Judith M. Schatz, 80 of Sparta, MO and formerly of Granite City, IL passed away on Friday, December 24, 2021 at her home.

Judith was born on April 5, 1941 in Granite City, Illinois; the daughter of the late Homer and Alvina (Meyer) Thurau.

She was a Registered Nurse for various hospitals in the St. Louis area and a congregant of the St. John’s UCC in Granite City. 

Judith was a member of the Germans from Russia Society, as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was very active in genealogy and the tracing of her family lineages.

Judith is survived by 5 children, Sharlyn (Vince) Patten of Normal, IL, Kevin Schatz of Ballwin, MO, Steve Schatz of Chicago, IL, Jay Schatz of Clinton, IL, and Teri (David) Dutko of Glen Carbon, IL; Judith is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Bryan Patten, Breanna Patten, Sadie Dutko, and Edison Dutko.

Judith was laid to rest at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon, IL.


Amanda D. Garnett, 34, of East St. Louis, IL died on Friday, December 31, 2021 at her home.

She was born on June 30, 1987 in Granite City, IL to Thomas Joseph Richardson and Stacey (Garnett) Stewart.

Amanda loved music and also loved animals especially her cat.

Besides her parents, Amanda is survived by a daughter, Audrey Garnett of Wood River, IL; her step father, Larry Stewart of Wood River, IL; a brother, Lawrence Oker of Wood River, IL; a sister, Karry Oker of Wood River, IL; her maternal grandmother, Marcia Koleff of Wood river, IL; Paternal grandparents, Pat and Thomas Richardson of Granite City, IL; aunts, uncles,  nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.


William Charles Loftus, 78, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 8:32 a.m. on Friday, December 31, 2021 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO after a short illness.

He was born September 2, 1943 in Granite City, IL to the late Thomas Joseph & Anna Mae (Mushill) Loftus of Madison, IL.


Bill married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Mejaski on October 16, 1965 at St. Mary’s Church in Madison, IL and she survives.

Bill entered the United States Air Force after his graduation from Madison High School and served from 1961 – 1965. After serving in the Air Force, Bill worked for various companies before landing at May Company, specifically their Venture Stores Division. When Venture Stores went out of business, Bill was fortunate to move back to May Company where he eventually retired after years of dedicated service.

In addition to the love of his life, Bill is survived by 4 children, Helen (Greg) Wood of Collinsville, IL, Michael (Tina) Loftus of Marshfield, MO, Alice Loftus of Granite City, IL and Charles (Melanie) Loftus of Granite City, IL. Bill is also survived by 4 grandchildren who will miss him very much, Chelsea Marie Loftus, Rebecca Emily Loftus, Bradley Michael Loftus & Wyatt Charles Loftus.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, Thomas Loftus, Raymond Loftus, Paula Rae (Loftus) Borg & Patricia (Loftus) Fultz. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Lois Loftus of Lake Jackson, TX, Marie Loftus of Granite City, IL and one brother-in-law, David Borg of Licking, MO. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bill was an active member of St. Elizabeth Parish in Granite City. He was a past member of the St. Elizabeth Finance Council and a long time Money Room volunteer for the Picnic Committee. He coached the St. Elizabeth boy’s basketball team for many years. Bill was one of the first two Lay Eucharist Ministers of the parish. He was a member and past Grand Knight for the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council 1098 in Granite City, IL.

Bill spent his free time feeding the birds (or squirrels…sore subject) in his backyard. He loved spending time outdoors under his tent in his recliner. The perfect afternoon for Bill would be having all his kids and grandkids over for an outdoor barbeque while laughing, telling stories & just being together. He also spent his free time putting together 1000-piece puzzles. His kids enjoyed trying to find challenging ones to keep him busy.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until time of a Funeral Mass at 12:00 noon with Father Alfred Tumwesigye as celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Elizabeth Parish or to the Foundation for Barnes Jewish Hospital – Heart & Vascular.

Jonathan Stephan Hogue, 49, of Granite, IL died on Friday, December 31, 2021 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, IL.

He was born on April 26, 1972 on Granite City, IL to Lupie (Hogue) Hays.

Jonathan is survived by his fiancé, Lisa Hall of Granite City, IL; a brother, Ezekiel Hogue of Hawaii; a sister, Mary Bowles of Granite City, IL; 2 nieces:  Josie Hogue and Brooke Bowles both of Granite City and aunts, uncles and cousins .

Jonathan is preceded in death by his mother.

Flora Ann Rose (Aunt), age 84, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Four Fountains in Belleville, IL.

Flora was born on May 16, 1937 in Granite City, IL, a daughter of the late James L. Walker and Emma M. (Coy) Walker.

Flora retired in 1995 as a pharmacy technician from St. Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City, IL, after forty years of dedicated service.

 On July 19, 2003, Flora Walker married Jerry A. Rose, the love of her life. Flora enjoyed going to church and she had previously attended City Temple Church in Granite City, IL, for many years. Flora currently attends Navigation Church in Collinsville, IL. Her greatest joy was traveling and spending time with her family. Flora loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Flora was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Rose; sister, Gerlene Willoughby; and by two brothers, Troy Walker and James (Fuzzy) Walker.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Harold Walker and Kathleen Nolen Walker of Granite City, IL; nieces, Tara Pope, Heather (Brian) Kulasza and Debbie (Jim) Putman; nephews, Heath (Amanda) Walker, Ed (Sue) Walker, Coleman Willoughby, Wayne (Judy) Willoughby and Duane (Bonnie) Willoughby; many great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family and many wonderful friends.

In celebration of her life, a visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor David Amsden officiating.

Flora will be laid to rest next to her parents at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, IL.

Memorial donations may be given to Autism Awareness, Alzheimer’s Association or Dementia Society of America. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.

Jacqueline Sophia Hackethal, age 90, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Evelyn’s House in Creve Coeur, MO. Jacqueline was born on November 16, 1931 in Granite City, IL, a daughter of the late Jack Hamlett and Bernetta (Debois) Hamlett.

On July 20, 1957, Jacqueline Hamlett married David W. Hackethal, the love of her life in Mitchell, IL and David passed away on May 12, 2010.

Jacqueline was a proud homemaker who cherished spending time with her family. She was also an excellent cook who enjoyed baking and cooking gourmet meals. Jacqueline was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and a dear friend to many. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving children, David (Jennifer) Hackethal of Naples, FL, Charlie (Sheri) Hackethal of Granite City, IL, Jacqueline Becherer of Granite City, IL, Mary Frances Hackethal of Granite City, IL and Dana (Gary) Hagan of Amherst, OH; dear brother, Jerry (Sue) Hamlett of Tallahassee, FL; proud grandmother to nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Debra Kay Nelson, 50, of Granite City, IL died on Wednesday, December 28, 2021 at her home.

She was born on May 29, 1971 in Granite City, IL to J.L. “Pete” Nelson and Olivia (English) Wilson.

The loving daughter and mother is survived by a son, Ryan S. Nelson of Granite City, IL; a grandson, Ryan Thomas James Nelson; a brother, Ron Nelson of Granite City, IL; 2 sisters:  Veronica Nelson of Granite City, IL and Janice (Kirk Bowles) Nelson of Lebanon, IL; her step father, Ron Wilson of Alton, IL and nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Besides her father, Debra is preceded in death by 2 sons:  Joshua Nelson and Jacob Nelson.

Ana Maria Lupardus, 57, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 9:44 p.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville after a courageous battle with complications of covid.

She was born April 9, 1964 in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of Helen (Chambers) Hilsman of Highland and the late David Medina.

She married the love of her life, Dr. Rodney Lupardus on June 11, 1983 in Granite City and he survives.

She was a loving homemaker whom cherished her family. She was a faithful member and enjoyed attending the August Gate Church in Belleville and loved getting together with her Tuesday morning prayer group. Ana adored her grandchildren and had a love for her animals.

In addition to her beloved husband of over 38 years and her mother, she is survived by three children and spouses, Holly Crider of Granite City, Eric and Jessamyn Lupardus of Maryville and Moriah and Chris Grimm of Granite City; seven grandchildren, Benjamin, Leora, Ada, Thomas, Daniel, Eloise and Iris; two brothers and spouses, Michael and Amanda Medina of Highland and David and Shelly Medina of Highland; mother-in-law, Judie Lupardus of Granite City; two brothers-in-laws and spouses, Dr. Rocky and Christine Lupardus of Eureka, Missouri and Randy and Sheila Lupardus of Granite City; a sister-in-law and spouse, Becky and Alan Garis of Granite City; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and many cherished friends.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, John Hilsman.

In celebration of her life, a casual attire gathering will be at Calvary Life Church, 4650 Maryville Road in Granite City on Saturday, January 15, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until time of a service at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Noah Oldham officiating.

Vance William Morgan, 53, of Granite City, IL died on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Creve Couer, MO.

He was born on October 30, 1968 in Granite City, IL to Jerry Lee Morgan, Sr and Carol Ann (Nicol) Morgan.

Vance married Catherine Jordan in Granite City, IL on July 11, 1992.

The loving husband and father was a member of the Mitchell Fire Department and the Long Lake Fire Department. 

He loved cooking and fireworks. Vance was a truck driver for 32 years and owner of Monster Fireworks in Festus, MO.

Besides his wife, Vance is survived by 2 daughters:  Ashley Gardner of Edwardsville, IL and Annette Jordan of Granite City, IL; a son Trevor Morgan & Brooke of Granite City, IL; 13 grandchildren:  Sarah, Colton, Aiden, Bentley, Johnny, Ronnie, Amelia, Zak, Rhy, Christian, Carson, Hunter and Kali and his extended adopted children.

Vance is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Lee Morgan, Jr.

Patricia E. Luchini, 83, of Mitchell, Illinois passed away at 11:43 p.m. on Monday, December 27, 2021 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

She was born June 20, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Jonah and Cora (Bridges) Campbell.

She married William L. Luchini Sr. onJuly 29, 1955 in St. Louis and he passed away on March 1, 2003.

She retired from the Madison County Housing Authority after over 20 years of dedicated service as a housing director.

