartender at Charlie’s Restaurant for many years.

Shirley had many hobbies that included gardening, canning, quilting and making crafts, were just a few of her hobbies.

 Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley never met a stranger and she was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Peggy J. (Bill) Pierce, Patricia A. (Randy) Lamb and Donna G. Frazier.

Timothy Joseph Scaturro, 59 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at his home with his family by his side.

Tim was born on April 23, 1963 in Granite City; the son of the late Louie J. and Delores J. (Bero) Scaturro. Tim was a grocery manager at Schnucks Super Market in St. Louis. He spent over 45 years in the food service industry proudly serving in both Illinois and Missouri. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City. Tim loved nature and animals alike. He was a member of the St. Louis Aquarium Saltwater Hobbyist and was an avid collector of saltwater fish and corals in his home aquariums. He enjoyed gardening as well as home improvement. He was an avid student of history; he was specifically interested in the works DaVinci and Leonardo.

He was a master woodworker, specializing in Victoria era replication. He was also a gifted auto mechanic and enjoyed restoring classic cars, he was also a fan and supporter of NHRA drag racing. His greatest joy will forever be spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren. His family will remember him for all the special times they shared together and adventures they went on.

Tim is survived by and will be greatly missed by his loving wife; Janet (Atchison) Scaturro, whom he married on May 3, 1986; son, Timothy J.  Scaturro Jr. of Granite City, Illinois; grandchildren, Saleen Ann-Marie Scaturro of Granite City, Illinois, Sophia Rose Scaturro of Granite City, Illinois, Dominic Joseph Scaturro of Granite City, Illinois; sister, Tina Scaturro-Kindle of Glen Carbon, Illinois; brother, Terry (Kathy) Scaturro of Glen Carbon, Illinois; nephews, Robert Kindle, Anthony Kindle, Roman Scaturro, Cameron Scaturro and many other close family members and friends.

Tsarina Andrea Caterina Solano, 26, of Granite City, IL passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023 in her home.

She was born to Yolanda (Chavez) Solano and the late Andres Camargo Solano on June 7, 1996 in Idaho Falls, ID. Tsarina graduated from Hazelwood East High school in 2014. During her senior year she won many awards for her art work, she loved photography and writing. Tsarina was very active in the NA community; she volunteered her time sponsoring those that needed help the most. She loved helping people and enjoyed her career as a social worker advocating for residents at nursing homes. Above all of those things, Tsarina loved spending time with her son, Benino.

Tsarina is survived by her mother Yolanda Solano; son: Benino Martin; Benino’s father, Dale Martin; 2 sisters: Tatiana (William) Cass, Trynyty Chavez; nieces and nephews: Samuel Morrissey, Eva Cass, Javier Cass, Cruz Cass; 3 aunts: Dolores Lucero, Dr. Anna Fraker Gaithersburg, Laura Rose; 2 uncles: Osman Inglaham, James Edgar Harris; 5 cousins; co parent to her son and fiancé, John Berlin, and many other family members and friends.

Clayton Benton Beatty, 44 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis.

Clayton was born on May 3, 1978 in St. Louis; the son of the late Hal Clayton Beatty and Geli (Davis) Beatty of Granite City, Illinois. Clayton was an over the road truck driver for UPS and was known by friends and family as being a great person with a one-of-a-kind personality. Clayton was a dedicated and awesome dad who loved his family and always put their needs above his own. He enjoyed his days of riding motorcycles, listening and enjoying all music and just loved watching movies, especially with his boys. Clayton will be remembered for the love of his family and all the special times they shared together.

Mark (Marko) G. Donaldson as born in Granite City, IL on September 6, 1961 and passed on to his next journey on March 13, 2023 surrounded with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents Hollis and Teresa (Ybarra) Donaldson, sister Teri Valencia, an infant brother John Donaldson, and beloved cousins Esther Ybarra and Ricky Ybarra who was his best friend.

Marko had a 25 year long career at Amsted Rail in Granite City to which he was the third generation of his family to work there. He loved BBQing, spending time with his family, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals especially when they are beating the Cubs.

He is survived by two sisters Amy (Jim) Allen of Granite City and Alice (Allen) Weaver of Glen Carbon, one brother Steve (Cindy) Donaldson of Pevely, MO. Three children; David Donaldson, James Bradford, and Delilah Donaldson all of Granite City. Three grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, cousin, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends.

Marko will be remembered by his loved ones when listening to good music (Pink Floyd or The Beatles), having a good time (enjoying the occasional Seven and Seven), and listening to the TV just a little too loud (To yell at the news).

