Mark Elliott, 38, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
He was born in Granite City on May 20, 1987, the son of Ron and Patty Elliott. Mark grew up in the community he loved, attending local schools where he played baseball with the Warriors, forming lasting friendships and ties that carried through his life.
Mark’s passion for food and hospitality led him to a career as a skilled chef. He worked in several respected restaurants in the area, including 1880 Chophouse and Porter’s Steakhouse, where his talent and dedication earned the admiration of colleagues and patrons alike.
On July 20, 2010, Mark married Brittany (Altmeyer) Elliott, who survives him. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising two beloved sons, Landen and Myles.
In addition to his wife and children, Mark is survived by his parents, Ron and Patty Elliott, and his siblings: Myke (Dawn) Elliott of Vale, AZ; Mason Elliott of Granite City; Melissa (Joe) Peters of Waterloo; Jennifer (Robert) Tucker; Ralph Cooley of Granite City; and Justin (Heather) Cooley of Granite City. He is also remembered with love by Kenny Woolverton and a wide circle of extended family and dear friends, all of whom will miss his warmth, humor, and generous and kind spirit.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, beginning at 6:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Church, 2827 Mockingbird Lane, Granite City, Illinois.
Mark will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend whose legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.

Rebecca “Becky” Ann Gross, age 66, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Stearns Nursing and Rehab Center, surrounded by love.
Born on December 20, 1958, in Granite City, Becky was the cherished daughter of the late Raymond and Anna Marie (Poole) Gross. A proud lifelong resident, she spent her years devoted to her family, her work, and the simple joys that brought her happiness.
Becky was known for her gentle spirit, her kindness, and her unwavering devotion to the people she loved.
She worked for many years in the dietary department at Colonnades Nursing Home, where her warmth and care touched countless lives. In her free time, Becky enjoyed crocheting, latch hook, crossword puzzles, and quiet evenings watching her favorite television shows. Her greatest joy, however, was always her family. She treasured every moment spent with them and delighted in being a loving sister, aunt, and great-aunt.
She will be remembered with love by her devoted sister, Angela Nash; dear niece, Amanda Brannan, proud great-aunt to Sean Gross, Destinie White, and Tristan Gross; as well as many extended family members and dear friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Becky’s wishes were to be cremated, and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date, where family and friends can gather to honor the beautiful life she lived.

Alice Mae Ketchum, 83, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Born on February 23, 1942, in Granite City, Alice was the beloved daughter of the late Richard Harold Dickerson and the late Dorothy Mae (Schoffra) Ely.
A woman of strong faith and generous heart, Alice devoted her life to caring for others. She retired in 2005 after 25 years of dedicated service as a certified nurse assistant in home health care.
Her compassion continued as she worked as a senior companion from 2006 to 2013, offering kindness and companionship to many. She also worked as a courier for Lanter for six years.
Alice was a devoted member of Calvary Life Church in Granite City, where her faith and fellowship brought her great joy. She loved animals—especially her cherished fur babies—and found happiness in traveling, had a love for Tennessee, shopping, yard sales, gardening, home decorating, and reading.
She was united in marriage to William Reynolds on January 3, 1979; he preceded her in death in 1980. Later, she married Mancel “Sonny” Ketchum on October 13, 2012, at Calvary Life Church; he also preceded her in death on August 14, 2013.
Alice’s greatest joy came from her family. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who always gave of herself to provide a better life for her loved ones.
She is survived by four children and their spouses, Kathleen and Mark Whitehead of Collinsville, Christopher and Jeannie Garriott of Granite City, David Garriott of Crossville, Tennessee and Terri Crystal and Dino Clifford of Granite City.
She is also survived by six stepchildren: Lori Havens, Linda Coles, Lisa Brooks, Louise Sandberg, Katherine Sweeney, and Sonja Ketchum-Hackman; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and five sisters: Paulette Cheetum of West Frankfort, Carol Ann Burlingame of Mulberry Grove, Nancy Seisser of Lewisburg, Tennessee, Mildred Cathey of Granite City, and Diane McPheeters of Johnston City. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Alice was preceded in death by her two brothers, David Lee Ely and Gary Wayne Ely.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Reverend Mark Maynard will officiate. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery on Nameoki Road in Granite City.