She enjoyed her days of cross stitching, crocheting and working with ceramics. Patricia cherished her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her entire family and friends.

She is survived by four children and spouses, Tina Worthen of Mitchell, William Luchini Jr. and Trudy of St. Louis, Tammy Cox and Richard of Granite City and Tracy Krug of Granite City; seven grandchildren, Amy Vaughn, Brian Luchini, Amanda Caughron, Emily Gobble, Amber Cox, Ashley Jackson and Rebecca Cox; nine great grandchildren, Rylee, Alexis, Alivia, Amelia, Alex, Jack, Mackenzie, Henrik and Zachary; two sisters, Linda Kass of St. Louis and Roxanna Simily of Frankclay, Missouri; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Jack Krug and Randy Worthen; three brothers, Robert Campbell, Jerry Campbell and Donald Campbell and three sisters, Betty Hughes, Shirley Tebbe and Jane Zeller.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Karla Frost officiating. Family and friends may join at Irwin Chapel on Friday for a 10:00 a.m. procession leaving for Jefferson Barrack National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband.

Dana Marie Warnecke, 48, of South Roxana passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at her home.

She was born July 6, 1973 in Granite City.  She worked at the Alton Belle for 20 years.  Dana enjoyed crafts and gardening.

She was very interested in the paranormal; she would travel with friends to different well known haunted locations.

  She had a love for pigs, especially her pig Basil and collecting anything pig related.

She is survived by a son, Zachary Warnecke (Kari Shipley) of South Roxana; two daughters, Hannah (Caleb) Fuller of Kirbyville, MO and Emily Warnecke (Riley Horman) of Alton; mother, Rebecca (nee: Okai) Minor of Wood River; maternal grandmother, Amelia Okai of Highland; grandchildren, Mason Custer and Olivia Warnecke; sister, Michelle Warnecke of San Diego, CA and boyfriend Michael Crowley of St. Louis.

She was preceded in death by her father, Michael Warnecke; paternal grandparents and a maternal grandfather.

Phyllis Mock, age 75, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021 at Granite Nursing & Rehab Center after a short stay.

Phyllis was born on September 3, 1946 in St. Louis, MO, a daughter of the late Arthur Hattersley Sr. and Beulah Ann (Barlow) Hattersley.

Phyllis was a loving mother, sister, and a dear friend to many. Phyllis worked in the banking industry as a proof operator for forty years. 

 She worked at Mercantile Bank in St. Louis, MO, followed by Boatmen’s Bank which later became Bank of America in St. Louis, MO, and then Union Planters Bank which later became Regions Bank, in Belleville, IL. Phyllis loved working in the yard, so you could always find her outside on a nice day tending to her flowers, cutting grass or just sitting and relaxing on the patio. She also enjoyed scrap booking, playing bingo, watching Hallmark and Lifetime movies, decorating her home for the holidays, and photography. Her greatest joy was spending time with her loving daughter who was the light of her life. Phyllis loved life, loved to laugh, but most of all, she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Laura Mock of Granite City, IL; brother, Arthur (Rebecca) Hattersley Jr., of Eau Claire, WI; extended family and many wonderful friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL.

In celebration of her life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL.

Ryan Scott Shelton, 45, of Bethalto and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 11:25 a.m. on Monday, December 27, 2021 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born February 28, 1976 in St. Louis, a son of Fred E. and Barbara J. (Turner) Shelton of Foley, Alabama.

Ryan was a 1994 graduate of Granite City High School and worked at Zeller Electric in St. Louis as a crane and hoist service manager with 22 years of dedicated service.

He loved his hobbies and boy toys, loved working on and riding his motorcycle. He enjoyed and had a collection of guns and enjoyed cooking and traveling. He was always ready to entertain others, loved the 4th of July and had the greatest fireworks for all to enjoy. Ryan wanted everyone to be happy and enjoy the moment, was goofy and always ready to pull a practical joke on someone. His personality, smile and giving nature will live on through the years and he will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his entire family and many friends.

In addition to his beloved parents, he is survived by his loving fiancé, Jamie Slaten of Bethalto; cherished daughter, Bailey Johnson of Granite City; his stepchildren, Lucas and Elise Slaten; sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Vincent Hogue of Edwardsville; brother and sister-in-law, Timothy and Amanda Shelton of Troy; nieces, Payton, Morgan, Abigail and Lillian; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Karl and Debbie Bowermaster of Hartford; other extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wilbur and Sarah Shelton and Robert and Anna May Turner.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Monday, January 3, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Reverends Karren and Joseph Baker officiating.

Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.

Michael R. Trgovich
Wood River – Michael R. Trgovich, 57, passed away Friday, December 25, 2021.


Born Jan. 22, 1964 in Granite City, he was the son of Michael J. and Judith A. (Taynor) Trgovich.
Mike graduated from Granite City High School, South in 1982 where he was a regional champion and state qualifier in the wrestling program. 

He carried a lifelong love of the sport and encouraged and coached in youth wrestling programs for many years.
He worked for Wieland Brass, formerly Global Brass/Olin Brass. He loved playing pool and was an avid St. Louis Blues hockey fan.
He is survived by his wife, Terrie (Tague) Trgovich of Wood River; two sons, Kristopher (Natalie) Trgovich of Fenton, MO and Matthew Trgovich of Rosewood Heights; two stepsons, William Harshbarger of Bethalto and Ethan Harshbarger of Moro; 6 grandchildren; two sisters, Jennifer (Scott) Wallace of Moro and Molly (Dan) Whitsell of Lebanon, OH; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, December 29 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights.

Vicki “Vic” Lynn Hutchinson, age 52, of Glen Carbon, IL, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at her home. Vic was born on August 5, 1969 in Granite City, IL, a daughter of the late John “Smiley” Vrabec and Marcia (Myler) Wickenhauser.

On April 6, 2002, Vic married Gary Hutchinson, the love of her life in Granite City, IL. She retired as a nurse from Alton State Hospital after many years of dedicated service. Vic was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt and a dear friend to many. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. 

She enjoyed going to the Casino Queen to try her luck. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and her dogs. Vic loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family and her dogs. Vic will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Vic was preceded in death by a brother, David Vrabec; and by one of her beloved dogs, Smoochie.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Gary Hutchinson of Glen Carbon, IL; loving daughter, Hannah Hutchinson of Glen Carbon, IL; dear siblings, Larry Vrabec of Granite City, IL; Kurt (Erin) Wickenhauser of Lawrence, KS and Danielle (Bob) King of Germany; step-father, Tim Wickenhauser of Glen Carbon, IL; beloved dogs, Gizmo, Hazel and Elle; many nieces, nephews, extended family and many wonderful friends.

In celebration of her life, a memorial gathering will be held after the first of the year at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL.

Curtis E. Bosworth, 67 of Troy, Illinois and formerly of Madison, IL, passed away on Friday, December 24, 2021 at his home with his family by his side.

Curtis was born on January 10, 1954 in Granite City; the son of the late Courtland and Billie Jean (Bess) Bosworth. Curtis was a senior clerk in the standard gauge department at Granite City Steel and U.S. Steel retiring after 49 years of service. 

 Curtis was the Past Master of the Granite City Triple Lodge #835 A.F. & A.M., Past and current Master of the Fairview Heights East Lodge #504 A.F. & A.M., a member of the Scottish Rites, Ainad Temple and the Oriental Band Director and Officer for 38 years, Senior Demolay and Legion of Honor and an advisor for the Rainbow Girls East Lodge #504. Curtis served as a Scoutmaster for troop 12, where he mentored 10 Eagle Scouts in 1993 and was selected to be the scout leader for the National Jamboree and was the youth director at First Presbyterian Church in Granite City. In his free time Curtis enjoyed his days of helping his son in his business and spending time with his family and friends.

Curtis is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Emma J. (Whitecotton) Bosworth, whom he married on September 22, 1973; son, Timothy Bosworth and Lisa Marchatti of Collinsville, Illinois; grandchildren, Gabrielle Bosworth of Okawville, Illinois, Alaina Marchatti of Collinsville, Illinois; sisters, Jeanne and William Weidner of Worden, Illinois, Ellen and Marvin Owca of Granite City, Illinois and many other close family members and friends.

In celebration of Curtis’s life, a visitation will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the services at 7:00 p.m. with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon. Bruce Michael Watkins, 73, of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, Illinois.

He was born on September 12, 1948 in Carlinville, Illinois. He was an Army Veteran who served in Korea during the Vietnam War. He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in Iowa and Ranken Technical College in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and amazing Papa.

 Bruce had a keen interest in world history and was a collector of WWII artifacts. His other interests included nineteenth century architecture and antiques, especially clocks, and he loved cycling and playing the piano. He loved his grandchildren dearly and enjoyed spending time with them and hearing about their academic successes and extracurricular activities. Bruce worked at U.S. Steel for 49 years, before retiring in September, 2015 as Crew Coordinator of the Roundhouse.

Bruce is the son of Wilmer and Dorothy (Mefford) Watkins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer and Dorothy, his sister Pamela (Watkins) Vasquez, and nephew Denny Miller.

He is survived and missed by his loving wife Donna (Harper) Watkins of Granite City, Illinois; sister Patricia (Watkins) Meyer of Osceola, Iowa; and children, Stephanie (Watkins) & Graeme Edge of Valrico, Florida; Hilary (Watkins) & Kevin Kasprovich of Centerville, Ohio; and Lisa (Watkins) & Robert Mink III of Granite City, Illinois. Bruce had nine adoring grandchildren: Drew, Drake, and Harper Hubbard (Stephanie); Ethan, Elizabeth, Emma, and Eva Kasprovich (Hilary); and Mary and Henry Mink (Lisa). He is also survived by nieces and nephews Chris, Margo, and Jeff Miller, and Angela (Vasquez) Taylor and Andrea Vasquez, as well as many great nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Evvie Dianna Osborn, 71, of Granite City, IL died on Monday, December 27, 2021 at Granite Nursing & Rehab Center in Granite City, IL.

She was born on February 7, 1950 in Chester, IL to Roy and Mabel Asbury.