Jackie Lee Kelley Sr., 51, of Granite City, IL, died Tues. Mar. 14, 2023 at Gateway Regional Medical Center ER in Granite City.

He was born Apr. 14, 1971 in Granite City to the late Patricia (Mathon) O’Brien and Donald Lee Kelley.

Jackie loved spending time with his grandkids and being a grandpa to them.

John Paul Fraser – late of granite City, passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, March 8, 2023, age 72.

John was born January 4, 1951 to the late Grace Ann (nee McCall) and Henry Bernard Fraser in Arlington, MA.  John attended Thompson Elementary School – grades K-6, and attended Arlington Junior High East for grades 7 and 8.  He started Arlington High School as a freshman before moving with his family to Laguna Beach, CA for the remainder of his schooling.

In 1986 John proudly joined the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1990.  During his service he spent much of his time on the aircraft carriers.  Upon his discharge John spent much of his time working un businesses owned by his mother Grace and step-father Robert Taylor.

Per his wishes private graveside services will be held at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, where he will be laid to rest next to his mother Grace.


Nicole Lynn McCoy, 44, of Granite City passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.  She was born January 22, 1979 in Highland, IL.  Nicole never met a stranger; she had many friends and was great with crafts.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved animals.

She is survived by two daughters, Alexia Gabriele of Glen Carbon and Alissa Gabriele of Granite City; grandson, Remington Gabriele; mother and step father, Jeri “Lisa” and Lee Jeter of Glen Carbon; father, Donnie Cole; maternal grandmother, June Taylor of Collinsville; brothers, Cody Jeter of Glen Carbon, Randy Turner of Sorento and Kurt Turner of Caseyville and sister, Sarah Jeter of East Alton.

Mary M. Hunt, 88, of Granite City passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.  She was born October 25, 1934 in Granite City to John and Dena (nee: Weber) Beaver.  She married Gerald “Bill” Hunt on May 29, 1954. 

She worked as a Bus Driver for more than 50 years for the Granite City School District.  She was an avid bowler and enjoyed camping, trout fishing, boating and the outdoors.

Mary loved spending time with her family.  She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and Amalgamated Transit Union.

She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Williams of Granite City; sons, Bill (Rhonda) Hunt of Grafton, IL and Lance (Katherine) Hunt of Granite City; grandchildren, Dena Williams, Billie Jo (Adam) Sanchez, Kelli Hunt, Taylor Hunt and Ryan (Christina) Hunt; great grandchildren Bryce Wilson, Carlee Wright, Dylan Sanchez and Ana Weiland

Walter “Shang” Douglas Greathouse Jr. age 71, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at his home. Shang was born on August 31, 1951, in Granite City, IL, a son of the late Walter “Shang” Douglas Greathouse Sr. and Mildred Greathouse (Hagan).

On April 21, 1978, Shang married Janice Stelling, the love of his life in Edwardsville, IL. Shang retired from MESD (Metro East Sanitary District) as the Superintendent of Operations after 30 plus years of dedicated service. Shang never met a stranger, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand.

 He enjoyed telling stories and making new friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren. Shang will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and a dear friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Shang was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Greathouse.

Gregory “Greg” Vasil Christich, age 67, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Gateway Regional Medical Center, Granite City, IL. Greg was born on January 13, 1956 in East St. Louis, IL, a son of the late Konstanty “Gus” Christich and Helen (Eftimoff) Christich.

Greg was a member of Sts. Cyril & Methody Eastern Orthodox Church in Granite City, IL. Throughout his life he enjoyed working for the State of Illinois highway department, Laclede Gas Company in St. Louis, Missouri and St. Louis Community College where he retired as a landscaper.

Greg enjoyed hunting, mechanical repairs on cars and hanging out with friends. He loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved helping others. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his dear siblings, Kristina (Paul) Batsios and Michael Christich both of Granite City, IL; proud uncle to Thomas (Kelsey) Batsios of Baltimore, MD and Alexandra (Joshua) Mironov of Bordentown, NJ; faithful companion, Jasper; extended family and many wonderful friends.

In celebration of his life, a visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2023 at Sts. Cyril & Methody Eastern Orthodox Church in Granite City, IL, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Andrew Moulton officiating. Grayell Allan Slusher, Jr, 51, of Pontoon Beach, IL passed away Friday, March 10, 2023 in his home.

He was born to Joyce (Riggs) Pertee and the late Grayell Slusher, Sr, on July 3, 1971 in Granite City, IL. Grayell was a very generous person. He loved to take his sons fishing, working on cars, four-wheelers and dirt bikes and the most important thing to him was spending time with his children.