Randall Wayne Miller, 70, of Granite City, IL, died Sun. Aug. 10, 2025 at Greenville Nursing and Rehab in Greenville, IL.
He was born Jan. 28, 1955 in Granite City and was a son of the late Claude and Charlene (Jones) Miller.
Randall had worked as a meat cutter at Tri-City Grocery for many years as well as being a construction worker with Local #397. He loved to be outdoors, fishing and hunting and he enjoyed his “Westerns”.
He is survived by a daughter, Tiffany Miller-Hintz of Greenville, a son Cody Miller of St. James, MO, 3 grandchildren, Cyle, Katlynn, Alivia, and 3 great-grandchildren, Aleena, Abel, and Avayda.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Christy Wallace.
Memorial visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of memorial services at 5:00 p.m. Fri. Sept. 5, 2025 at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory.

Margaret Lorraine (Gonterman) Eck, age 93, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the home of her daughter Toni in Collinsville, surrounded by love and family.
Born on August 3, 1932, in Venice, Illinois, Margaret was the cherished daughter of the late Jesse and Mildred (Orris) Gonterman Sr. A woman of deep faith, she lived her life guided by love, kindness, and devotion to her family.
Margaret was proud to serve her community through her career with the U.S. government as a transportation specialist, where she worked with dedication until her retirement. She also enjoyed serving as an election judge, a role she carried out with the same sense of commitment and pride.
She was a woman with many passions—she loved creating crafts, traveling across the country to visit her daughters, and cheering for her beloved St. Louis Cardinals. Yet above all, Margaret’s greatest joy was her family. She had a gift for laughter, a heart full of love, and an unwavering devotion to those she held dear. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth and spirit touched all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, John Gonterman and Jessie Gonterman Jr.; and her sons-in-law, Father Nicholas Andrews and Richard Tarquinio.
Margaret’s memory will forever be treasured by her loving daughters, Toni Andrews of Collinsville, IL, Teri Tarquinio of Columbus, OH, and Tami (Jim) Rush of Tarpon Springs, FL; her granddaughter, Megan Tarquinio; her great-granddaughter, Rome Bullock; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends who were blessed by her presence.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel in Granite City. A celebration of her remarkable life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2025, also at Irwin Chapel, with Father Stephen Thompson officiating. Margaret will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, Illinois.
Margaret Eck lived a life filled with laughter, love, and faith. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on in the family she so dearly loved and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Cynthia Audrey “Cindy” Gibbs, 68, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
She was born on June 25, 1957, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Charles and Rae (Jones) Marshall. On September 27, 1974, she married Barry Joseph Gibbs at Glenview Assembly of God Church in Granite City. He survives.
Cindy was a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother. During her daughters’ school years, she served as president of the PTA, always actively involved in their lives. She loved going to the movies, traveling, sewing, and knitting. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her family—she cherished her children and especially adored her grandchildren.
In addition to her beloved husband of 50 years, Barry, she is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law: Katie and David Birchmier of Collinsville, Megan and Ryan Cunningham of Troy, and Shelby and Blake Powers of Granite City; her treasured grandchildren, Layla, Owen, and Ruthie; a sister, Jane Clarkston of Edwardsville; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Darren Marshall.
In celebration of her life, private services will be held at Irwin Chapel in Granite City.
She will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon during a private family ceremony.

Honora “Susie” M. Blackwell, 83, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away on August 21, 2025, at her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Elbert D. Blackwell, parents; Alice and Jack Dickerson, brothers; Tommy Giller and Bart Dickerson and nephew; Joshua Dickerson.
Susie is survived by son; Andrew (Jill) Blackwell, daughters; Laura (Steven) VanZandt and Trish (Nelson) Wells, grandchildren; Lars VanZandt, Elliott (Rae) VanZandt, Brooke (Tim) Wong, Nelson (Leah) Wells, Taylor (Nicholas) Smith and Dalton (Trinity) Wells, granddogs; Bella, Penny and Sampson, great-grandchildren; Sage, Lizzy, Ellie, Yarrow, Jane, Nelson 3rd and Nicholas, sisters and brothers; Robin Davis, Russell (Teri) Dickerson, Sharon Freeman, Jackie File, Joe (Janeen) Dickerson, Gloria (Steve) Durbin, Kevin (Shonna) Dickerson, Janice (Kevin) Sunburger, Donna (Don) Thorn and many nieces and nephews.
Susie was a loving and very generous person who always put everyone’s needs above herself. She was a strong woman of God and was a blessing to all who came across her path.
She loved sewing baking and planting flowers.
She loved her family very much and enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible.

