Patricia Marie Noeth Gonwa, 89, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 6:54 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at her home.
She was born November 10, 1934, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Christ and Anne (Sekora) Noeth.
Patricia retired in 2005 from the Granite City School District after 48 years of dedicated service as a teacher, school counselor and principal.
She achieved her PHD degree in Education Administration prior to becoming principal at Maryville Elementary School in Granite City.
She worked as a School Counselor at L’Overture Junior High School in St. Louis, Missouri for an additional 10 years, and then permanently retired.
Patricia was an active member of Palm Beach Gardens Women’s Club, a service club that fundraises to provide a college scholarship every year to a deserving recent high school graduate. She made many close friends that she cherished.
She also felt very fortunate for the past 18 years to have both of her children living in Florida very close to her and was always very involved in their lives. Her daughter Diane lived with her for the past 18 years.
She enjoyed having flowers bloom all year long in Florida in her front and backyards, so gardening was a fond activity. Blooming flowers made her happy days even happier, with her sunny disposition.
She is survived by a daughter, Diane Riddle of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and 2 sons: Beau Riddle of Hesperus, Colorado and his daughter MacKenzie; Scott Riddle and his wife Dr. Maria Gamboa of San Diego, California. Patricia’s son, Dr. Mark Gonwa and wife Brandi Gonwa of Jupiter, Florida, and Mark has 3 children: Jonathan Gonwa and fiancé Stephanie of Grafton, Wisconsin; Mary Haywiser and husband Cory of Zelienople, Pennsylvania and their sons Hudson and Lucas; Jenny Cronin and husband Adam of Arden, North Carolina and their son Nolan. Her former husband and friend, Edward Gonwa and wife Judith of Green Oaks, Illinois. Patricia’s sister, Dorothy Scheibal of Godfrey, Illinois; and Sister-in Law Mildred Noeth of Granite City, Illinois; and her many nieces and nephews and their children, as Patricia was the youngest of 8 siblings.
Preceded in death are sister Rita Jones, and brothers Fred Noeth, Tom Noeth, Ted Noeth, Pete Noeth and Jim Noeth.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024, with Father Alfred Tumwesigye as celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Luncheon to follow at the Harmony Room at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.

Skip Michael Mullen, 63, passed away at 7:48 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at his home after a very brief illness.
He was born on July 11, 1960, in Granite City, Illinois, to John and Nancy (Batson) Mullen. At birth he weighed only 3lbs, and his mother called him her miracle child.
He married the love of his life, Paulette (Rials) Mullen, on June 22, 2002, in Bloomington, Illinois. The two shared an amazing and unbreakable bond of friendship, love and family.
Skip was employed for many years at Walmart and Illinois Wesleyan University and is known for his awesome work ethic. He was a beloved man and die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan. Skip had a smile that made everyone smile and a unique laugh that made everyone laugh with him. He valued hard work and treasured spending time with and spoiling his grandchildren. One of Skip’s favorite places was the family cabin, where he spent time laughing with his mom and the rest of the family. He especially enjoyed taking his grandkids there to fish, swim and collect tadpoles.
He loved his family beyond measure, and was always there for them offering love, encouragement and support in any way possible. Skip was a blessing to his family and will be missed dearly, but they will keep the memories they shared with him alive and hold his love dearly to their hearts. He was a devoted husband, son, brother, uncle, stepfather, grandfather and friend.
Skip was preceded in death by his father, John Mullen; sister, Elizabeth Mullen; sister-in-law, Charlotta Rials; brothers-in-law, Shawn Rials and Anthony Rials; and his grandson, Martrell “Dudy” Rials.

Margaret Ann “Maggie” Fedora, 86, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 30, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 3, 1938, in Granite City, she was the cherished daughter of the late Edward and Wilma (Harrison) Dortch.
Maggie dedicated many years to working alongside her mother, creating stunning interior designs for Wilma’s Draperies. Later, she devoted herself to raising her three children, finding immense joy and purpose in her family.
Maggie’s life was a tapestry of treasured moments spent with loved ones, each memory a precious gem. Her patriotism and community spirit shone brightly through her volunteer work with the ladies’ auxiliaries of the VFW, American Legion, and DAV. Maggie will be remembered as a beloved wife, a loving mother, and a doting grandmother and great-grandmother. Her absence leaves a profound void, but her legacy of kindness and caring will continue to inspire all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Wilma (Harrison) Dortch and her son, Rick Noser.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Frank Fedora, of Granite City, Illinois; her children, Debra “Debbie” (David) Funk, of White Hall, Illinois and Thomas “ Tom” Noser, of Chicago, Illinois; her grandchildren, Shawn Noser, Sr., Crystal (Josh) Camden, and Lauren (Josh) Allen; her great grandchildren, Faith Noser, Shawn Noser, Jr., Adalyn Camden, Joslyn Camden, and Waylon Allen; her sister, Carla (Ed) Mullins, of Fort Myers, Florida; her nieces, Rhonda Anderson and Tina (Steve) Acra; and many other relatives and friends.