Grayell is survived by his mother Joyce Pertee; 4 sons; Grayell Slusher of Collinsille, Graydon Slusher of Collinsville Gavin Slusher of Pontoon Beach and Grayson Slusher of Pontoon Beach; a brother Steve Howland of Edwardsville IL and a sister: Tammy Howland of Granite City.

Besides his father, Grayell is preceded in death by a brother Michael Howland.

Carole Lee Young, 85, of Granite City, IL died on Monday, March 6, 2023 at her home.

She was born on March 13, 1937 in Granite City, IL to Louis Marmion and Frances (Butler) Westbrook.

Carole married Ralph “Inky” Young in Granite City, IL.  After 49 years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 2003.

The loving aunt was an animal lover who adopted many strays over her lifetime. 

Carole is survived by 3 nieces:  Vickie Hawthorne of Granite City, Debra Barbieri of Belleville and Brenda Gerkin of Jefferson City, MO and many great nieces and nephews.

Elbridge G. MacKenzie, Jr, 80, of Granite City, IL died on Monday, March 6, 2023 at Gateway Regional Hospital in Granite City, IL.

He was born on February 22, 1943 in Washington, MO to Elbridge, Sr and Vera (McMillian) MacKenzie.

Elbridge married Sharon Patton in Granite City, IL on May 4, 1968.

The U.S. Navy veteran enjoyed watching television and football.

Besides his wife, Elbridge is survived by a daughter, Heather Hinson of Glen Carbon; 2 sons:  Scott Mackenzie of Edwardsville and Galen MacKenzie of Granite City; 8 grandchildren and a brother, Robert (Mary) MacKenzie of Dupo.

Elbridge is preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Caitlyn.

Barbara L Bunch, 87 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Edwardsville Care Center.

Barbara was born on March 10, 1935 in Du Quoin, Illinois the daughter of the late Leslie and Marcella (Duncan) Caton.

Barbara was the owner and operator of the Greenway and Apple Valley Motels for many years. Upon retiring her and Bill lived in Belvidere, NC for almost 15 years before moving back to Granite City to be near the grandchildren. Barbara proudly served her country in the US Navy where she met her husband of 64 years Bill

In her free time Barbara enjoyed working in her beautiful garden, playing gin rummy, and taking Monday’s off for date night with Bill who was a barber for many years in Madison Illinois. She also enjoyed traveling and fishing with Bill all over MO, AR and TX. Barbara had a very generous spirit and many people over the years benefited from it.

Barbara is survived by and will be missed by her husband; William R Bunch, whom she married on May 15, 1958; children, Tony Bunch and Rhonda Breece of Alton, Illinois, Marcy (Bunch) Defend and her husband John of Marine, Illinois, and Jon Bunch and Danyelle Grace and the late Carla Bunch of Granite City, Illinois.

Grandchildren, Shanna and husband Shawn Toia, Isabelle and husband Alek Walker, April and husband Andrew Scharfenberg , Tom and wife Lisa Pinnell, Paige and husband Christian Neail, Sadie Pinnell and Riley Jones, Chloe, Brelynn and Kaylee Bunch.

Great- Grandchildren, Ocean and Banyon Toia, Edie and Arlo Scharfenberg , Theo, Davis and Weston Pinnell, Melody York and Mia Bunch along with many precious nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her loving brother Leslie (Sonny) Caton and her sister in law Marilyn Caton.

Barbara Hammonds Blackston was born October 29, 1941 to Loyd and Norine Hammonds in Mulkeytown, Illinois.

Barbara graduated from Christopher Community High School. She married and moved to Granite City, Illinois.

She is the mother of three children. Kevin {Ronda} Smith, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Beth Ann {Bill} Kovach and Lisa {Eddie} Perigen of Granite City, Illinois. 

Barbara spent her professional life as an office manager in the areas of construction, HVAC and financial services. Barbara loved bowling, dancing, reading, listening to music and spending time in Bible study. She was a devout Christian.

Barbara is survived by her three children, her three grandchildren, Austin Perigen, Ryan Kovach and Dehlia Smith and one great grandchild, Shia Perigen. She is also survived by her brother, Paul {Nancy} Hammonds, of Alpharetta, Georgia and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Blackston, her sisters, Ethel Zicker and Doris Livesay and her brother, Frank Hammonds.

Funeral Services will be on Thursday March 9, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at Hammonds Cemetery in Buckner.

Gail Elaine Miles, 83 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at her home.