Gerold Thomas “Jerry” Myatt, 86, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, and formerly of Granite City, passed away peacefully at 12:54 a.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.
Born on January 20, 1939, in Los Angeles, California, Jerry was the beloved son of the late Audrey Myatt and Jesse Pace.
A hardworking and passionate entrepreneur, Jerry owned and operated JM Motors in Granite City for over 50 years.
His love for the roar of an engine was unmistakable — throughout his life, he enjoyed motorcycles, Corvettes, and powerboats, always drawn to speed, craftsmanship, and freedom on the open road or water.
Jerry lived life to the fullest. He found peace outdoors, especially by the lake, and he never shied away from hard work. With a big heart and generous spirit, he was always ready to lend a hand and offer support to family, friends, and even strangers. Above all, he deeply cherished time spent with his loved ones.
He is survived by his six children: Gerold Myatt II and MacyAnne A. Myatt, along with their mother, Heather Myatt, Cindy (Duane) Doerr, Darin (Beverly) Dawson, Melissa (Matt) Rogier and Jason (Shelby) Myatt. He also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Marcia Weeks; nieces and nephews; his cherished dogs, Beamer and Juni; and a wide circle of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Myatt, and his sister, Faye Irwin.

James “Hub” Wilkinson, 77, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, with his devoted wife at his side. Born on August 16, 1948, in West Frankfort, IL, Hub was the beloved son of the late Herschel and Jamesena (Wasson) Wilkinson.
One of a set of twins, Hub grew up in a lively, love-filled home where family, laughter, and community shaped the man he became. His childhood fostered in him a lifelong devotion to family, a passion for sports, and a generosity of spirit that touched everyone who knew him.
On November 27, 1982, Hub married the love of his life, Mary Beasley, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granite City. Together they shared more than four decades of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Hub dedicated over 30 years to Granite City Steel, retiring from the financial department with the respect and admiration of his colleagues. He also enjoyed a remarkable 45-year career at Fairmont Racetrack, where he retired as Head of Admissions—a role that perfectly suited his warm smile and welcoming presence.
A proud supporter of the University of Illinois, Hub’s heart belonged to the Fighting Illini. His voice rang out during basketball season, filled with excitement and loyalty. He was equally devoted to his St. Louis Cardinals, following every season faithfully and sharing his love of the game with nieces, nephews, and friends alike.
In addition to his parents, Hub was preceded in death by his twin sister, Jane Leech, and his brother, John Wilkinson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Wilkinson of Granite City; his dear brother and sister-in-law, Bryan and Sandy Wilkinson of Glen Carbon, IL; brother-in-law, Doug Leech of New Lenox, IL; sister-in-law, Mary Wilkinson of West Lafayette, IN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Beth Beasley of Chesterfield, MO; his treasured nieces and nephews—Michael, Caroline, Meredith, Melinda, Jed, Chris, Allison, Michael, Michelle, Jenny, and Jessi—as well as many great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and countless dear friends.

Virginia Kay Bozarth, 88, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois. Born March 27, 1937, in Harrisburg, Illinois, she was the beloved daughter of the late Harry E. and Susan “Sue” (Noel) Bozarth.
A lifelong educator and advocate for children, Virginia devoted her career to teaching English, Art, and Physical Education at Grigsby Intermediate School, where she inspired generations of students with her creativity, warmth, and dedication. Virginia had a deep appreciation for the arts and enjoyed painting, crafting, and expressing herself through various creative outlets. She found joy outdoors and took great pride in maintaining her beautifully kept yard.
A passionate sports enthusiast, she especially loved playing golf and tennis. Whether she was watching HGTV or spending time with her beloved dogs, Virginia found peace and contentment in the comfort of her home. Fiercely independent yet deeply connected to those she loved; Virginia welcomed the warmth of family and friends with open arms. Her legacy of generosity, kindness, and unwavering love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard N. Bozarth.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her beloved nieces, Angela White and Suzanne (Robert) Ausbon, both of Hazelwood, Missouri and Marie Bozarth, of Granite City, Illinois; her great niece and nephews, Jessica (Paul) Cassidy, Robert “Trey” Ausbon, III, and Jonathan (Farah) Ausbon; her great-great nephew and niece, Lonán and Roya; and many other relatives and friends.