Evvie married Lloyd Osborn in Chester, IL on January 28, 1968.

The loving wife and mother enjoyed playing Bingo and crafting.

Besides her husband, Evvie is survived by 2 daughters: Christina (Dean) Sanders of Granite City and Stacy (Shane) Wright of Granite City; a son, Brian (Michelle) Osborn of Bethalto, IL; 5 grandchildren: Kevin Osborn, Lauren Osborn, Sean Wright, Gavin Wright and Collin Sanders; a great grandson, Matthew Osborn and a brother, Russell Asbury of Chester, IL.

Ernest Hugh Edwards, 67, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Sat. Dec. 25, 2021 at his home.

He was born Jan. 13, 1954 in Granite City to Doris Faye (Hoy) Klenke of Granite City and the late Stanley C. Edwards. On May 4, 2012, he and Marcella Rae Ragan were married in Edwardsville, IL.  She preceded him in death Jan. 11, 2018.

Ernie was a US Airforce veteran.  He retired from the National Records Center.

Survivors include 2 daughters: Kelly Rae (Allen) Shepard of Edwardsville and Hollee (Tom) Pinkerton of Granite City; 2 sons: Eric (Marilyn) Edwards and Eron Edwards of Granite City; 2 step-children: Angela Whitesides of MO and Darryll Cooper of FL; 8 grandchildren: Emma, Lucas, Michael, Travis, Tara, Tommy, Karli and Kellen; 5 step-grandchildren: Tyler, Taylor, Brent, Brooke and Cody; 5 great-grandchildren: and 2 sisters: Janice (Carroll) Pigg of KY and Beverly (Tom) Bull of TN.

The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.


Doris J. Masters, 87, of Granite City, IL died at 3:25 a.m. Sat. Dec. 25, 2021 at Lebanon Care Center in Lebanon, IL. She was born Jan. 19, 1934 in Girard, IL to the late Thora Lavena (Peffley) Elllis and Leslie Donohue.

She had been a packer for CPI and loved to play bingo. Surviving are 4 sons: Thomas Daniel Gaines, William R. (Jill) Gaines; Curtis L. Gaines and Darryl W. (Sheryl) Gaines; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Pamela Sparks; 3 brothers: Richard, Bob & Les Donohue; and a sister: Lois Eileen Ellis.

Carol Ann Fletcher, 75, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 9:22 a.m. Thurs. Dec. 23, 2021 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.

She was born Jan. 19, 1946 in Beardstown, IL to the late Carl Raymond & Wilma Ruth (Hiles) Fletcher,

Carol Ann had been a medical office assistant, retiring after 30 years of service.  She was a member of St. Peter’s EUCC.  Carol Ann loved life and greatly enjoyed time with her family and friends.  

She loved being outdoors, gardening, camping, swimming and diving and was quite the cook and seamstress and liked her Yeti cup beers.

She is survived by 3 daughters: Michelle (Joe) Weidner of Pontoon Beach, IL, Denise (Mike) Mayes-Lemons and Amy Hayes of Granite City; a son: John “JB” Wallace of Granite City; 5 grandchildren: Ashley Weidner, Cody Mayes, Trent Kimbel, Hannah Weidner and Troy Kimbel; and 2 great-grandchildren: Elias Joseph and Payzlee Rayne.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harry William Fletcher.

Deborah Rose January 30, 1952 – December 21, 2021. Glen Carbon, Illinois – Deborah Lynn (Oram) Rose, originally of Granite City, Illinois, transitioned peacefully in the arms of her loving husband on Tuesday morning, December 21, 2021, at their home in Glen Carbon, Illinois after a courageous battle with cancer.

“Debbie” as she was affectionately known was born in Granite City, Illinois on January 30, 1952, to Thomas E. and Norma (Statler) Oram, both deceased. 

She graduated from Granite City Senior High School, class of 1970. Debbie retired in June 2015, from Brown & James Law firm, St. Louis, Missouri, as an administrative clerk.
Besides spending time with her family and friends, she had a passion for sewing, reading the Bible (KJV) and sharing her new found knowledge of her Christian faith with others. Debbie had a bright and energetic personality and was known for her ability to sense when people needed her help. She touched many lives with her generosity and passion for life.


Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Larry E. Rose of almost 9 years; her brother, Thomas E. Oram Jr. and his partner Renee of Dillion, MT; daughter, Amy (Burch) Warren and her partner Johnny of Glen Carbon, IL, and their two children: Dominic of St. Louis, MO and Ashley of Glen Carbon, IL; daughter, Gretchen Paolini and her partner Christopher Sr. of Granite City, IL; the Paolini family brought 3 beautiful great grandchildren into the family, Kaden, Archer and Karmen besides being survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins.

John R. Boneau, age 80, of Granite City, IL, formerly of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at his home with his loving family by his side.

John was born on September 19, 1941, in East St. Louis, IL, a son of the late John P. Boneau and Dorothy Jeanne (Prothro) Boneau.

John graduated from Collinsville High School in 1959 and went on to study electrical technology at DeVry University and graduated in 1961.

On June 2, 1962, John married Shirley A. Crane, the love of his life in Granite City, IL, and Shirley passed away on March 3, 2012. He retired as an electrical supervisor from Granite City Steel in 2000, after 38 years of dedicated service. Before becoming a supervisor at the mill, he served as Union President. After retiring in 2000, John owned and operated JB’s Electro-Tech until his passing and worked as a well-respected electrical inspector for The City of Granite City. He also mentored up and coming electricians and instituted a program to help certify/license electricians for The City of Granite City.

As a dedicated father, he coached soccer, baseball, and softball teams during his free time. John was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan, a classic car enthusiast, and moto sports fan. John was also a great cook (BBQ especially) who became a member of the Kansas City Barbeque Society and went on to judge many competitions. Most of all, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. As a proud grandfather, he reveled in all of his grandchildren’s various achievements including college, baseball and softball, motocross events, and law enforcement.

John was the most hardworking, dedicated man who would give anyone the shirt off his back. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. John was a devoted family man who never met a stranger. He loved his family and friends, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving children, John Joseph Boneau Sr., of Worden, IL, Suzanne Y. (Scott Magulick) Mitchel of Lambertville, MI, and Julie A. Minxolli of Naples, FL; loving companion, Marianne Hasick of Granite City, IL; proud grandfather to John J. Boneau Jr., Elizabeth N. Mitchel, Andrew K. Mitchel, Chloe S. Freischmidt, and Van L. John Edward Mullen, 80, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 2:45 a.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at his home.

He was born January 13, 1941 in Steelville, Missouri, a son of the late Harrison and Dorothy (Clonts) Mullen.

He married Nancy (Batson) Mullen on March 18, 1966 at St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City and she survives.

He proudly served his country with the United States Navy and retired in 2004 from Ameren after many years of dedicated service in maintenance.

John was a hobbyist who enjoyed guns, watches, photography and ham radios. Friends and family knew they could count on his help, since he had the ability to repair literally anything. He enjoyed talking and sharing his wisdom with friends, family and even strangers. He was a loyal and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

In addition to his beloved wife of over 55 years, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Sally Mullen of Granite City and Skip and Paulette Mullen of Bloomington; a daughter, Elizabeth Mullen of Granite City; five grandchildren, Melissa Mullen, Corey Mullen, Gavin Mullen, Felix Rials and Latasha Rials; four great grandchildren, Myla, Amore’, Genesis and L’Oreal; twin brother and a sister-in-law, Harrison “Gene” and Jeanne Mullen; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ina Mefford, Clara Wake-Green, Eula Sheehan, Linda and Harold Sanford and Priscilla and Herbert Hays; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

Sheila Barbara Stockton, age 73, of Licking, MO, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Phelps County Hospital in Rolla, MO. Sheila was born on July 11, 1948, in Granite City, IL, a daughter of the late Earl W. Tucker and Marcella B. (Boyer) Tucker.

On May 5, 1995, Sheila married Jimmie Dale Stockton at Wilson Park in Granite City, IL. Sheila was a loving wife, mother, awmaw, sister, aunt, and a dear friend to many. 

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City, IL. Sheila was a former co/owner, dean, and instructor at Granite City School of Beauty Culture. She retired from Illinois American Water and Mitchell Public Water, after many years of dedicated service. Sheila enjoyed dancing, gardening, cooking, and taking care of her cows on the farm. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Sheila loved life; she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Jimmie Dale Stockton of Licking, MO; loving children, Renee’ (Steve) Horvath of Licking, MO, Michelle (Jason) Yates of Caseyville, IL, and Tyler Stockton of Ava, IL; dear siblings, John Tucker of Granite City, IL, and Paula (Lewis) Roberts of Glen Carbon, IL; proud awmaw to Marcella Horvath, Akira Horvath, Amber Miller and Allison Yates; proud great-awmaw to Drayden Love; cousin and best friend, Renee Todaro; faithful companions, Blue and Digger; as well as extended family and many friends.

Cheryl Ann (Huniak) Causey, 66, of Granite City passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.

She was born October 7, 1955 in Granite City, a daughter of the late Nick and Patricia J. (Eck) Huniak.

She married Charles “Chuck” Causey on July 2, 1999 at the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Madison and he survives.

Cheryl retired in 2020 from Building and Zoning at the City Hall in Granite City after 24 years of dedicated service as an accounting clerk.

She was a member of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Madison and was active with the Society of Myrrh Bearing Women. She cherished her family and was an awesome aunt to all. She was always giving to others, ready to help with anything and kind to all. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and many friends.

In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Carol Huniak of Granite City and Nick A. and Diana Huniak of Maryville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Judith “Judy” and Paul Besserman of The Villages, Florida and Patricia “Patty” and Richard Relleke of Granite City; eight nieces and nephews, Nicole, Jessica, David, Nick, Philip, Lauren, Rebecca and Ava; five brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; many nieces and nephews with Chuck’s family; several great nieces and great nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to her beloved parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Gregory “Gary” Huniak and Stephen Joseph Huniak and a nephew, Neil.