Gail was born on October 12, 1939 in Venice, Illinois the daughter of the late Frank A. and Vera (Cooley) Wilhelmy. Gail was a homemaker, wife and mom who enjoyed her days of being outside and spending time with her family.

Gail will be remembered for the love of her family and all the special times they shared together.

Donald Raymond Smith, 69, of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Don was born on October 24, 1953 in Granite City, Illinois and was the son of the late Ira Alvern and Arlene (Nichols) Smith. Don was a retired computer programmer for United States Steel and a member of Second Baptist Church in Granite City.

Don served his community as a trustee for his church, a Boy Scout Leader for Troop #1015, and a treasurer for the Granite City Marching Warriors Band Parents. Most of all, Don loved to spend time with his family and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.

Don is survived by and will be missed by his loving wife Judy A. (Caschetta) Smith, whom he married on October 7, 1972; daughter and son-in-law Carlie and Alan Phipps of Whitesboro, NY; sons and daughters-in-law Jeremy and Christina Smith of Granite City, IL, Christopher and Megan Smith of Albers, IL, and Alexander and Mary Smith of O’Fallon, IL; sisters and brothers-in-law Robin and Ron Keeton, and Janet and George “Butch” Hawkes; brothers and sisters-in-law Douglas and Lesa Smith, and Dennis and Tina Smith; grandchildren Paul Phipps, William Phipps, Gabrielle Hartin, and Zoey Smith, and many other close family members and friends.

Carol E. Hopper, 98 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Stearns Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Granite City.

Carol was born on October 13, 1924 in Memphis, TN; the daughter of the late Olyn E. and Thelma E. (Webb) Phillips Sr. Carol was a helicopter parts administrator for the United States Government. She was a long time member of Gateway Family Church in Glen Carbon and enjoyed her days of shopping and spending time with her family.

Carol will be remembered for the love of her family and all the special times they shared together.

Carol is survived by and will be missed by her daughter and son-in-law; Sandy and Hap Schoeber of Granite City, Illinois; son, Lloyd Schrum Jr. of Granite City, Illinois and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Kenneth W. Deason, 69, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 4:13 p.m. Wed. Mar. 1, 2023 at Granite Nursing & Rehab in Granite City.

He was born Mar. 9, 1953 in Granite City to the late Holbert & Lorene (Stroud) Deason.

Ken was a U.S. Navy veteran and after his service he worked as a welder as well as teaching welding at B.A.C.  He had attended Pontoon Baptist Church and loved fishing and being outdoors.

He is survived by a daughter: Rebecca Schaefer; 2 sons: Kevin Deason and Paul Deason; 5 grandchildren: Raymond, Steve, Ryan, Paul and Adam; and 2 sisters: Margaret Gene (William) Zinn and Mary Pascoe.

Norman Thomas “Tom” Peck, 89, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 8:51 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.

He was born June 25, 1933, in Granite City, a son of the late Harry and Clara (Durnberg) Peck.

He married Rhoda M. (Reading) Peck on August 18, 1962, in Granite City and she passed away on November 10, 2017.

Tom retired as a computer analyst from ASCOM in St. Louis with over 30 years of dedicated service with the government.

The United States Army veteran was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church in Granite City and enjoyed his days of woodworking, painting, bowling and working crossword puzzles.

Tom is survived by three children and their spouses, Keith and Jennifer Peck of Granite City, Tina and John James of Millstadt and Greg and Kelly Peck of Maryville; five grandchildren and spouses, Misty and Paul Bridges, Jacob Peck, Katelyn Peck, Sarah Peck and Ashley Peck; a great granddaughter, Mackinzey Bridges; step-grandchildren, Johnny James, Shannon and Mike O’Neill, Dean and Krista Bennett, McCall Roseman, Payten England and Ty England; step-great grandchildren, Sierra, Rylee, Michael Jr., Johnny Jr. and Vada; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Randy, Russell and Richard Peck.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Sunday, March 5, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2023, with Reverend Chris Sedabres officiating.

Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville with military honors.

Myrna R. Freeman, 55, of Granite City, IL, passed away Wed. Mar. 1, 2023.

She was born Mar. 8, 1967 in East St. Louis, IL to Linda L. (Honness) Madison of Granite City and the late Darwin Freeman.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by 4 children: Danelle (Josh) Nickens, Brixanna Barbarotto, Alex Wagener and Albert Wagener; and a sister: Cynthia (Johnny) Pastoriza.

Besides her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Allison Marlene Wagener; and a brother: Darwin Freeman Jr.