Reginald “Regi” Briggs, 76, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 11:25 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. He was born April 8, 1949, in East St. Louis, Illinois, the son of the late Raymond “Ray” and Mary (Morris) Briggs.
He married Patricia A. (Roberts) Briggs on April, in Granite City and she survives. Regi retired from Ameren after 27 years of dedicated service as a pipefitter and was a 30 year member of the Pipefitters Local #360.
He was a member of the Town and Country Gun Club in Maryville and enjoyed his days of fishing. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by three daughters, Amanda Meyer of Granite City, Andrea Valencia of Granite City, Carrie Creek of Alexander, Arkansas; two stepsons, Michael Heatherly and his girlfriend, Denise Smith and Scott Heatherly and his wife, Kris Heatherly of Granite City; eleven grandchildren, McKenzie, Mason, Maddox, Madison, Mia, Marleigh, Avery, Aiden, Dillon, Richard and Emmy; four nieces, DeeDee, Christine, Rachel, Kimberly; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Rayleen and Eddie Boone.
In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Tri-City Assembly of God Church, 3400 Maryville Road in Granite City, IL., with the memorial service at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Barry Shepherd officiating, followed by a luncheon/visitation until 3:00 p.m. at the church.

Charles R. Harrison, lovingly known to many as “Choo Choo,” age 92, of Worden, IL, and formerly of Granite City, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 21, 2025, surrounded by the love of his devoted children.
Born May 2, 1933, in Granite City, IL, Charles was the cherished son of the late Charles F. and Fern (Hoese) Harrison. From his earliest years, Charles lived a life filled with purpose, perseverance, and deep devotion to his family, friends, and community.
He attended Harris and Louis Baer Primary Schools, graduated from Madison High School, and continued his education at Missouri State Teacher’s College.
Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953–1956. During the Korean Conflict, he was deployed to Wachenheim, Germany, as a sergeant in the famed 2nd Armored Division, “Hell on Wheels.”
On September 23, 1960, Charles married the love of his life, Virginia Carol Hacker. Together they built a beautiful life until her passing in 1991, and Charles carried her memory in his heart for the rest of his days.
A hardworking and entrepreneurial man, Charles dedicated many years at Granite City Steel blast furnace and Commonwealth. He later became a union distributor/driver for Sinclair and Arco Oils, and in 1981 founded Harrison Oil. That same year, he became a licensed realtor and eventually opened Harrison Realty. Never one to slow down, he joined the United States Postal Service in 1987 as a clerk, retiring in 2000 after a career that reflected his determination and strong work ethic.
Charles was a man of faith and fraternity. He was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Granite City and a proud member of countless organizations including Triple Lodge, Scottish Rite, Ainad Temple, Ainad Color Guard, Arab Patrol, the Royal Order of the Jesters, Granite City Elks Lodge 1063, Disabled American Veterans, and American Legion Posts 877 and 835. His dedication to service and fellowship was a cornerstone of his life.
To all who knew him, Charles was a friend, mentor, and a man who never met a stranger. He was always ready with a helping hand or a kind word. His happiest moments were spent with his family at Holiday Shores, enjoying the view of the lake from his porch, sipping coffee with his loyal cat, Boots, or catching up with friends at his favorite hangout, The Vault coffee shop. His warmth, humor, and unwavering love for his family will forever be remembered.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife Virginia, Charles was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Paulson.
He is survived by his loving children, Charles Michael (Jenny) Harrison and Pamela Jo (Richard) Bywater; his seven adoring grandchildren; Ashley (Nathan), Andrew, Alex (Destiny), Brooke, Brittany, Jacob and Ashley; ten great-grandchildren; Jack, Samuel, Charli, Isabella, Scottie, Elijah, Brayden, Brooklyn, Kaden and Tariq; and a host of extended family and treasured friends who will carry his memory forward.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 25, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel in Granite City, IL. A Royal Order of Jesters Rose Ceremony will take place at 7:13 p.m., followed by a Masonic Service.
A celebration of Charles’s life will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Irwin Chapel. He will be laid to rest beside Virginia at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, IL, with full military honors provided by the United States Army.

Barbara K. Winsel, 78, of Alton, IL passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at La Bella of Alton Nursing Center in Alton, IL.
She was born on January 4, 1947 in Wood River, IL to Roy and Velma (nee: Logsdon) McGhee.
The loving mother and grandmother was a CNA who worked for home health and nursing homes.
She enjoyed crocheting, quilts, reading books and playing video games. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Barbara is survived by 2 daughters: Sherry (David) Brewer of Godfrey and Tammy Holiday of Granite City; 3 brothers: George Holiday of Granite City, Sammy Holiday of Granite City and Kenneth Holiday of Granite City; many grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Besides her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by a daughter, Donna K. Bryant; 2 brothers and a sister.

