Granite City National Honor Society
A Legacy of Service and Scholarship

When Granite City High School’s National Honor Society (NHS) members collected 1,151 food items this November, enough to fill three truck beds, they weren’t just stocking local food pantries. They were carrying forward a tradition of service that has defined generations of Granite City students.
Founded in 1921, the National Honor Society is built on four pillars: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Membership is reserved for students who excel academically while demonstrating integrity and civic responsibility. For Granite City High School, NHS has long been a proving ground for young leaders who balance classroom achievement with community impact.
The recent food drive, part of the annual Scouting for Food campaign, showcased the power of collaboration between students and residents. Families placed donations in blue bags, and NHS members gathered them with enthusiasm and efficiency. District officials praised the effort, noting that it was “an honor for our students to support Scouting for Food and give back to the community.”
The Granite City NHS’s food drive is more than a one-day event; it’s part of a living tradition. Each can of food collected, each hour volunteered, and each dollar raised reflects the enduring spirit of Granite City’s youth. As these students graduate, they leave behind more than academic records, they leave a legacy of compassion, responsibility, and civic pride.
They make Granite City proud.