Betty Jane Young, 94, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at 11:39 a.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Cedarhurst Assisted Living in Granite City.
She was born April 2, 1930, in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Seaburn and Gladine (Martin) Short.
She retired from the United States Government after many years of dedicated service as a secretary.
Betty was a faithful and dedicated member of Calvary Life Church in Granite City. She never knew a stranger and cherished her love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by three children and their spouses, Stephen Underkofler of Virginia; Kathy and Bob Stegemeier of Granite City and David A. and Christy Young of Granite City; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Jack Underkofler, Clare and Scott Stinson, Helen Underkofler, Brad and Lindsay Hutchings, Amanda and Keith Harris, Chloe and Anthoney Ragnetti, Nash Young, Cara Tindall and Madeline and Chris Giglio; seven great grandchildren, Fiona Giglio, Michael Giglio, Fallyn Harris, Laityn Harris, Suttyn Harris, Hayden Hutchings and Quinn Hutchings; two sisters, Barbara Dennison of St. Louis and Linda Davis of St. Louis; a sister-in-law, Janet Short of Farmington, Missouri; her lifelong beloved cousin, Joan Webb of Florida; cherished nieces and nephews that she shared many good memories; special friend, Diane Seiz of Granite City; other extended family and friends.

Billie Edward Stevens,Jr, 66, of Granite City, IL died on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Granite Nursing & Rehab Center in Granite City, IL.
He was born on December 27, 1957 in Granite City, IL to Billie Edward Stevens, Sr and Eleanor (Gregory) Porter.
The loving brother was an avid stock car racing fan. He raced for a couple of years at various racetracks including Tri-City Speedway in Granite City. When not actually racing, he would help other drivers with their race cars.
Billie is survived by a brother, Charlie (Karen) Porter of Granite City, IL and 2 sisters: Barbara Porter of Maryland Heights, MO and Angela Porter of Granite City, IL.
Billie was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marilyn Stevens.

Polly Ann Thompson, 57, Of Granite City, IL passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024.
She was born to Deloris (Eakens) Thompson and the late Dexter Thompson Sr., on February 3, 1967 in St. Louis, MO. Polly worked as a Paralegal assistant for many years in St. Louis. She enjoyed line dancing and spending time with her children and grandchildren; she really enjoyed making people smile and brightening their day.
Polly is survived by 3 daughters: Tiffani Thompson, Marissa Lahey, Patricia (John Williamson) Lahey; a son: Anthony Lahey; 2 grandchildren: Greyson Lahey, Weston Williamson; her mother: Deloris Thompson; a brother: Dexter (Terri) Thompson Jr.; a niece: Allison Thompson; and a nephew: Jayson Thompson.
Besides her father, Polly is preceded in death by a sister: Tamara Thompson.

Forest D. Boelling, 94, of Collinsville, Illinois passed away at 2:55 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024, at the University Nursing and Rehab in Edwardsville.
He was born August 4, 1929, in Granite City, Illinois, a son of the late Ernest and Naomi (Jenkins) Boelling.
He married the love of his life, Rosalee “June” (Reynolds) Boelling on April 16, 1973, in Las Vegas, Nevada and she passed away on January 19, 2014.
After high school, Forest was recruited by the Brooklyn Dodgers and enjoyed two years as their left-handed pitcher. He then began a career with Conalco Aluminum in Venice. After his retirement, he enjoyed several years working as an usher for the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
Forest was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Blues fan throughout the years. He also loved his days of traveling and had a love for dogs. Forest and June had a large blended family and Forest was so proud to be an integral part of the love and special moments shared with them all.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Karen (Clifton Jones) Boelling of Troy, Kim (John) Mueller of Waterloo, Kent (Judy) Boelling of O’Fallon, Missouri, John Philip Barham of Granite City, Nola Barham of Collinsville, Sharon (Bob) Link of Mark Twin National Forest, Missouri and Debra A. (Michael) Garland of Granite City; seven grandchildren, Michael, David, Zachary, John, Matthew, Tracy and Julia; several great grandchildren; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rudi Barham and a daughter, Lavonda Barham.

John Marsala, Sr, 73, of Granite City, IL died on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at his home.
He was born on November 5, 1950 in St. Louis, Mo to Vincent, Sr and Dorothy (Hill) Marsala.
John married Shirley Morgan in Granite City, IL on November 5, 1972.
The loving father and grandfather enjoyed watching and playing sports. He particularly liked to play horseshoes. John was a big Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. He also enjoyed singing. John’s best enjoyment was taking care of his children whom he loved very much.
John is survived by his wife; 4 daughters: Gina Marsala of Granite City, IL, Lisa Marsala of Hopkinsville, KY, Kathy Marsala of Hopkinsville, KY and Tracy McHugh of Highland, IL; a son, John Marsala, Jr of Granite City, IL and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Jim Marsala of Granite City, IL and 3 sisters: Tina Cell of Granite City, IL, Nancy Marsala of Granite City, IL and Shelly Crook of OK.