Nora Lee Burch (née Williams), 93, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on January 28, 1932, in Silver Mines, Missouri, Nora was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Malinda (Parks) Williams.
A devoted member of Mt. Zion General Baptist Church in Granite City, Nora served joyfully as a greeter and was affectionately known as the church’s “resident hugger.”

Above all, Nora was a devoted mother, proud grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her legacy of compassion, humor, and unconditional love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Karen Lynne Luddeke, 83, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family at her daughter Karrie’s home.
Born on October 11, 1941, in Granite City, IL., Karen was the cherished daughter of the late Leonard and Edna Louise (Habekost) Bickel.
A lifelong resident of the community she adored, Karen lived a life marked by faith, service, and love.
On June 22, 1985, she married Donald L. Luddeke, at St. John United Church of Christ, where she was a devoted and faithful member. Together they built a life of love, family, and faith until Don’s passing on October 3, 2021.
Karen dedicated many years to shaping young lives as a schoolteacher in the Granite City School District. Known for her patience, kindness, and passion for education, she touched countless students’ lives and left an enduring legacy in her classrooms.
Deeply proud of her hometown, Karen supported the Granite City Park District and gave generously to programs like Patriots in the Park. She also found joy and fellowship in her membership with P.E.O. International and Ladies Evening Guild and Karen treasured the friendships built over countless bridge games.
Above all, Karen’s greatest joy was her family. She adored every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, cherishing the simple joys of laughter, conversation, and togetherness.
She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Don, her parents, and her stepsons, Daniel and Dean Luddeke.
Karen’s memory lives on through her loving children, Ford (Patricia) Frazar of Las Vegas, NV, and Karrie (Don) Frazar-King of Granite City, IL; her stepdaughter, Dana (Bob) Carroll of Belleville, IL; her treasured grandchildren, Alexander Frazar, Karley Swarts, Vena Luddeke, and Vanessa Luddeke; and her precious great-grandchildren, Eve and Arizona. She will also be dearly remembered by her extended family and a wide circle of friends who were touched by her warmth and generosity.

Michael Ray Fuller, 70, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, at home in Granite City, Illinois. Born May 2, 1955, in Granite City, Illinois, he was the beloved son of the late Kenneth Ray and Ida Rosella (Sammons) Fuller.
Mike spent many years living in the Indianapolis area, returning to Granite City when he retired.
Mike held a variety of jobs during his life including working in the Texas oil fields, working for several convenience store chains, and during his later years becoming a licensed locksmith, enjoying the challenges it brought.
Michael was a member of the congregation at Unity Baptist Church in Granite City, Illinois. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Pastor Jarad Corzine of Unity Baptist for all the help, guidance, and mentorship he provided to Mike.
Mike proudly served his country in the United States Army. He also dedicated his time and was a member of the VFW Post 1299 in Edwardsville, Illinois. Mike will be remembered as a beloved brother, uncle, great and great-great uncle and friend.

Cletus August Knobeloch, 99, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Jerseyville Manor.
Born on the family farm in Clinton County, Illinois, on January 20, 1926, Cletus was the beloved son of the late Otto and Irene (Huelskoetter) Knobeloch. His life was defined by faith, service, devotion to family, and an enduring love for the simple joys that made him happiest.
A proud veteran, Cletus served his country with honor in both World War II and the Korean War, as a member of the United States Navy. His patriotism and dedication to duty remained lifelong hallmarks of his character.
On September 27, 1952, he married the love of his life, Frances Newell, at St. Peter’s Evangelical United Church of Christ in Granite City. Together they built more than a home—they created a legacy of love, faith, and family. Their marriage of over 61 years was a shining example of devotion until Frances’s passing on February 20, 2014.
Cletus retired in 1991, following 45 years of holding various positions in the soft-drink bottling industry in the greater St. Louis area. He closed his career with 7-Up Bottling Company in St. Louis, Missouri.
Outside of work, he poured his heart into his passions. They were first and foremost his family, cheering on his beloved St. Louis Cardinals, reading a good book, and enjoying classic John Wayne movies (even when he could no longer hear them!). He loved being outdoors enjoying nature, and casting a line on fishing days was a lifelong passion.
To his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, he was a steadfast source of love, patience, and wisdom, always leading them by example. To friends and neighbors, he was a kind soul who never met a stranger. His warmth and loyalty touched every life he encountered, and his presence will be deeply missed.
Cletus is survived by his loving children, Rev. Sue (Randy) Biggerstaff of Wright City, MO; Bruce (Elaine Frey) Knobeloch of Salinas, CA; and Maryellen (Ed) Brake of Godfrey, IL. He is also cherished by his dear sisters, Millie Glenn and Norma Macios; his treasured grandchildren, Nick (Amanda) Biggerstaff, Amy (Rob) Swanson, Ian (Dr. Emily Slat) Brake, Jordan (Dominick Casucci) Brake, Ellen (Matt) Brinkman, and Emily (Rick Craig) Knobeloch; and his adored great-grandchildren, Jay Swanson, Nolan Swanson, Alana Biggerstaff, Preston August Biggerstaff, and Madelynn Knobeloch. His legacy also lives on through many amazing nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends, especially Eileen Rea whose friendship he cherished.