George O. Heth III, 72, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 2:44 a.m. on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Stearns Nursing and Rehabilitation in Granite City.

He was born April 26, 1949 in Granite City, a son of the late George O. Heth Jr. and Evelyn (Heizenreder) Heth.

He married the love of his life, Kathleen M. (Preis) Heth on September 10, 1976 and she passed away on September 24, 2008.

George was a college professor, working with the University of Missouri – St. Louis and with St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley and at Meramac.

The United States Air Force veteran proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed reading, watching sports and was a fan of Star Trek. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

He is survived by a son, Jason Heth of Granite City; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Patty and John Ring of St. Jacob and Nancy Heth of New Market, Alabama; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Voss.

Danny D. “Dan” Holmes, 87, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 5:38 a.m. on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville with his wife by his side.

He was born January 21, 1934 in Birch Tree, Missouri, a son of the late Rolla Milton and Madeline (Strain) Holmes. He married Evelyn S. (Wilson) Holmes on December 24, 1963 in Granite City and she survives.

He retired in 1996 from Granite City Steel after 43 years of dedicated service as a steelworker. He proudly served his country with the United States Army. 

Dan was a faithful member of Calvary Life Church in Granite City, loved reading and studying the Bible and served in Royal Rangers as a commander for many years. The highlight of his week was listening to Jimmy Swaggart and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed nature and watching birds. He cherished his family and will be remembered for the love and special time shared with his family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife of 58 years, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Jeff Wiles of Granite City; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Lori Susanne Holmes of Eaton, Ohio; six grandchildren and their spouses, Meagan and Jacob Seemiller, Jeffrey and Stephanie Wiles, Jordan Wiles, Elijah Cunningham, Isaac Cunningham and Isaiah Cunningham; one grandson on the way, Ezra Holmes; two great granddaughters, Hadden and Layna Wiles; a brother, Frank Holmes; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

Lester E. Thompson Jr. 75, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.

He was born October 26, 1946 in Granite City, a son of the late Lester E. and Evelyn (Mullholland) Thompson Sr.

He married the love of his life, Karen (Peach) Thompson on March 11, 1978 at St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City and she survives.

Lester retired from National Steel after many years of dedicated service. The Vietnam War veteran proudly served his country with the United States Army. 

He was the recipient of many medals and ribbons, serving 7 years with honor and courage and having achieved the rank of Captain. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing poker with his friends and was talented working with and building model warplanes. He was an avid sports enthusiast and especially watching baseball and football and enjoyed his days of fishing. He cherished his family and will be remembered for being a wonderful and loving husband, dad and grandpa.

In addition to his beloved wife of 43 years, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kevin Thompson of Granite City and Adam and Paige Thompson of O’Fallon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Courtney Thompson and Kingston and Logan Thompson; other extended family and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Thompson and a sister, Leslie McClure.

JoAnn Franko, 82, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 4:37 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis.

She was born February 23, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Irl Henry Pabst and Edna “Nana” (Davis) King.

She married James A. Franko Sr. on October 24, 1959 and he passed away in 2004.

JoAnn retired from MAPCO in Pontoon Beach after many years of dedicated service as an office manager. She was a member of the Phi Tau Omega ETA Chapter. She was a talented seamstress and a devoted and loving Mom to everyone. 

 She was an avid golfer and enjoyed her days of camping, bowling and working puzzles. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and had many wonderful cruises through the years.

JoAnn is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James A. Franko Jr. and Kimberly; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Awalt and Jeff; three grandchildren, Michael J. Franko, Jessica Witt and Courtney Awalt; a great grandson, Drake Witt; a brother, Charles Pabst; a sister, Patricia Lyerla; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Louie King and a brother, Irl Pabst Jr.

Robin D. Taylor, 55, of Granite City passed away Friday, December 17, 2021 at her home.  She was born June 22, 1966 in Granite City to Donald and Barbara (nee: Hancock) Byrd.  Robin loved her dogs and was avid about her love for animals.

She is survived by two daughters, Michelle Taylor (Timothy Burke) of Granite City and Cassie Taylor of Granite City; son, Donald Taylor of Granite City; grandson, Damian and a sister, Donna Byrd of Las Vegas, NV.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Josephine “Jo” Graham, 95 of Granite City, Illinois passed peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Josephine was born on December 9, 1926 in Livingston, Illinois; the daughter of the late Paul and Violet (Sack) Malench.

Josephine was a beautician who ran her shop out of her home. She was a very active member at St. Peter Evangelical United Church of Christ, where she served as a youth group leader and volunteered her time working church dinners. 

 In her free time Josephine enjoyed her days of hosting holiday gatherings at her home. She was a very talented cook and was known for her crafting and painting abilities and was always up for dancing. Most of all Josephine loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored. Josephine will be remembered for her giving heart and all the special times they shared together.

Josephine is survived by and will be missed by her daughter and son-in-law; Carla and Michael Knott of Collinsville, Illinois; grandchildren, Evan Knott and Ava Knott both of Collinsville, Illinois; sister, Norm Hurbrink; brother, Norman Malench and many other close family members and friends.

Mark J. Malone of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021, with his beloved wife and daughter by his side. Mark had been living with Parkinson’s Disease and Multiple Myeloma for many years.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 25, 1942, to John A. Malone and Jeanne (Hammill) Malone. He grew up with his loving sister, Kathleen Malone, and large extended family. He graduated from La Salle College High School in 1960. A brilliant man and lover of knowledge, he went on to build an impressive educational career, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree at La Salle College in 1964 and a Master of Science in Statistics at Iowa State University in 1967. 

Mark went to work for Scott Air Force Base immediately after graduate school and then in 1970, he was employed as an Operations Research Analyst at Army Aviation Systems Command (AVSCOM) where the focus of his work was on the Black Hawk helicopter and other Army aircraft. His retirement came after working for Boeing in 2011.

Mark embraced life and had a passion for many activities and hobbies. From youth to adulthood, he loved spending summers with his family “down the shore” in Ocean City, NJ. He was fascinated with trains and always took delight in adding to his model train collection (eventually passing that love onto his grandchildren). Mark was a dedicated member of the St. Louis Genealogy Society and received recognition for his extensive research and presentations for the Irish Special Interest Group. He also thoroughly enjoyed watching baseball and basketball games, musicals at the Fox Theater, ice cream, classical piano music performed by his daughter, visiting museums, travelling with his wife, and captured moments with his grandchildren. Devout in his Catholic faith, he was a longtime member of the congregation of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City, IL.

His proudest achievement was his devoted and loving family. He leaves behind and is mourned deeply by his wife of 48 years, Carole (Cuchna) Malone; his daughter, Andrea (Malone) Yurcisin and her husband Dr. Basil M. Yurcisin. He is survived, as well, by three beautiful grandchildren whom he absolutely adored. They are Adelaide, Harrison, and Lennon Yurcisin. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Malone of Philadelphia, PA.

He will always be remembered for his gentle soul, his warm smile, his dedication to his career, and the absolute love for his family.

There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Church in Granite City. Visitation will be at 9:00 am with a mass to follow at 10:00 am. The family invites you to a funeral luncheon following at 12:00pm at Bella Milano in Edwardsville, IL. The family kindly asks that anyone in attendance at any event to please wear a mask.

Joseph “Bob” Robert Ponce, 83, of Edwardsville, Illinois passed away at 10:04pm on December 17, 2021 at the age of 83. He was born on June 11, 1938 in Venice Illinois to Joseph and Nicoletta (Lena) Ponce.

He was one of eight children who learned to rely on each other when times were tough. They were a Gold Star family having lost a sibling in WWII.

Bob attended Venice (IL) High School where he met the love of his life Ina Mae (Cockrill) Ponce. Bob and Ina married on September 5, 1959 and would go on to spend the next 62 years together. After marriage Bob graduated from Saint Louis University in 1961 with a Civil Engineering degree. He worked at the Illinois Department of Transportation until he retired.

Bob and Ina had 5 children: Cathy, Danny, Patty (Stanley), Janet (Shrodes) and Tony; in-laws: Julie Ponce, Chris Stanley, Bruce Shrodes; 12 grandchildren: Jason Claude, Christina Claude, Jocelyn Claude, Tommy Ponce, Jeff Ponce, Caty Happe, Zachary Ward, Maddy Ward, Ashlei Greathouse, Brenden Ponce, Mitchell Ponce, Amanda Ponce; 8 great grandchildren: Roxy, Mabel Kevin, Madison, Gracie, Kylie, Levi and Luke. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Pete Fields and other extended family and friends.

Bob loved life and most enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family members, and friends. Always on the go and willing to do anything. Bob greeted everyone with a warm loving smile, infectious laugh, genuine kindness, and a warm heart that drew family and friends to him. He was extremely loved and adored by all that knew him.

Peter J. “Pops” Marlin, 78, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 3:40 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois.

He was born August 7, 1943 in Abington, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Orville and Emily (Worthington) Marlin and spent the first 18 years of his life in Prospect, Pennsylvania.

He married Deborah L. (Bennett) Black-Marlin on October 23, 2009 and she survives.

The United States Vietnam veteran proudly served his country with 20 years of service with the Navy and retired in 1981. Peter had served as a Parachute Rigger and was the recipient of many awards, ribbons, commendations and medals. 

After his retirement with the Navy, he started his 35 year career as a truck driver. He enjoyed his many years traveling the roads, most South to warmer weather. He owned and operated Marlin Trucking and drove for several companies, ending with Quality Carriers. He was a member of the American Legion, AMVETS and a Parachute Riggers Association. He had a love for history, was fascinated with birds and wildlife and had a very deep love for old country and bluegrass music. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends and truly enjoyed family gatherings through the years.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by the kids, Ashley Black of Granite City, Joseph Craig Black of Granite City, Kourtney Black-Miller of Granite City, David Black of Sesser and Erin “Princess” Black of Granite City; ten grandchildren, Sofia, Merina, Miranda, Myrabel, Madux, Kinsleigh, Jensen, Bentlee, Brandon and California; a brother, Mike Marlin; two sisters, Emily Marlin and Mary Brickman; two special friends, Fred Kemp and Ron Heiman; many nieces; nephews; cousins; other extended family and friends.