Janet Lou Wilhite, 84, of Maryville and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 3:09 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at the Stillwater Senior Living in Edwardsville.
She was born May 11, 1940, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Keith and Ruby (Estler) Hart.
She married Robert “Bob” Wilhite on December 8, 1972, at Central Christian Church in Granite City and he passed away on February 6, 2014.
She retired from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers in 1995 after over 30 years of dedicated service in contracting. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Granite City.
Janet loved her days of traveling and enjoyed shopping, playing the slots, dancing and listening to a variety of music. She cherished her family and friends and enjoyed special times shared with them.
She is survived by five dear children and their spouses, Lori and Jerry Weber, Dana and Bruce Patton, Susan and Randy Coffey, Jason and Lorraine Wilhite and Jennifer and Bill Mullen; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Amanda and Michael Daugherty, Andrew Weber, Courtney Patton, Samantha and J.J. Charlsie L. Vunovic, nee-Burch, 95, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 1:53 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at her home.
Born February 28, 1929, in Aubrey, Texas, a daughter of the late Charles and Grace (Bogard) Burch.
She married Walter G. Vunovic on November 27, 1954, in Granite City and he passed away on January 2, 2012.
Charlsie graduated from Granite City High School in June 1946. Shortly after graduation, she began a 27-year career at General Steel Industries, Commonwealth Plant, where she ended up in St. Louis working for the Chairman of the Board. She later was employed with KMOX Radio and ended her career with seventeen years at Boatmen’s Bank. Charlsie was a charter member of the Tri-Cities Chapter, National Secretaries Association and especially enjoyed her sponsorship of the Future Secretaries Association chapters at Granite City South and North and at Madison High Schools. She was proud to receive the title of Illinois Secretary of the Year in 1964.
She was a devoted and faithful member of Central Christian Church in Granite City and had served as a volunteer secretary for five years. In addition to spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, she enjoyed working on projects involving plastic canvas, knitting, crocheting and contact paper. She and her husband also enjoyed many years of weekend camping with close friends at the Tomahawk Campground in Pierron.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy and Rick Hodge of Caseyville and Lynn Davis of Granite City; five grandchildren and spouses, Matthew and Christy Davis, Shellie Conley, Ryan and Katie Hodge, Julianne Hodge and Kevin Hodge; eight great grandchildren, Ashlynn Conley, Cason Curry, Eden Hodge, Elleyna Hodge, Cody Jacober, Paige Jacober, Vaughn Davis and Vance Davis; special friend, John Behlmann; many nieces; nephews; cousins; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband of 57 years and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Charles “R.C.” Burch and Weldon and Peggy Burch and a sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Durrel Barnett.

Richard Steven Gerlach, 70, a lifelong resident of Granite City, Illinois, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Gateway Regional Medical Center. He was born October 28, 1953, to the late Cleve Dale and Edna Maxine (Kuehnel) Gerlach.
He married the love of his life, Carolyn Jean (Reeves) Gerlach on May 18, 1974, in Granite City, recently celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
A proud veteran, Richard served with honor in the United States Navy. His dedication to service extended beyond his naval career as he was an active Life member of Madison AMVETS Post 204, contributing to the lives of fellow veterans. Richard’s love for the great outdoors was evident in his passion for camping and fishing. He found solace in nature’s embrace, often surrounded by family and the tranquil sounds of a flowing river. An avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Richard’s enthusiasm for baseball was infectious. Above all, Richard was a man of generosity and kindness, always ready to engage in meaningful conversation and share a laugh. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he treasured every moment with them. His legacy of patriotism, compassion, and camaraderie will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. Richard’s departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleve D. and Edna M. (Kuehnel) Gerlach and his three siblings, Rhona Jean Vaughn, Patricia Dale Moreland, and Julia Lynn DuPree.

Bettye Nadine (Doyle) Baker-Jiles, a cherished pillar of the Madison, Illinois community and a beacon of care and compassion, passed away peacefully at her home on June 20, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on January 9, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri, Bettye was the loving daughter of Emma Mae Doyle and James Thomas.
A devout parishioner of St. Mary and St. Mark Catholic Church, Bettye’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her passion for healthcare led her to earn a bachelor’s degree from McKendree University in nursing and a master’s degree in business administration from Lindenwood University.
She embarked on a remarkable 45-year journey as a Registered Nurse, touching lives at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Christian Welfare Hospital, South Pointe Hospital, St. Mary’s, and finally, Kenneth Hall Regional Hospital in East St. Louis. Bettye’s nurturing spirit extended beyond healthcare, as she served her community as a realtor with Century 21 and as a home healthcare nurse. Her commitment to service was further exemplified by her active involvement in the St. Ann’s Society and the West Madison Woman’s Club. She had an appreciation for western movies, dancing, and the serene beauty of flowers. An exceptional cook, Bettye delighted in preparing wonderful feasts for her loved ones, however, she also loved a fine dining experience, sampling exquisite entrees with family and friends. The thrill of the local casinos was a joy for her, as she reveled in the vibrant lights and sounds. Above all, Bettye’s heart belonged to her family and friends. The moments shared with them were her most treasured, creating a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering care. She will be forever remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother, an adoring grandmother, and a beloved sister. Bettye’s absence leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her spirit of generosity and kindness will continue to inspire us all.
She was preceded by in death by her parents, Emma Mae Doyle and James Thomas; and by Raymond and Margret Green, who took Bettye in after her mother’s passing and raised her as their own; and her siblings, Joan Sanders and Val Thomas.

