Numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his passing.
Premo was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Edna “Tootsie” Williams, Mary “Tiny” Kissell, and Barbara “Snookie” Hargrove; and brother Clarence “Buddy” Clay, Jr.
A graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a member of the Theta Xi fraternity, Premo dedicated 33 years to teaching in the Granite City School District. For all but one of those years, he taught 6th grade at Logan/Prather Schools, where he became known for his annual class plays and for challenging students to recite poetry and speeches. Tackling the Gettysburg Address or Gunga Din, with passion, could earn you a better grade. He retired in 1993.
An avid reader of all subjects, with a particular love for history books and spy novels, Premo also expressed himself through poetry, and you knew you were special if he wrote one about you. Golfing with friends was also a favorite pastime, especially when his grandson joined him on the course. He could often be found working on the daily crosswords, and he never minded when visitors lent a hand. A semi-gourmet cook, especially with baking bread, he happily shared his creations—often accompanied by Kay’s homemade jam.
Music was another lifelong passion. Having learned to play the guitar in high school, he became the leader of a make-up band with numerous friends and depending on who was in town, a fiddle, tuba, banjo, washboard, washtub, drums, spoons or other various instruments would join his guitar group. Everyone who heard them left happy.
A longtime member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Granite City, IL, and a lifelong member of the Elks, Premo will be remembered for his warmth, wit, and the many lives he touched.
Memorial donations may be given in the form of masses to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Donations will be accepted at the funeral home and church.

Mark Anthony Wiesehan, 64, of Granite City, Illinois, went to rest in the arms of Jesus at 9:53 a.m. on Monday, February 3, 2025, at his home with family at his side.
Mark was born July 16, 1960, in Granite City, the third of three children born to Harold and Gladys (Gray) Wiesehan. Small in stature in life, he died as a big man. He fought his disease bravely and only reluctantly gave way to the inevitable.
He married Pamela Lynn “Pam” (Collins) Wiesehan on April 25, 1986, at the former St. Margaret and Mary Catholic Church in Granite City and she survives.
Mark was a great help to his father during the course of their lives together. They worked many projects together at their homes. Two Peas in a Pod. Both had the same meticulous manner of approaching a task and the results were usually a resounding success. If not a resounding success then resounding mouthfuls of expletives would follow in short order. After the passing of his father, Mark spent many hours aiding and assisting his mother in the financial operations and general upkeep of a house. They worked diligently together to tie up all the loose ends of handling the death of a parent/spouse. All very unappreciated tasks. He had a career as a certified public accountant and had worked for various companies through the years and retired from Corporate Flooring Group. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mark was a proud owner of his home and over the course of his time there spent myriad hours working to achieve the desired look for his mansion. Additions, reworks, daily upkeep and landscaping all were a source of pride to him. He never paid for something he thought he pulled off himself.
His children and grandchildren were an everyday part of his life. Whether giving advice, helping with coaching, driving to events, he was always there. He was the typical proud parent and liked to oversee it all with true parental pride. Mark was an avid sports enthusiast and loved Fantasy Football, had a great knowledge of trivia and cherished special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Noelle and Jacob Cottrell of Granite City and Carlie and Dustin Young of Granite City; a son, Brett Anthony Wiesehan of Granite City; six grandchildren, Bentlee Wiesehan, Jack Cottrell, Jonathan Cottrell, Jameson Cottrell; Nora Young and Lydia Young; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Steve Gray of Chesterfield, Missouri; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Jackie Wiesehan of Glen Carbon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Danny and Lisa Collins of South Gate, California; aunt, Nell Wiesehan of Florissant, Missouri; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Vonda Collins; two brothers-in-law, Charlie Collins and Michael Collins and two sisters-in-law, Lydia Collins and Gina Collins.
In celebration of his life and in accordance to his wishes, a graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon with Father Steve Thompson officiating
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the American Cancer Society.
