She cherished spending meaningful time with family, relaxing with a good book and playing trivia with her sister. Her warmth, generosity, and gentle spirit will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her beloved son, Aaron (Mandy) Blackford of Godfrey; her cherished grandson, Elijah Blackford; and two honorary grandsons, Austin and Carson, who held a special place in her heart. Robert Allen Kays (Bobby), born May 30, 1945, in East St. Louis, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He was the son of Walter Carl Kays Sr. and Corlinda Bernice Kays (Tisdal), both of whom preceded him in death.

Bobby met the love of his life on April 22, 1965 — a first date that would begin a lifetime of devotion. He married Sharon Kay Pulley on September 7, 1968, and together they built a beautiful life rooted in love, loyalty, and family. Last year marked 57 years of marriage — a testament to their deep and enduring bond.

They welcomed their first son, Ronald Allen Kays, on August 12, 1969. Their second son, James Aaron Kays, was born on September 7, 1975 — a day that made their seventh wedding anniversary even more special and coincided with his grandmother’s 44th birthday. Bobby took great pride in being a father, but nothing compared to the joy he felt becoming a grandfather. His two granddaughters, Ashlyn Paige Yoakum (Kays) of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Abbie Leigh Gilliland (Kays) of San Diego, California, stole his heart at first sight. Though he never had the opportunity to meet his three great-grandchildren, they carry forward his legacy and the love of a grandfather who would have cherished them deeply.

Bobby worked at Granite City Steel until his retirement, providing faithfully for his family through years of dedication and hard work. His life, however, revolved around his faith, his church, and his church family. He found strength, purpose, and community in worship, and he lived his beliefs daily through quiet service and steadfast love.

Music filled his home and shaped the memories of those who grew up around him. The powerful voice of Mahalia Jackson often played on his record player, her gospel hymns echoing through the house. He also loved The Happy Goodman Family, especially the song “I’d Do It All Over Again.” That song perfectly reflected the way Bobby lived his life — with gratitude, devotion, and no regrets. If given the chance, he truly would have done it all over again.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Kay Kays of Granite City, Illinois; his sons, Ronald Allen Kays of Collinsville, Illinois, and James Aaron Kays of Granite City, Illinois; his beloved granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Bertha Mae Donahue (Kays), Walter Kays Jr., Anna Pearl Johnson (Kays), Jerry Kays, Shirley Massey (Kays), and Rosetta Zinc (Kays).

On October 26, 1965, Bobby proudly joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Caribou, Maine. His service to his country reflected the same dedication and strength of character that he carried throughout his life.

Bobby will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his devotion to his family, his steady work ethic, and the gospel music that so often filled the air around him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and in the generations that follow.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory in Granite City, IL.  Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Collinsville, IL.

Rev. Allen J. Reiter, 78, of Hamel and formerly of Edwardsville and Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, with his family by his side.

Born January 1, 1948, in Edwardsville, he was a son of the late Charles and Nellie (Koch) Reiter. On July 28, 1984, he married the love of his life, Lynn (Jacobsmeyer) Reiter, at St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City. Their marriage was a true partnership of love, devotion and faith, and she survives.

Reverend Reiter faithfully served the United Church of Christ as an ordained minister for 52 years. Ordained in 1974, he began his ministry in Mansfield and Crestline, Ohio, before returning home to serve in Granite City, Illinois, where he remained until his retirement in 2003. His calling was not simply a profession, but a lifelong commitment to serving God and ministering for God’s people. He stood beside families in their most sacred moments — baptisms, weddings, hospital rooms, and funerals — offering comfort, wisdom, and steady faith. His ministry left a lasting imprint on the many lives he touched.

Allen believed deeply in being an active and compassionate presence in every community he served. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: a competitive game of pinochle, a day of fishing on the lake, golfing with family & friends, tending his garden, bowling, playing softball, and caring for the ‘Reiter’ pets he so dearly loved. Yet nothing brought him greater joy than his family, and their annual trip to Lake Taneycomo.

He was a devoted and loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother, and friend. His steady guidance, gentle humor, and unwavering love will be remembered and cherished always.

In addition to his beloved wife, Lynn, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Chad Alexander of Glen Carbon; his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Angie Reiter of Troy; five treasured grandchildren, Jackson, Benjamin, Melanie, Joseph, and Nathaniel; a sister-in-law, Ann Reiter of Ankeny, Iowa; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and former congregants.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Eileen, Thelma Klueter, and Frances Neunaber; seven brothers, Leroy, Leonard, Chester, Dale, Clyde, Rev. Kenneth, and Murl; four sisters-in-law, Laverne, Rosalie, Esther, and Marie; and three brothers-in-law, Edgar Wendel, Roy Neunaber, and Wilbur Klueter.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Immanuel United Church of Christ – Hamel, 5838 Staunton Road in Edwardsville, at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, with Reverend Paul Burden officiating. Memorials may be made to Immanuel United Church of Christ – Hamel, the American Heart Association, or the American Lung Association. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.irwinchapel.com.

As we say goodbye, we remember the promise we sang so often — that in our end is our beginning, in our time, infinity. The love he shared and the faith he lived will continue to grow in us. And though we part from him for a time, we trust that God is bringing him into life everlasting, where sorrow gives way to joy and love has no end.