Carol Ann (Saltich) Trittschuh, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated nurse, passed away on June 20, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion. Born on August 19, 1941, in Granite City, IL, Carol was the daughter of Margaret and Steve Saltich and grew up surrounded by the warmth of family in her hometown. She graduated from Granite City High School in 1959 and embarked on her nursing journey at St. Joseph Nursing School in Alton, graduating in 1962. That same year she married her high school sweetheart, John “Jack” Trittschuh, on October 27, 1962, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Granite City, coinciding with her parents’ 25th wedding anniversary.
Carol’s nursing career was marked by unwavering dedication and care. She began at St. Elizabeth Hospital and later specialized as a pediatric nurse, working alongside Drs. Berman, Wilkins, Antinue, and later with Drs. Ahmad and Rana until her retirement in 2014. Her kindness and nurturing spirit, two of her greatest traits, extended beyond her professional life. Carol provided loving care for her mother, Margaret, as well as her Aunt Helen Hoffek and Uncle Rudy Hoffek for multiple years.
Outside of her nursing career, Carol found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and enjoyed moments outdoors, gardening and working in her yard. Carol also enjoyed Cardinals baseball, watching soccer, and loved social outings with friends and family, whether for lunch, shopping or at the casino. Her unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life, reflected in her dedication to her beliefs and her active participation in her church community.
Carol was preceded in death by her sister, Debbie Saltich, her brother, Stephen Saltich, and her beloved husband, John “Jack” Trittschuh. She is survived by her brothers, Jack (Pam) Saltich and Dave (Pam) Saltich, her sons, Jack Trittschuh and Steve (Debbie) Trittschuh, and her cherished grandchildren, Aspen, Cody, and Teal, as well as nieces and nephews Shelly (Saltich) Cope, Lorrie (Saltich) Murphy, Dan Saltich, Amanda (Saltich) Carrigan, Jacob Saltich, and Joseph Saltich.
In celebration of Carol’s life, a visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until time of a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. with Father Steve Thompson as celebrant. Internment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be made to Masses or to a charity of one’s choice.
Carol will be remembered for her boundless love, her gentle spirit, and her selfless dedication to others. May her legacy of compassion and kindness continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Mary Jane Nichols, 97, of Granite City, Illinois went to be with her Lord and Savior at 7:24 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
She was born December 12, 1926, in Bassett, Arkansas, a daughter of the late William C. “Bill” LaRue and the late May Belle (Simpson) LaRue Smithe.
She married Lynn “Nick” Nichols on May 22, 1946, and they resided in Steele, Missouri until they moved to Granite City where work was plentiful. He passed away on February 5, 2020
Mary Jane was a faithful member of City Temple Assembly of God Church in Granite City and was active in church from a young age. She had worked in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and the Woman’s Ministries through the years. She enjoyed her days of gardening, tending to her home and attending many senior citizens dinners and programs.
She is survived by a son, Robert W. Nichols; two granddaughters, Jessica (Paul) Drahos and Brianna Nichols; a grandson, Ryan (Hanna) Nichols; a sister, Janice Molder; nieces; nephews; other extended family and many friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Nichols; a sister, Jo Margaret McClelland and four brothers, William LaRue Jr., Richard LaRue, Jerry LaRue and Oliver LaRue.

Daniel W. Askins, Sr, 71, of Granite City, IL died on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
He was born on August 16, 1952 in St. Louis, MO to George and Helen (White) Askins.
Daniel enjoyed music and he played the guitar. He also was an outdoors person who enjoyed fishing.

William Christopher “Chris” Davis, age 60, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, IL.
Chris was born on August 5, 1963, in Paducah, KY, a son of Charline (Burnham) Davis of Glen Carbon, IL, and the late William L. “Bill” Davis.
A graduate of Granite City High School North, Chris also received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He worked for radio stations, in retail, and other industries prior to his retirement.
He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and he loved watching Judge Judy. Chris also enjoyed volunteering at Granite City A.P.A. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, whom he loved dearly. Chris will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his loving mother, Chris is survived by his dear sister and brother-in-law, Deirdre “Dedee” and Barry Green of St. Jacob, IL; proud uncle to Austin Green; extended family and friends.

