One of the Oldest Pontoon Beach Buildings Was Torn Down Today

A familiar piece of Pontoon Beach history came down today as the long‑vacant building at 3780 Pontoon Road was demolished. The structure, which had stood since the 1960s, originally housed a local heating and air company that served the community for generations.
For years, the building was home to Comfort Heating & Cooling, later known as Comfort Air Conditioning, one of the area’s early HVAC businesses. It operated out of the Pontoon Road location for decades before eventually closing. After the business shut its doors, Nemo’s Pet Store moved into the building and eventually closed after a fire destroyed the business. The building sat empty and slowly fell into disrepair.

Neighbors watched the property decline over time with broken windows, weather damage, and structural wear made it clear the building had reached the end of its life. Today’s demolition marks the close of a long chapter for a structure many residents remember from their childhoods, commutes, or past service calls.
While the lot will be cleared and quiet, its history as a long‑standing local business remains part of Pontoon Beach’s story. What comes next for the property has not yet been announced, but the removal of the deteriorated structure opens the door for future development along this busy stretch of Pontoon Road.