Roy Leonard Logan Jr., 84, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, formerly of Granite City, IL., entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
A devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and treasured friend, Roy’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with faith, service, and an unshakable love for family and community.
Born in Granite City on July 30, 1941, to the late Roy Logan Sr. and Mabel (Rensing) Logan, Roy’s life was one of purpose and passion.
On June 16, 1972, he married the love of his life, Linda Lybarger, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granite City—a partnership that became the cornerstone of a joyful 53-year journey together.
Roy was a proud and active member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, where his generous spirit was felt in every committee he served on and every event he supported. His dedication to the parish’s beloved fish fry earned him the affectionate nickname “Mr. Fish Fry,” a title he wore with both humility and pride.
A graduate of Bradley University, where he played football, Roy carried his love for sports into his career, inspiring countless young athletes as a coach at Granite City High School. As a math teacher and guidance counselor, he didn’t just teach—he mentored, guided, and believed in his students, leaving a legacy of encouragement that will endure for generations.
Roy also found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Blessed with a green thumb, he tended his gardens with skill and care, always ready to share plants, produce, and advice with anyone who asked. Above all, his greatest joy was time spent with family—laughing, celebrating, and creating memories that will be cherished forever.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard Logan; and his granddaughter, Dakota Birdsong.

Ernie Dale Stephens, 80, of Granite City passed away at 6 p.m. August 12, 2025 at Hallmark Nursing Home in Carlinville, IL.
He was born October 4, 1944 in Granite City to Ernie Lee and Fern (nee: Corbett) Stephens.
Ernie was an Army Veteran and a truck driver. He was of the Pentecostal faith and he loved reading and studying the bible. In his free time he enjoyed sitting on the porch swing and drinking coffee with his brother, Ronnie and son, Todd.

Robert Dean Mathias, 71, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at 12:02 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
He was born on January 18, 1954, in Granite City, the son of the late Harry and Imogene (Rice) Mathias. On July 18, 2009, he married the love of his life, Vicky B. (Colp) Mathias in Granite City, and she survives.
Robert retired from S&S Pallet in Madison after over 20 years of dedicated service as a truck driver. He was a proud member of the Granite City Eagles Aerie #1126 and an avid pool player who participated in many leagues throughout the years.
A talented musician, Robert was known for his love of playing instruments, especially guitar, and for his singing. He will be fondly remembered for his devotion to his family and the cherished moments spent with his grandchildren.