Virginia Martin, age 96, of Granite City, Il, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Granite Nursing and Rehab Center, Granite City, IL. Virginia was born on February 12, 1928, in Granite City, IL, a daughter of the late Percy and Virginia (Tayon) Wilkinson.
On December 30, 1948, Virginia Wilkinson married Stanley L. Martin, the love of her life in Arkansas, and Stanley passed away on May 7, 2014. Virginia will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and a dear friend. She enjoyed quilting, gambling and taking trips with her family and friends. Virginia will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her siblings, Laura Ruder, Eugene Wilkinson, Dorothy Bugger, Frank Wilkinson, John Wilkinson, Eleanor James, Percy Wilkinson, Mabel Auxtinee, Grace Foley, Linda Hall, Oscar Wilkinson and Margaret Frazier; son-in-law, Marion Courtney; and by a grandson, Scott Courtney.

Arlene P. Tadlock, age 89, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Carlyle Healthcare & Senior Living in Carlyle, IL. Arlene was born on December 9, 1934, in Chicago, IL, a daughter of the late Arthur J. Broche Jr. and Margaret E. (Boyd) Broche.
On April 2, 1953, Arlene Broche married James F. “Tad” Tadlock, the love of her life and Tad passed away on April 20, 1997.
Arlene was a faithful member of Johnson Road General Baptist Church in Granite City, IL. She was also a member of Eastern Star and Granite City Moose Lodge. Arlene retired as a bus driver from Harman & Sons in 1977 after sixteen years of dedicated service. Arlene loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and dear friend to many.
In addition to her parents, and husband, Arlene was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Bustos; brother, Thomas Broche; two grandsons and by one granddaughter.

Jerry Wayne Patterson, 60, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away, Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at St. Louis University Hospital surrounded by family. He was born August 27, 1963, in Geneva, Illinois to the late Gerald C. and Barbara G. (Watkins) Patterson.
Jerry was the owner and visionary behind Wayne Fenestration Designs, where his expertise with CAD software brought countless building designs to life for his clientele. His specialization in window and door designs was unparalleled, yet his skill set extended far beyond, encompassing nearly every facet of building architecture. His dedication and diligence were the cornerstones of his work and business
He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Blues. His quick wit and readiness to share a moment of joy were his trademarks, leaving a legacy of laughter and smiles in his wake. Jerry’s life was a testament to dedication, perseverance, and the unwavering importance of family. As a cherished husband, adoring father, beloved brother, and respected son-in-law, Jerry’s absence leaves an indelible void, and his memory will continue to inspire and guide us.

Mary E. Rouland, 99, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 10:16 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the Westview Assisted Living of Ellisville, Missouri.
She was born April 10, 1925, in Lilbourn, Missouri, a daughter of the late Gustavus and Amanda Jewel (Ewing) Tinsley.
She married the love of her life, Robert A. Rouland on May 17, 1947, in Granite City and he passed away on August 12, 2020.
She retired from the Granite City Army Depot in 1988 after 25 years of dedicated Civil Service. She was a dedicated and faithful member of the Niedringhaus United Methodist Church in Granite City for over 50 years where she had been active in the choir and with many committees through the years. Mary was also a member of the Juanita Rebekah Lodge #477 where she had served as a Past Noble Grand and the Past President of District #26 from 1954 until 1995. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Lori Rouland of Fenton, Missouri; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Jim Provinse of Chesterfield, Missouri; grandchildren and spouses, James and Mary Provinse, Kristin Provinse, Sarah and Jason Bowman and Megan and Marc Wildhaber; granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Provinse; great grandchildren, Katie, Isabel, Anna, John, Natasha, Micah, Taryn, Gunner, Cecilia, Charlotte, Brayden, Madilyn and Wesley; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

Gretta Gail Brown, 88, of Granite City, IL passed away Monday, June 17, 2024 at Granite City Nursing and Rebab.
She was born to the late Thomas and Grace (Fulkerson) Sparks on September 19, 1935 in Uniontown, Kentucky. Gretta was a kind and giving woman. She donated money and food to the animal and homeless shelters and would give you her last dollar if she thought you needed it for a meal. Gretta was a woman of god and loved attending church at Word of Life Tabernacle in Granite City.
Gretta is survived by 2 daughters: Ellen (Dave) Parker of Granite City, IL, Barbara (Terry) Tinsley of Centralia, IL; a son: Darryl (Cindy) Bailey of Granite Ciy, IL; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 3 sisters: Cathy Jaros, Joyce Badgett, Carla Davis.

Vivian Ruth (Williams) Starnes, 94, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. She was born April 22, 1930, in Granite City to the late Alvia and Lona (Ard) Williams.
A pillar of faith, Vivian dedicated herself to the congregation of West 22nd Street Baptist Church. Her commitment to her faith was as unwavering as her love for her family. She and her husband, Arthur, shared a passion for bowling and were active participants in various bowling leagues over the years.
Her love for the outdoors was just as profound, with camping trips and journeys to nature’s wonders marking the chapters of her adventurous spirit. Above all, Vivian cherished the time spent with her family. The moments shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the jewels of her life, each memory a treasure locked within their hearts. Her legacy is one of kindness and generosity, a testament to a life lived in the service of others. Vivian’s warm heart and helping hands have touched many lives, leaving an indelible mark of compassion. She will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will forever resonate with all who had the privilege to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Arthur D. Starnes; her two sons, Ricky and Cedric Starnes, her daughter, Diane Roberts; her siblings, Clyde, Raymond, and Fred Williams,, Loretta Burnett, Stella Green, Irene Bertals, and Shirley Warren; and her two sons-in-law, Lynn and Dave.