In celebration of his life, a graveside service with full military rites will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 11:30 a.m..

Daniel Naglich, 80, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 10:44 p.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

He was born May 11, 1941 in Granite City, a son of the late Sam and Frances (Modrusic) Naglich.

He retired from American Steel after many years of dedicated service and had also served as a bartender at the Croatian Home Lodge 222 in Madison for many years. 

 The United States Navy veteran proudly served his country and was a member of the AMVETS Post #204. He was a fan of the St. Louis Blues and enjoyed his days of fishing, bowling and drinking a beer. Dan was very social to all and will be remembered for the love, laughs and good times shared with his family and many friends.

In addition to his beloved parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Mandy and Harold “Pete” Hinckley and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Joe Naglich and Sam and Dolores Naglich.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Dee Naglich of Worden; many special nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; other extended family and friends.

In celebration of his life, a visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Thursday, December 23, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until time of a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Father Jeff Holtman officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.

Our Beloved, Patricia Lynn Planitz, age 52, joined Heaven’s Angels November 28, 2021 after a long battle with cancer.

Trish was born July 24, 1969 in Granite City, Illinois to James and Sheryl Planitz. She resided there until the age of seven when the family moved to Decatur, Illinois, where she graduated from Eisenhower High School and later moved to Tennessee where she resided with her life partner Linda Scott.

Trish was most comfortable in her kitchen cooking and spending time with her dog. She was a gifted writer, cook, decorator, and landscape artist. She enjoyed music, nature, laughter, animals and life.

Surviving her is her life partner of 17 years, Linda Scott, her mother Sheryl England, sister Shelly Anderson and Steve Spent, three half brothers, Sam Sanders, Jimmy and Joey Planitz, aunts Carol Norton and Rebecca Wills Sparks, extended family and friends.

A private celebration of life ceremony was held December 11, 2021 at her home in Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers, Patricia and family request donations be made in her memory to the Cancer Society or your local animal shelter.

Xada Burnett, 17, of Granite City, IL died on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

She was born on February 3, 2004 in Granite City, IL to Leanna Smelser.

The loving daughter was a senior at Granite City High School.  She enjoyed making people laugh and dancing. Xada loved makeup and music.

Besides her mother, Xada is survived by a brother, Xander Burnett of Granite City; a sister, Bethany Biggs of Granite City; her mother’s boyfriend, Jose Salas of Granite City; step father, Josh Allen of Granite City; step mother, Stephanie Ybarra of Granite City; maternal grandparents, Cristy and Laura Smelser of Granite City and paternal grandmother, Linda Jovi of Rosewood Heights, IL. 

Also surviving are a paternal great grandmother, Judy Jovi of Rosewood Heights, IL; grandmother, Wanda Allen of Granite City; grandparents, Karen and Dan Krankel of Brighton, IL and many loving and amazing aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Xada is also survived by her biological father, Joseph Burnett.

Xada is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Rick Smelser Sr.

Steven “Steve” Aaron Miller Sr., age 61 of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Depaul Hospital in Bridgeton, MO. Steve was born on February 18, 1960 in Granite City, IL, a son of the late Edward Joseph Miller and Edith Harriet (Braden) Miller.

Steve was a United States Navy Veteran and United States Army Veteran who proudly served his country. On December 24, 2019, Steve married Cathy Wilson in Branson, MO. 

Steve retired as an electrician in 2017 from Granite City Steel after many years of dedicated service. He was a member of the American Legion in Alton, IL and an Auxiliary member of the Collinsville V.F.W. Steve was also a talented singer who enjoyed singing with the Master Voice Choir and singing karaoke. His greatest joy was spending time with his family whom he loved dearly. Steve was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and a friend to many. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by one sister, Julianna Wizer; and by two brothers, Frederick Miller and Gregory Miller.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Cathy Wilson of Granite City, IL; loving children, Kara (Dennis) Pinero of Madison, IL, Steven (Helen) Miller III of Granite City, IL and Kasey (Jayson) Carmen of Granite City, IL; step-children, Courtney (Bill) Morillo of Maryland Heights, MO and Sean Mottin of Branson, MO; siblings, Donald (Sandy) Miller, Janet Miller, Lois (Steve) Kramer, Joan (Tim) Wall and Mark Miller; proud grandfather to Alyssa, Hailey, Hanabel, Sarah, Christian and Nathan; proud great-grandfather to Karlee and Lilly; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Isabelle A. Vartan, 98 of Granite City, Illinois passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Sunday, December 12, 2021.

Isabelle was born on July 16, 1923 in Granite City; the daughter of the late Avedis and Ankin (Tatoian) Parsaghian. Isabelle was a medical secretary for 30 years at the Granite City Army Depot, retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Gregory Armenian Church in Granite City where she active in the Ladies Guild and served as president of the Armenian Relief Society.

 In her free time she enjoyed her days of spending time with her family and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.

Isabelle is survived by and will be missed by her children; Charles Vartan Jr. of Granite City, Illinois, Ken Vartan of Anchorage, Alaska, Rebecca and Paul Willhoft of Webster Groves, Missouri; grandchildren, Kwan Willhoft and Sam Vartan and many other close family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Isabelle was preceded in death by her husband of 13 years; Charles Vartan Sr.; sisters, Rose Hagopian, Helen Abbott; brother, Evon Parsaghian.

Rose Marie Bauer, 95, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 9:23 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at University Care Center in Edwardsville.

She was born August 21, 1926 in Granite City, a daughter of the late Cyrus and Alma (Thielker) Walker.

She married Richard C.A. Bauer on April 16, 1946 and he passed away on March 24, 2014.

She was a devoted and loving wife of a farmer. Rose was a faithful member of St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City where she was active with the Evening Guild and served as a past Sunday school teacher.

The Bauer family was very supportive to the Tri Cities Area Association for Handicapped and enjoyed her years on the bowling league and working with Special Olympics and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

She is survived b y a son, Richard P. Bauer of Granite City; granddaughter, Jessica Bauer of Granite City; great grandchildren, Taylor Milam, MaKayla Bauer and Jesalin Bauer; great-great grandchildren, Everleigh, Vivian and Hadley many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda M. Bauer and a brother, Cyrus Walker.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.

Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ, Muscular Dystrophy or to the Alzheimer’s Association and may be accepted at the funeral home. 


Judy A. Modrusic, 74, of Granite City and formerly of Venice, Illinois passed away at 6:32 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2021 at her home.

She was born January 27, 1947 in Granite City, a daughter of the late Harold E. and Catherine (Mangiaracino) Buechele.

Judy was a self employed beautician with over 40 years of service to her many friends and customers. She was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City and a longtime member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Venice. 

 She was also a member of the Venice Social Club, American Legion Post #307 Auxiliary in Venice where she was active with the the Color Guard and the AMVETS Post #204 Auxiliary in Madison.

In addition to her beloved husband, Nick Modrusic, she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Nick and Kim Modrusic of Swansea and Chris and Shauna Modrusic of Pontoon Beach; four grandchildren, Emily, Taylor and McKenna Modrusic and Gaven Modrusic; sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Andy Modrusic of Granite City; brother, Ron Buechele of St. Louis; her loving dog, Maddie; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

In celebration of her life, Memorial visitation will be at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until time of a Funeral Mass at 12:00 noon with Father Alfred Tumwesigye as celebrant.

Deborah Diane “Nanny” Bishop, age 68, of Alhambra, IL, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021 at her home with her loving family by her side.

Deborah was born on May 2, 1953 in Granite City, IL, a daughter of the late Willie Hunt and Ruth (Singleton) Stamper.

Deborah was a loving mother, fiancé, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and a dear friend to many. 

She never met a stranger and she was always willing to lend a helping hand. Deborah was known as Nanny to everyone who knew her. She took pride in helping raise her grandchildren, nieces, nephews and even the neighborhood children. Deborah also enjoyed cooking, making crafts, shopping for a bargain, and swimming in Michelle and Ron’s pool on a hot summer day. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Deborah was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Eugene Bishop Sr.; and by her brother, Randall Hunt.

She is survived by her loving children, Michelle (Ron) Cooper of Edwardsville, IL and Michael Bishop Jr. of Cherryville, MO; fiancé, Buddy Hafner of Alhambra, IL; dear sisters, Linda (Wayne) Pickett of Bourbon, MO, Wanda (Tiff) Knowlton of Bourbon, MO and Sandra Murray of Granite City, IL; proud grandma to Ashlynn Bishop, Austin Bishop, Brittany Cooper and Brianna Cooper; proud great-grandma to Landon and Oliver; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and extended family and wonderful friends.

Elsie M. Flach, 94 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois.

Elsie was born on September 7, 1927 in Madison, Illinois; the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Drozda) Sabol.

Elsie was a homemaker and mom who was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City. 

 Elsie enjoyed her days of working puzzles, baking cakes for her family and friends, playing Bingo and was always ready to play slots wherever she could. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.

Elsie is survived by and will be missed by her daughters; Donna and Larry Denton of Collinsville, Illinois, Judy and Dennis Atwell of Troy, Illinois, Carol Baczewski of Carlyle, Illinois, Marie and David Kerwin of Mascoutah, Illinois; grandchildren, Joseph and Kristen Tutka, Kimberly and Andy Bruhn, Mary and Shawn Vance, Amanda and Ben Lowry, Lynn Denton, Keith and Sarah Atwell, Jennifer Mutschler; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Myrda and Helen O’Guin.

Helen Arlene Parnell, age 75, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at her home with her loving family by her side. Helen was born on May 28, 1946 in Granite City, IL.

On May 21, 1965, Helen Cox married Delbert Parnell, the love of her life in St. Louis, MO.

Helen retired from the clerical department at Lanter Distributing Company after many years of dedicated service. 