Heidi Marie Bailey, 81, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024, at home surrounded by loved ones. She was born December 8, 1942, in Berlin Germany, to the late Herbert and Teresa (Sohnell) Blume.
With a career spanning many years at the Moose Lodge #1349 in Wood River, Illinois, Heidi’s dedication and service left a lasting impact. Her passion for arts and crafts brought beauty into the world, with needlepoint being a particular favorite. A savvy shopper, Heidi’s zest for finding the best deals was unmatched, and her joy in the hunt was infectious. Heidi’s green thumb was evident in the meticulous care she gave to her flower beds and gardens, creating an oasis of tranquility and color that reflected her love for nature.
But above all, it was her adoration for her “King,” the little boy who brought boundless joy and light into her life, that truly defined her. Her legacy is one of love, care, and compassion—a testament to a life well-lived and the many hearts she touched. Heidi’s memory will be treasured and celebrated by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Theodore Williams “Ted” Macios, 90, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
He was born January 18, 1934, in Granite City, a son of the late Stanley W. and Bertha (Calvin) Macios.
He married the love of his life, Norma J. (Knobeloch) on February 2, 1943, in Madison, Illinois and she survives.
Ted was proud to be a 1957 graduate from the Rolla School of Mines and later retired in 1989 from Boeing in St. Louis after 27 years of dedicated service as a mechanical engineer with McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft.
He was a faithful member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Granite City where he was active with the Seafarers Ministry and was also a member of the Masonic Triple Lodge in Granite City. Ted was a sports enthusiast, always enjoyed watching all sports, but had a special love of golf and enjoyed playing with the league and his family. He also enjoyed his days of fishing and passing on his love to his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife of 67 years, he is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Stan Cleveland of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Donna Hawkins of Maryville and Karen and Steve Tierney of Riverview, Florida; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Carol Macios of Granite City; fourteen grandchildren, Kristen, Nathan, Kyle, Tyler, Leanne, Samantha, Rachel, Sean, Nicole, Michelle, Kji, Cari, Kimi and Brian; thirteen great-grandchildren, Hazel, Landon, McKenzie, Max, Aubree, Beau, Gwen, Grace, Eliana, Cole, Hudson, Natalia and Hayes; nieces; nephews; other extended family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Carl and JoAnn Macios.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at the First United Presbyterian Church, 2160 Delmar Avenue in Granite City on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until time of a funeral service at 12:00 noon with Reverend Jennifer Warren-Hauser officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.

Donna Rae Kagy, age 88, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville, IL. Donna was born on September 24, 1935, in Breese, IL, a daughter of the late Russell and Evelyn (Asbury) Gansmann.
On August 15, 1953, Donna Gansmann married Richard Earl Kagy, the love of her life in Mt. Vernon, IL. Donna was a proud homemaker who loved taking care of her family. She was a faithful member of Clark Avenue Church of Christ in Granite City, IL. Donna was also a former member of Eastern Star and she volunteered at St. Elizabeth Hospital on the baby floor for many years.
Donna was an amazing cook and she loved cooking delicious meals for her family. She also enjoyed word search puzzles and coloring in adult coloring books. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Donna will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and a dear friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Patricia Ann Hartman (née Blumenstock), 88, of Madison, Illinois passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Liberty Village in Maryville.
She was born October 16, 1935, in Venice, Illinois, a daughter of the late Oel and Geneva (née Richardson) Blumenstock.
She married Andrew J. Hartman on June 14, 1958, in Madison, Illinois and he passed away on October 15, 1992.
Pat worked as a secretary in the Madison School District for several years. She retired with the Granite City School District #9, and was a member of the Cafeteria and Custodian Union Local
98. She was also a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union 222 and life member of the Amvets Auxiliary 204.
She is survived by two daughters and son-in-laws, Judith Mudro (John), Kimberly Obremski/Adams (John); and one son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Hartman (Amy). She is a grandmother to 15, and a great-grandmother to 23. She has three siblings, Carol Hutchinson, Beverly Robertson, and Linda Vincent; many nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Janet Werner and Gloria Hoover.