She attended Maryville Baptist Church. Helen enjoyed going shopping, camping and fishing. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Helen was a loving daughter, wife, mother, granny, sister, aunt and a dear friend to many. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Helen was preceded in death by her father, Hubert Cox; step-father, Walter Shaw; and by a son-in-law, Michael Kafka.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Delbert Parnell of Granite City, IL; dear mother, Marie Cox of Collinsville, IL; loving children, Jeff Parnell of Granite City, IL and Michelle (Stephen) Watson of Collinsville, IL; brother, Kenny (Janice) Cox of Edwardsville, IL; proud granny to Jonathan Kafka, Faith Kafka, Jacob Watson, Nathan Parnell and Megan Parnell; nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Todd Andrew “Chief” Horvath, 56 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

Todd was born on March 30, 1965 in Granite City; the son of Julius Horvath of Granite City and the late Betty Jo (LeVault) Horvath.

Todd was a RV Technician for Colman’s Campers in Hartford, Illinois. Todd enjoyed mud trucks and had a special love of all animals, especially goats, which sometimes could be found on the roof of his house. 

Todd loved spending time at the beach and his farm ever chance he got. He was a handyman that could fix anything and was a dedicated family man who adored his grandchildren. Todd never met a stranger when he was out and married the love of his life, Teresa on October 14, 1988 always putting her first. Todd was giving even in death by giving the gift of life to others in need. Todd will be remembered for putting his family and other people’s needs before his own and all the many special times he shared with his family and friends.

In addition to his dad, Todd is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Teresa (Murphy) Horvath; daughters, Nicole and Cory Armbruster of Granite City, Illinois, Dawn Horvath of Granite City, Illinois; son, Andrew and Jessica Horvath of Granite City, Illinois; grandchildren, Donald Armbruster, Christian Armbruster, Lucas Armbruster, Ryleigh Horvath; special nephew, Devyn Horvath; brothers, Damon Horvath, Mark and Cindy Horvath, Derek Horvath; sister, Joetta Horvath and many other close nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.

Timothy Dale Flynn Jr. of Maryville, IL, passed away peacfully on December 10th, 2021, at the very young age of 21 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. where he had been since a tragic work accident on October the 5th.

Timothy spent sixty-five days fighting the best he could but his injuries proved to be too much to recover from.

Timothy is survived by his parents; Timothy D. Flynn Sr. of Granite City, IL. and Elizabeth A. Duncan of Maryville, IL. One brother, Thomas B. Hoyt of Maryville, IL. His loving grandparents; Nina and Elmer Jackson, Charlotte and Mike Dixon all of Granite City, IL., Susan Moyers Flynn of Edwardsville, IL. His beloved girlfriend, Amelia Mason of Farmington, MO.
He was preceded in death by his grandpa Joe Flynn of Edwardsville, IL. His great grandma, Margaret Marie Veach of Opdyke, IL.

Timothy achieved many great things in his short time here, one of his proudest achievements was his Eagle Scout Rank and graduating from Lincoln Tech in Indianapolis, IN. with a degree in Diesel Technology and was employed as a diesel mechanic at Armor Equipment in Arnold, MO. fulfilling his life dreams. Timothy enjoyed turning wrenches and also enjoyed everything outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, boating with family and friends. He was always there to liven the moment and help wherever he could. His untimely death will leave a hole in our hearts and he will be greatly missed by everyone who ever met him.

Visitation for Timothy will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of Timothy’s life, services will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Maynard officiating. Dianne M. Baker, age 83, of Troy, IL, formerly of Mitchell, IL, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021 at Aspen Creek Assisted Living in Troy, IL. Dianne was born on June 8, 1938 in State Park Place, IL, a daughter of the late Frank Sellers and Stella (Konieczny) Sellers.

On October 21, 1967, Dianne Sellers married James “Jim” Baker, the love of her life and Jim passed away on February 13, 2002. Dianne was a faithful member of Nameoki United Methodist Church in Granite City, IL.

She retired as a clerk from Chouteau Township after many years of dedicated service. Dianne was the past president and past vice president of PTA at Mitchell School District. She was also a Girl Scout leader for ten years. Dianne was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a friend to many. She never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She loved Cardinal Baseball and eating ice cream and frozen custard. Her favorite was Bobby’s Frozen Custard in Maryville, IL. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Dianne loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dianne was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Sellers.

Ronald “Ron” Eugene Gibson, age 69, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021 at his home with his loving family by his side. Ron was born on July 14, 1952 in Granite City, IL, a son of the late William Walter Gibson and Ruby Lee (Payne) Gibson.

On December 5, 1970, Ron married Wanda Gibbs, the love of his life in St. Louis, MO. Ron was a faithful member of Calvary Life Church in Granite City, IL. 

 He retired from the receiving department at Spectralite Consortium after many years of dedicated service. After retiring the first time, Ron decided to go back to work as a bus driver for MCT Transit, where he was the head steward for the union. Ron loved going to church to serve the Lord. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Ron especially cherished every moment he spent with his granddaughter, niece, nephew, great nephew and great-nieces. Ron will be remembered as a devoted family man who loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by two brothers, Tommy Walter Gibson and Larry “Odie” Gibson; and by his sister, Brenda Kay Gibson.

Ron is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Wanda Gibson of Granite City, IL; loving children, Jennifer Gibson and Ronald Gibson II, both of Granite City, IL; proud grandfather to Andrea Gibson; god child, Kara Fitzgibbons; brother, William Lee (Lori) Gibson of Edwardsville, IL; nephew, Eric (Jess) Gibson; niece, Carli (Ryan) Giger; great-nephew, Billy Woods; great-nieces, Merin Gibson and Madison Giger; extended family and many wonderful friends.

Irene E. Douglas, 79 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland.

Irene was born on August 22, 1942 in Granite City, Illinois; the daughter of the late Warren and Virdie (Smith) Gruggett.

Irene was a door greeter at the Granite City Walmart and in her free time Irene enjoyed her days of reading and watching movies. She was a woman of Christian faith who loved spending time with her family and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.

Irene is survived by and will be missed by her children; Dennis Douglas of Granite City, Illinois, Ty and Stephanie Douglas of Granite City, Illinois, Kim and Todd Crawford of Polo, Missouri; grandchildren, Robbin Crawford, Cora Douglas, Grace Douglas.
In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Marvin Douglas.

Anna Mae Baker, 78, of Granite City. IL., passed away in her home Thursday, December 9, 2021 surrounded by her family.

Anna was born to the late General Taylor and Mary (Bloomfield) Cooper on July 20, 1943 in Portsmouth, Ohio.

She married Roy Baker on May 14, 1994 in Edwardsville, IL, he precedes her in death.

Anna was a member of The Vine Community Church in Cottage Hills, IL. She enjoyed watching Cardinal’s Baseball, traveling, spending time and making memories with her friends and family; and enjoyed buying and selling antiques, which she made into her career.

She is survived by 2 daughters; Teresa (Jeff) Lewis and Cindy Davis: 2 sons; Rusty (Teri) Davis, Gary Davis: 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren: 2 brothers; Don (Carol) Cooper, Gary (Cinda) Cooper: 3 sisters; Alma Wolfe, Betty McNamera and Vickie Bell.

Besides her husband and parents Anna is preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters and a daughter-in-law, Beth Davis.

Sherry Lynn Wasson, age 58, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in O’Fallon, IL. Sherry was born on March 18, 1963 in Logan W.V., a daughter of the late Harles B. Carlise and Eunice Carlise.

On May 18, 2002, Sherry married Wayne “Alan” Wasson in Granite City, IL. Sherry had worked as a geriatric nurse at several area nursing homes for many years. She was an avid St. Louis Blues Hockey fan and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan. 

She enjoyed going to home games and watching them play on tv. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Sherry loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved and cherished her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Sherry was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Leiman Prater.

She is survived by her devoted husband of nineteen years, Alan Wasson of Granite City, IL; loving children, Charles Edward Hall II of Charleston, WV, Crystal Renee (Darren) Hall of Barnhart, MO and Collin Dale (Brieanna) Wasson of Donnellson, IL; proud grandmother to six grandchildren; extended family and many wonderful friends.

Jimmie B. Brewer, 95, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 11:08 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Gateway Regional Medical Center.

He was born May 25, 1926, in Pikeville, Kentucky, a son of the late James and Grace (Marrs) Brewer.

He married Joan (Summers) Brewer on March 8, 1947 in Madison, Illinois and she passed away on July 18, 2019.

The United States Army veteran proudly served his country during World War II, served as a Master Chef and was the recipient of several awards and ribbons.

He had worked on the railroad with over 50 years of dedicated service, retiring in 1991 from Norfolk and Southern Railroad as a car inspector. He had also worked with Nickel Plate Railroad and Norfolk and Western Railroad.

During the earlier years, he also loved working with Jack Hart Used Cars. He had a keen eye for a good deal, loved inspecting, purchasing and selling many cars throughout the years.

Jimmie was a member of the Granite City Masonic Lodge and served the State of Kentucky as a Kentucky Colonel. He loved tending to his immaculate yard, loved mowing his grass and working endlessly in his garden producing many vegetables for all to enjoy. Daily trips up the River Road and crossing the ferry to Hardin was his way to take in God’s coloring book with every changing season. He also enjoyed his days of fishing and hunting, loved grandma’s chocolate pie, Reese’s peanut butter cups and was always sharing his salted Fritos.

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Smith of Granite City; his son, Dennis Brewer of Godfrey; four grandchildren and their spouses, Todd and Shawnette Smith of Granite City, Kara and Troy Fisher of Godfrey, Stacey and Tony Goodman of Pocahontas and Dustin and Jessica Brewer of Granite City; six great grandchildren, Devin Turner, Mackenzie Fisher, Anna Brewer, Evan Brewer, Anthony Goodman and Justin Fisher; two great-great grandchildren, Kynzlee and Taelyn Fisher; a sister-in-law, Priscilla Brewer; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife of 71 years and parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Donald Smith; a daughter-in-law, Diane Brewer; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Frederick and Marge Brewer and Dick Brewer and a sister and brother-in-law, Katheryn and Dial Mullins.

Charles Alan Rickert, Sr., 57, of Granite City, IL passed away on Wednesday, December 8th, 2021.
He was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alton, IL on Aug 26th, 1964 to Brenda Ann (Owens) and the late Thomas Rickert.