Karl W. Ebrecht, 67, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was born September 17, 1956, in Granite City, a son of the late Robert Charles and Elizabeth Anne “Betty” (Orr) Ebrecht.
He married Sue (Lovelady) Ebrecht on June 3, 1978, at Central Christian Church in Granite City and she survives.
He had worked at I.B.C. in St. Louis with many years of dedicated service at Hostess-Wonder Bread in chocolate refinery production. Karl was talented in woodworking and made many beautiful pieces throughout the years. He loved riding his Harley Davidson, antique shopping and vacations. He also enjoyed his days in the DeMolay, hunting, fishing and bowling. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his three children and their spouses, Adam and Tricia Ebrecht of Charleston, South Carolina, Kimberly and Shane Griggs of Granite City and Nicole and Bryan Pejakovich of Granite City; six grandchildren, Kyleigh, Landon, Karly, Gabriella, Elijah and Matthew; two brothers and their spouses, David and Sherri Ebrecht of O’Fallon, Illinois and Seth “Tom” and Lisa Ebrecht of Granite City; his mother-in-law, Etheline Hall of Granite City; two brothers-in-law, Jim Hall of Granite City and Jay Petras of Breese; sister-in-law, Debora Ebrecht of Highland; his beloved Boston Terrier, Winston; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Roberta Petras and Karen and James Ray and a brother, Steven Ebrecht.

Lois I. Mitchem, 82, of Pontoon Beach, IL died on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at her home.
She was born on May 6, 1942 in Poplar Bluff, MO to Amos and Mattie (Hill) Ward.
Lois married Earnest Frank Mitchem, Jr and he preceded her in death in 1991.
The loving mother is survived by a daughter, Pamela (Scott) Kaskeski of Pontoon Beach, IL; 2 sons: Edward (Jodi) Damrath of Hoopeston, IL and Jeffery Damrath of Granite City, IL; grandchildren: Bree, Elizabeth, Brian, Kristen, Scott, Edward III, Todd, Alexander and other grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lois had several siblings, both living and deceased.
Besides her husband and parents, Lois is preceded in death by a son, Paul “Allen” Damrath.

JoAnn “Tody” King, 89, of Granite City, Illinois passed away and ended her courageous five-year battle with Alzheimer’s at 2:05 a.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Cedarhurst of Granite City Memory Care.
She was born March 25, 1935, in Granite City, the daughter of the late Alan and Alice (Smith) Whitaker.
She married William Charles “Chuck” King on February 4, 1995, at St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City and he passed away on November 17, 2023.
JoAnn had worked for the Railroad for several years and later retired in 1996, from the Department of Agriculture after 15 years of dedicated service as a secretary. She had also owned and operated Thee Hobby Horse Shoppe in Granite City from 1976 until 1979.
She was a talented artist and loved her days of painting, working with crafts and artwork. She was a faithful and devoted member of St. John United Church of Christ where she was active with the Evening Guild, Quilter’s group and leaves much of her artistic talent on the walls throughout the church. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by a daughter, Denise (Dave) Lofink of Granite City; two sons, Michael (Gena) Kalert of Bethalto and David (Scott Eberhart) Kalert of Glen Carbon; three stepsons, Brian (Teresa) King of Fulton, Missouri, Brad King of Imperial, Missouri and Brent King of Columbia, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Maerhanda Rolens, Steven Kalert, Melissa Sullivan, Jacob Kalert, Briana King, Rachel King, Evelyn King and Cyd King; six great grandchildren, Destiny, Aubrey, Paige, Joseph, Charli and Blake; one great-great granddaughter, Addilyn; a sister, Betty Stearns of Granite City; other extended family and friends.

Jessica Lynn White, 39, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 4:21 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024.
She was born April 21, 1985, in Granite City, a daughter of Martha M. White of Granite City.
Jessica enjoyed her years of participating with the Special Olympics, attending day camps and bowling. She attended several churches in the area throughout the years and had a special love for music and dancing. She loved people, cherished animals and loved her little “Shelby.”
In addition to her beloved mother, she is survived by two brothers, Richard Knightson and Eric Knightson; several aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins; other extended family and many friends.

Georgia Lee (Curtis) Buchanan, 82, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. She was born March 23, 1942, in Piggott, Arkansas to the late Hardin and Nora (Adkins) Curtis.
Georgia found her soulmate in Jerry B. Buchanan, and they were married on August 18, 1961, in Kennett, Missouri. Their enduring love story continues through Jerry, who survives to honor her memory.
Georgia was a founding member of the First Church of God in Granite City, Illinois, and remained a steadfast member until its doors closed.
An avid reader, Georgia’s passion for books was second only to the joy she found in the company of her family and friends. The arrival of her grandchildren and great grandchildren penned the most cherished chapters of her life, each moment with them a treasured memory. Georgia’s love for the St. Louis Cardinals was more than just a pastime; it was a passion that rivaled her love for literature. She could recount player statistics with the ease of a seasoned announcer and found a unique joy in muting the television broadcast to let Mike Shannon’s iconic play-by-play on the radio fill the room. This ritual brought the game to life for her, as she visualized every pitch and hit through Shannon’s vivid descriptions. Her enthusiasm for the Cardinals was infectious, making every game day an anticipated event. Georgia’s legacy is etched in the virtues of faith, love, and nurturing care. She will forever be revered as a cherished wife, a loving mother, a doting grandmother, and a caring great-grandmother. Her gentle spirit and compassionate heart have left an indelible imprint on the lives of those she touched. Georgia’s absence creates a void that will be profoundly felt, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who had the privilege to know and love her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hardin and Nora (Adkins) Curtis and her siblings, Peggy Harvester, Delores Bolton, and Bill Curtis.

Billy Ray Aitken, 68, of Pontoon Beach, IL passed away Friday, June 7, 2024 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, IL.
He was born to the late Jack and Luella (Will) Aitken on August 29, 1955 in Peoria, IL. He met Wanda Williams and they were married on October 10, 1979 in Belleville, IL. Bill enjoyed playing pool and darts. He spent time at the Venice Social Club and was always helping other people when they needed it.
Bill is survived by his wife: Wanda Aitken, a daughter: Misty Rae Aitken; a son: Clinton Williams; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a brother: James Aitken; and a sister: Veva Aitken.

Freda Elizabeth Hicks, 105 years of age, of Mitchell, Illinois passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024. Freda was born in St Vincent, Arkansas, on November 20, 1918, to parents William and Josephine Wiedower.
She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings: Joe, Al, Clem, Martha, Pauline, Abby, and Tina as well as her husband, Oscar Hicks (died 1958), and their two sons James Hicks and Willard Hicks.
Freda is now survived by her son Ken (Julie) Hicks and her daughter-in-law Carleen Hicks, each residing in Mitchell, IL. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great- grandchildren Kenny (Debbie) Hicks, Jane Hicks, Jennifer (Robert) Relleke, Vawn (Shawna) Shandy-Hicks, Benjamin Hicks, Nicholas Hobin, Rhett Relleke, Jacob Hicks, Isaac Hobin, Lily Relleke, Aiden Hicks, Samuel Hicks, and Dexter Shandy-Hicks. It must also be mentioned how fond Freda was of her many nieces and nephews.
Freda was a very social woman with a huge circle of friends. She was an excellent dancer, a strategic pinochle player, and a snazzy dresser. Freda raised three boys while working retail- selling shoes for many years at Glik’s Department Store in Granite City, IL. She attended St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Mitchell and then Granite City, IL, for 72 years. It would be difficult to find a bigger fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team than Freda. Concerned about their lack of hitting this season, she was relieved to see them beat the Houston Astros the day before she passed.
Freda’s family and friends will miss her terribly but realize that she lived a long, eventful life. We were lucky to have her with us for as long as we did.

James “Jim” William Eydmann, age 84, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Stearns Nursing and Rehab Center in Granite City, IL. Jim was born on June 7, 1939, in St. Louis, MO, a son of the late Lloyd Eydmann and Floretta (Sexauer) Tellman.
Jim grew up in Affton, MO and went to primary school there and graduated from Bayless High School. He received his higher education degrees from several colleges. Jim was a United States Air Force veteran who proudly served his country with honor. He retired from McDonnell Douglas as a data processor after many years of dedicated service. After retiring, Jim then went to work for Granite City School District, as a school bus driver, and he enjoyed spending time with the children.
He was an active member and board member of the American Youth Hostels in his younger years. Jim was an avid cyclist most of his life, and until recently still road his bike daily in Granite City. He loved to hike, camp and cook in the great outdoors, never anything fancy, always primitive camping. Jim also enjoyed canoeing down the Missouri rivers. Jim was Susan’s best friend, partner and fellow traveler. Together they were blessed to see most of the United States and many countries in Europe and China. Jim will be remembered as a devoted family man who loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Evangelina German Lopez, 82, of Granite City, IL passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at La Bella of Edwardsville surrounded by her family.
She was born in Hidalgo, Mexico to the late Abelardo German and Maria Luisa Benita Lopez Olmedol on May 11, 1942. When she was 66 years old, Evangelina moved from Mexico to the United States to be close to her family. Evangelina was a very religious woman, who stood strong in her Catholic Faith
She was a hard working person who was always helping other people. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, the best at Chinese Checkers and a very creative person. One of her favorite things to do was spoil her granddaughter, Isabella.
Evangelina is survived by a son: Ruben Carranza; daughter in law: Cathy Neidhardt; granddaughter: Isabella Carranza; and a brother Ruben German Lopez.

Michael Roy Grace, 70, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at his home.
He was born March 5, 1954, in Granite City, a son of the late Samuel H. and Stella “Nadine” (Hale) Grace.
He married Gina M. (Prott) Grace on March 20, 1993, in Granite City and she survives.
Michael retired from U.S. Steel in 2004, after 31 years of dedicated service as an electrician with Granite City Steel.
He was a faithful member of Word of Life Tabernacle in Granite City and was a member of the United Steelworkers Local. He enjoyed working on and building computers and always had a home improvement project he was working on. He loved teaching others about God, cherished his grandchildren and devoted his life to his family, church and serving the Lord.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by three children, Jason (Leslie) Grace of Las Vegas, Nevada, Trisha Grace of Festus, Missouri and Adam Grace of Granite City; eight grandchildren, Ryan Scott, Ian Farnam, Lilly Purviance, Ava Purviance, Lucas Grace, Emily Grace, Ethan Grace and Erica Grace; half-brother, George Samuel Grace of Kentucky; half-sister, Judy Davidson of Florida; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