He married Debra Frazier on April 11, 1992 in Granite City, IL He was a life-long resident of and attended school in Granite City, IL. He spent many years working at Metro East Industries in Alorton, IL.

Charles loved spending time with his family and often gave heartfelt speeches at family gatherings. He enjoyed music, John Wayne movies and making Birdhouses. He had a green thumb and loved gardening and tending to his lawn. He loved being outdoors and especially near water. He had a unique sense of humor and liked telling jokes. Most of all, Charles adored his Grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Aside from his wife, Debra, Charles is survived by; 2 sons: Brandon (Katie Seib) Fisk of Collisville, Charles Rickert Jr. of Granite City; 3 Grandchildren: Jocelynn Fisk, Jesse Fuentes, Leela Fisk; a brother: Kent (Lyn Watts) Owens of Nashville, IL; 3 sisters: Constance Colyott of Vanburen, MO, Britta (Joseph Chinchock) Fernandes of Belleville, IL, Toni Owens of Glen Carbon, IL; his step-father: George Nord; 2 aunts Cathy (Terry) Williams, Charlotte Kipp; aunt and godmother: Nancy (June) Phillips; 4 nieces; 1 nephew; 3 great nieces; 4 great nephews; and 3 nephew-in-laws.

Anna Osborn, age 92, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Stearns Nursing and Rehab in Granite City, IL. Anna was born on October 10, 1929 in Meta, Missouri, a daughter of the late Willard Ripka and Nora (Fitzpatrick) Ripka.

On April 14, 1956, Anna Ripka married Billy J. Osborn, the love of her life and Billy passed away on September 26, 1997. Anna was a faithful member of Central Christian Church in Granite City, IL.

In addition to her parents and husband, Anna was preceded in death by her sister, Judith Hornsby; and by three brothers, Willard Ripka, Marshall Ripka and Ammuel Ripka.

She is survived by her loving sons, Jay Osborn and Tammy Poarch of Granite City, IL and Gary and Mary Osborn of Selma, TX; dear brother, Willard (Virginia) Ripka of Granite City, IL; proud grandmother to Sarah; sisters-in-law, Virginia Ripka, Mary Lou Ripka and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Wanda Louise Schweitzer, age 92, of Collinsville, IL (formerly of Granite City), passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021 at Memorial Hospital East in Shiloh, IL. Wanda was born on October 9, 1929 in Venice, IL, a daughter of the late Edward Ziegler, Sr. and Mamie (St. Gemme) Cole.

On January 19, 1958, Wanda married Charles “Chuck” Schweitzer in Madison, IL, and Chuck passed away on April 10, 1992. Wanda was a proud homemaker and caregiver who loved taking care of her family. She enjoyed working in the yard, going to yard sales, playing bingo and putting jigsaw puzzles together. 

 Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Wanda loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her step-father, William Cole; siblings, Dorothy Martin, Edward Ziegler, Jr., Paul Ziegler; and by her son-in-law, Paul Clark.

Ronald Lee Stephens, 67, of Granite City died at 1:48 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2021, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL. He was born on January 15, 1954 in Granite City, IL.

Ronnie was cabinet maker professionally and a fisherman at heart. He loved fishing with his children and grandchildren and always enjoyed a hot cup of coffee while swinging on his front porch.

He is survived by his wife, Tracy (Mason) Stephens; Three sons, Ronald Bradlee Stephens, Adam Lee Brice, and Preston Blake Stephens; three daughters, Amanda Christine Stephens, Kristie Marie Glass, and Jamie Lee Ann Stephens, all of Granite City, IL; Three brothers, Dale Stephens, Robert Stephens, and Richard Stephens; one sister, Connie Adams; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie Lee Stephens and Fern (Corbett) Stephens, and two brothers Larry and Edward Stephens.

Robert Maxwell was born on October 23, 1943 in Granite City, IL, a son of the late Finley Maxwell and Evelyn (Davis) Maxwell.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Jean (Luschnig) Maxwell of Crossville, TN.

Robert “Butch” Wojtowicz, 70, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 11:06 a.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at his home.

He was born January 23, 1951 in DuBois, Illinois, a son of the late John and Otillia (Hoffman) Wojtowicz.

He married Barbara J. (Hensel) Wojtowicz on January 18, 2003 at the Affton Presbyterian Church in Affton, Missouri and she survives.

 He had worked for Illinois Terminal and Norfolk and Southern Railroad with 18 years of dedicated service as a railroad carman. He had also served as the director of Christmas in April for several years. The Granite City High School graduate was with the Class of 1969 and was a member of the Granite City Elks Lodge. He had a love for horses, enjoyed his early days of playing baseball and loved a day of fishing. Butch will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Kathy Wojtowicz of Granite City; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Allan Cochran of Glen Carbon; four grandchildren, Ann Wojtowicz, Jon Wojtowicz, Delaney Cochran and Harper Cochran; two great grandchildren, Trevor Rivenburgh and Carson Miller; a sister and brother-in-law, Marcella and Orland Haun of Marion; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin brothers, Herman and Henry Wojtowicz.

Derrell A. Brame Jr., 90, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 12:27 p.m. on Monday, December 6, 2021 at Liberty Village in Maryville.

He was born August 26, 1931 in Drumright, Oklahoma, a son of the late Derrell A. and Thelma C. (Haught) Brame Sr.

He married Phyllis M. (Hendricks) Brame on June 20, 1954 at the Naval Base in Alameda, California and she passed away on February 22, 2011.

The United States Navy veteran proudly served his country as an aerial photographer. He retired as the principal of the grade school with the Carlyle Community Unit School District #1. Derrell had served many years in education as a teacher with several school districts throughout the years. After his retirement, he enjoyed several years as an over the road truck driver. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Granite City and had been a longtime faithful member of the Carlyle Christian Church where he had served as an elder.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Derrell and Cindee Brame of Granite City; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas B. Brame and David A. Brame and two sisters, Donna Tate and Kate Clark.

In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be held at the Central Christian Church, 2020 Johnson Road in Granite City on Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Derrell Brame officiating. Private family burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery in Salem, Illinois.

Grace Lusicic– born Gracia Giovanna Patrico, resides forevermore with her loving heavenly Father. No doubt, the love of her life, Ivan, greeted her as she entered heaven, along with a great cloud of witnesses who went before her.
She was born in St Louis, where she grew up and went to Normandy high school. She married Ivan Hubert Lusicic in 1948. A little over a year later she had her first child Michael. 

She then was certified as a comptometrist, and worked in this field for much of her adult life. In 1952, she had her second son Daniel. All who have known her would testify that she spent her life deeply loving and devoted to God and to her family and friends. She taught music along with Ivan to the Happy Strings Tambura in Granite City and was recognized by the Tambura Association of America (TAA) as one of the Women of Tambura. She served her church well, always making memorable meals for gatherings of various kinds, and praying over the prayer requests.

Her home was the center for family gatherings and holiday celebrations. She will be sorely missed.

Carmen Huff 62, of Granite City passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.  She was born November 4, 1959 in Granite City to Kenneth F White Sr. and Edna “Tillie” Sharon (nee: Leibold) White. She married Kelly L. Huff January 7, 1995; he preceded her in death February 17, 2011.   She was a member of Calvary Life.  She was affectionately called “Nana Garfield”.

She is survived by her daughter, Sarah K. (Lavelle) Pierson; son, Teddy (Sarah E.) Graham, six grandchildren, Elizabethe, Jonathan, Jeremiah, Serenity, Kenneth and Jayden; brothers, Kenneth “Rusty” (Maria) White Jr and Fred (Vickie) White; four sisters, Sharon (Walter) Westbrook, Susan Cochran, Julia “Jill” (Matt) Strodtman and Trudy Schaefer and niece, Crystal (Richard) Pool.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; brother, James Riley White and sister, Juanita Jean White.

Gina A. Wilkinson, 61 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on December 2, 2021 at her home in Granite City.
Gina was born on August 23, 1961 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois; the daughter of Mary (Hammonds) Piacentini and the late Raymond Piacentini.

Gina was a counter associate at McDonalds and enjoyed her days of spending time with her family and friends and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.

In addition to her mom, Gina is survived by and will be missed by her children; Justin Fosnock of Collinsville, Illinois, Stephanie Scott og Granite City, Illinois; brother, Don and Jackie Casey of Freeburg, Illinois; sister, Janet and Charles Pearre of Rock Wall, Texas; sister-in-law, Traci and Danny Casey of O’Fallon, Illinois and numerous grandchildren and other close family members and friends.

In celebration of Gina’s life, a family celebration is being planned for a later date.

Granite City—Timothy B. Warren, 64, passed away at 4:29 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville as a result of cardiac arrest.

Born Nov. 11, 1957 in Advance, MO, he was a son of Oshall and Betty (Wills) Warren.

He married Sherry Monroe in 1977 in Granite City.  She survives.

Tim worked as a handyman for many years.  He loved spending time with his family, riding motorcycles and playing golf.  He enjoyed music and was an artist.  He also was an active member of Heritage Church in Pontoon Beach.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Clayton (Jodi) Warren of Jerseyville, Chris (Danielle) Warren of Glen Carbon, and Calvin (Erica) Warren of Granite City; seven grandchildren, Masen Turner, C.J. Warren, Rachel Warren, Mylee Turner, Caylee Rouse, Henry Warren, and Carter Warren; his siblings, Phil (Cindy) Warren of St. Louis, Mark (Treasa) Warren of Granite City, Pam (Terry) Cook of Granite City, and Sean (Jill) Warren of Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul Warren.

Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 11 at Heritage Church, 3716 Ruth Drive in Pontoon Beach from 1 p.m. until services begin at 4 p.m.  Pastor Greg Dickerman will officiate.

Flora June Trebing, 84, of Granite City, IL died on Sunday, December, 5, 2021 at her home surrounded by her children.

She was born on November 26, 1937 in Grafton, IL to James and Claudine (Compton) Lovsey.

Flora married Nelson Trebing in Edwardsville, IL in 1961.  He preceded her in death in 1972.

The loving mother and grandmother enjoyed playing Bingo and reading.

She was the oldest of her 12 siblings.

Flora is survived by a daughter, Michelle (Norman) Smith of Collinsville, IL; 2 sons:  Nelson “Scott” Trebing of Granite City, IL and Steven James Trebing of Granite City, IL; 3 grandchildren:  Nathanial (Erika) Smith, Nicholas Smith and Lindsey (Jimmy) McComas and 3 great grandchildren:  Oakleigh Smith, Nathanial Smith, Jr and Mila Smith.  Also surviving are 8 brothers; Ron (Carmen) Lovsey, Bill (Deanna) Lovsey, Tom Lovsey, John (Alta) Lovsey, Robert (Marsha) Lovsey, David (Diane) Lovsey, Jeff Lovsey and Curtis (Kelly) Lovsey and 3 sisters:  Mary (Kenny) Dunaway, Beverly Varble and Tammy Hannah.

Flora is preceded in death by her parents.

Betty Ann Sparrow, 76, of Granite City, IL, formally of Washington Park, IL, died on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, IL.

She was born on February 16, 1945 in East St. Louis, IL to Emerson Rabey and Margaret (Little) Rabey.

Betty married Ronald Lee Sparrow in Washington Park, IL in 1963.  He preceded her in death in 2004.

The loving mother and grandmother was a member of the Maplewood Church of Christ in Cahokia, IL.

She enjoyed working puzzle books and taking care of her family.

Betty is survived by a daughter, Helen Sparrow of Centralia, IL; a son, William Sparrow of Granite City, IL; 2 grandchildren:  John (Misty) Womack and Brandon Fisk; 3 great grandchildren:  Jayden Johnston, John Womack, Jr and Sarina Womack;  2 brothers:  Mark Lee Rabey of Collinsville, IL and Rodney Wayne Rabey of Collinsville, IL and a sister, Kathy (Mike) Mifflin of Collinsville, IL.

Jane Ellen Williams, 83, of Granite City, IL died on Friday, December 3, 2021 at her home.

She was born on August 16, 1938 in Granite City, IL to John Floyd Crisler and Laverne (Hemken) Crisler.

Jane married Donald Lee Williams, who preceded her in death, then she married Edward Gaudreault who survives.

The loving wife and mother was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City, IL

Besides her husband, Jane is survived by a daughter, Victoria (Daniel) Drennan of Granite City; 2 grandchildren:  Sean Drennan of Granite City and Patrick Drennan and his fiancé, Liz Colley of Belleville; a great grandchild, Ava Drennan; 5 step children:  Mark Gaudreault, Dennis Gaudreault, Phillip Gaudreault, Richard Gaudreault and Teresa Grimaldi and a brother, George Crisler of Hamel.

Dorothy D. Smith, 92, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 9:35 a.m. on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Cedarhurst of Granite City.

She was born February 12, 1929 in Stewart County, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Robert R. and Dollie (Wallace) Shaw.

She married Thomas S. Smith on March 8, 1947 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and he passed away on January 26, 2017.

She was a loving homemaker whom cherished her children and grandchildren. She was a longtime faithful member of Briarcliff Pentecostal Church in Granite City.

She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed her days of sewing, quilting and made many beautiful afghans. She also enjoyed gardening and had a love for reading. Dorothy lived her life always doing for others.

She is survived and will be deeply missed by two daughters, Vicky Lynch of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Sheila Smith of Granite City; a son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Sondi Smith of O’Fallon, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Smith of Granite City; six grandchildren and spouses, Todd and Shawnette Smith, Kara and Troy Fisher, Mark and Julie Dowdy, Amy and Adam Floyd, Katelyn Smith and Senior Airman Nicholas Smith; two great grandchildren, Madison Dowdy and Mackenzie Fisher; other extended family and many friends.

In addition to her beloved husband of nearly 70 years and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald Smith and a sister, Ruby Harrison.

In celebration of her life, private services will be held and she will be laid to rest with her husband at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

Clyde E. Hoppe, 68, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 10:17 a.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at his home. He was born April 29, 1953 in Cairo, Illinois, a son of the late Otto and Ida Hoppe.

He married Lorene Renee (Revelle) Hoppe on January 6, 2001 at Foursquare Church in Granite City and she survives.

He retired from Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City on April 30, 2019. He had started his career with St. Elizabeth Hospital on September 27, 1973 working in the X-ray department and ending his service in Physical Therapy.

He was a faithful member of Faith in the Word Church and was knowledgeable in history. He enjoyed collecting knives and working on model trains and model cars. He was an avid reader, loved a good book and thoroughly read and studied the Bible.

In addition to his beloved wife of 20 years, he is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth (Chris Richter) Redman of Granite City and Crystal (Patrick) Feyerabend of Tampa, Florida; eight grandchildren, Ashley Richter, Tiffany Richter, Christopher Richter Jr., Alyah Jones, Patrick Feyerabend Jr., Elizabeth Feyerabend, DeeAnna Feyerabend and Lydia Feyerabend; a great granddaughter, Elizah Francis; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Eddie Linhart officiating.

Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road in Granite City.

Loretta Mary Cook, 87, of Rivers Crossing in Edwardsville and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 12:35 p.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis.

She was born June 22, 1934 in Granite City, a daughter of the late Henry and Minnie Young.

She married Connie “Mack” Cook on May 31, 1952 in Arkansas and he passed away on March 27, 2007.

She retired from the Madison School District after 17 years of dedicated service as a school teacher.

She was a faithful member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Granite City where she was active with the Woman’s Guild. She also volunteered many years at the Protestant Community Care Center and cherished her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Grant Texier of Worden and Kelly and John Bernaix of Granite City; five grandchildren, Nathan (Annie) Bernaix, Hannah (Aaron) Inthaluexay, Ashley (Adam) Wright and Cody (Jennifer) Bush; Adam (Shelby) Bernaix; nine great grandchildren, Emma, Olivia, Shaylee, Evie, Juniper, Amelia, Nolan, August and Addison; a sister, Lari Chounard of Pasadena, California; niece, Linda; other extended family and friends.

In celebration of her life, a graveside service will be held at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon on Monday, December 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Karla Frost officiating.

Singnoy Tak Vilaysack, 33, of Jerseyville, IL, passed away at 4:10 p.m. Tues. Nov. 30, 2021 in Jerseyville.

He was born June 5, 1988 in Granite City, IL to the Cindy (Harrison) Mitchell of Granite City and Khamsing Vilaysack of Venice, IL.

On Aug. 20, 2016, he and Brandy Bennett were married in St. Louis, MO.  She survives.

Singnoy was working as an overnight Wal-Mart Associate.  He loved spending time with his daughter.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a daughter: Sophia Vilaysack; a sister: Egen (James) Moore; a brother: Jemien Vilaysack both of Granite City; grandmother: Evelyn Harrison of Jerseyville; step-father: Norman Mitchell of St. Louis; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jerry Harrison.

Memorial visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until time of memorial services at 5:00 p.m. Tues. Dec. 7, 2021 at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory.

Wesley Scott Taylor, 56, of Troy, IL died on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

He was born on May 19, 1965 in Granite City, IL to Harold and Joyce (Pasley) Taylor.

Wesley enjoyed building model cars and trucks.

The loving son and father is survived by his parents; a daughter, Lori Taylor of Maryville, IL and her fiancé, JuPaul; a son, Daniel Robertson of Godfrey, IL his fiancé, Melissa Hemann of Troy, IL; 4 grandchildren:  JuPaul, Ezekiel, Kaydin and Acelynn; 2 brothers:  Harold James Taylor, Jr of Granite City, IL and Steven Taylor of Granite City, IL and a sister, Sherri (Davin) Guardiola of Glen Carbon, IL.

George Francis Groves, 68, of Granite City, IL passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

He was born to the late Rufus and Bertha (Rains) Groves in Williamsburg, KY.

George served in the US Army for 3 years.

He married Vivian Hogue on March 21, 1991 in Glen Carbon, IL.

George spent his free time fishing, playing darts and horseshoes. He also enjoyed watching Cardinals Baseball.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Vivian; a daughter; Angela (Rich) of Granite City, IL; a son: Vincent (Sarah) of Edwardsville; 4 grand-children: Caleb (Emily), Payton (Garrett), Brenden, Morgan; and a brother: Ronald Rains of Michigan.

Besides his parents, George is preceded in death by a brother: James Rains; and 2 sisters: Virginia Crowley, Bertie Young.

The family will be holding a memorial visitation from 4:00 pm until the time of services at 6:00 pm on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Wojstrom Funeral Home and Crematory.


Margaret A. Nonn, age 103, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at her home. Margaret was born on August 29, 1918 in Bonne Terre, MO, a daughter of the late Dezso Elek Sr. and Julia Elek.

Margaret was a faithful member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Fairmont City, IL. She had worked as a bailiff for several judges in Madison County and she retired as a jailer from the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. Margaret also served as an alderman and precinct committeeman for several years. She enjoyed playing bingo, drinking diet Pepsi and spending time with her family and friends. Margaret will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Nonn; daughter, Diane Becherer; and by her siblings, Dezso Elek Jr. and Betty Elek.

She is survived by her loving son-in-law, David Becherer of Madison, IL; proud grandmother to Roger Morthland of Collinsville, IL; extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL.

Margaret will be laid to rest next to Walter at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.

Carroll G. “Sleepy Heape” Heape, 63, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at his home.

He was born November 15, 1958 in Perry County, Illinois, a son of the late Loren and Minnie (Bishop) Heape.

He married Karen S. (Nunes) Heape on March 3, 2005 in Edwardsville and she survives.

He retired in 2016 from Granite City Steel after over 30 years of dedicated service as a steelworker.

He enjoyed his days of fishing, gambling, playing poker and was an avid NASCAR fan. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a daughter, Hailey; two sons, David and Devin; many grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two brothers, Phillip and John; a sister, Lucille; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Monday, December 6, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Sharon Autenrieth officiating.

Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