Robert D. Ostresh, 72, of Granite City, IL died on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
He was born on December 23, 1952 in Granite City to Edwin and Virginia (nee: Courtney) Ostresh. Robert married Tricia Tuttle on July 24, 1993 in Las Vegas, NV.
He served his country in the United States Army with two tours in Vietnam and received two purple Hearts. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV and AMVETS. Robert enjoyed boating, camping, hunting and the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife Tricia Tuttle-Ostresh of Granite City; daughter, Dawn Renee Reed; son, Christopher Ostresh of Chula Vista, CA; grandson, Stephen Ostresh; brothers, Edwin Jr. (Heidi) Ostresh of Granite City, John (Mitra) Ostresh of Encinitas, CA, and Leonard Dollins (Beth) of Granite City and sister, Marilyn (Eric, Sr) Hecker of Jerseyville. Terry L. Collins, lovingly known as “Papa,” passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, at the age of 69, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born on June 6, 1956, in West Plains, Missouri, to Ermon D. Collins and Margaret Waterhouse Collins, Terry spent most of his life in the St. Louis area, residing in Bridgeton before settling in Granite City, Illinois, where he lived for the past two decades.
Terry was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather whose greatest joy in life came from the people he loved.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Christine Collins; his children, Jennifer (Carl) Hughes, Jamie (Jimmy) Cameron, Troy (Ambur) Risinger, and Seanna Risinger. He was a proud and adoring Papa to his cherished grandchildren: Nathan Hughes, Ethan Risinger, Carson Cameron, Collin Hughes, Ian Risinger, Eli Hughes, Kynzlee Ray, and Kennedy Cameron—each of whom brought him endless pride and happiness.
Terry also leaves behind his beloved mother, Margaret Collins; his brother, Dave Collins; and his close cousin, Allen Wishman—each of whom will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ermon D. Collins; his brothers, Steve Collins and Mike Collins; and his sister, Vicki Pratt—all of whom he loved deeply and now joins in eternal rest.

With hearts full of love and gratitude for her life, we remember Faith Jewel Parrish, 77, of Granite City, IL, who peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family.
Born on June 16, 1948, to Dr. Alfred Edward Everett and Jewel Wanda (Hand) Everett, Faith grew up in Granite City with a boundless spirit and a heart as open as the sky.
From an early age, she radiated kindness and carried an unshakable belief in the beauty of people and the world around her.
Faith never met a stranger—only friends she had yet to know. Her laughter was warm and contagious, her hugs a safe haven, and her helping hands always extended without hesitation. She was a woman who embraced life with joy and poured love into every relationship she held dear.
An exceptionally gifted artist, Faith earned her master’s degree in art and brought beauty into the world through painting, drawing, and pottery. Every creation she made reflected her vibrant soul and inspired those who saw her work.
Her proudest role, however, was that of mother and grandmother. She was the devoted mom to Tammie (Timothy) Parrish-Miller and Pamela (Eric Littiken) Parrish-Miller, both of Granite City, IL, and the adoring “Grandma Faith” to Taylor Wohlin, Samantha Wohlin, and Autumn Wohlin. She cherished each of them beyond measure, weaving love into their lives.
Faith is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William Edward Everett.
She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, creativity, and laughter in the hearts of her family, her extended family, and countless dear friends.

Tammy Elaine (Monroe) Cope, 67, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at 9:33 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Gateway Regional Medical Center.
Born June 19, 1958, in Granite City, Tammy was the cherished daughter of the late E. Alex Monroe and the late Ada “Doris” (Revelle) Glasgow.
On June 24, 1978, she married the love of her life, Alfred “Gene” Cope Jr., at City Temple in Granite City. Together they shared 47 years of marriage, building a life centered around family, faith, and enduring love.
Tammy dedicated over 30 years of service as a quality control assistant at Heidtman Steel before retiring in 2015. A proud 1976 graduate of Granite City High School, she was a faithful, longtime member of City Temple, where her spirit and devotion left a lasting impact.
Creative and vibrant, Tammy had a flair for fashion and a love for crafts. She never passed up a day of shopping—whether online or at her favorite local stores—and was always impeccably dressed, from her stylish clothing to her jewelry and makeup. She treasured family vacations to Silver Dollar City in Branson and anything Disney, creating joyful memories that will live on in the hearts of her loved ones.
Tammy was the heart of her family—the “Queen Bee” to her beloved “Princesses.” Her legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering strength will forever be remembered.

Funeral services will take place at City Temple, 4751 Maryville Road in Granite City, on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Reverend Roy Boyer and Reverend Sam Hart.
Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and will be accepted at the funeral chapel.

Carol Jean “Jeannie” Garber, 84, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on December 13, 1940, in Granite City, Jeannie was the cherished daughter of the late Earl and Clara (Walz) Harrison. On August 18, 1956, she married the love of her life, Anton “Tony” Frederick Garber, in Holly Springs, Mississippi.
Together, they shared a beautiful journey of love, laughter, and devotion until his passing on September 26, 2013.
Jeannie was a devoted wife, mother, and a beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She left a lasting impression on everyone who met her.
She found joy in the simple pleasures—shopping, traveling, cooking, doting on her grandchildren, and cherishing every moment spent with family, especially at the family barbeques. Her presence was felt in every room, and her absence will be deeply felt by those whose lives she touched.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Jeannie was preceded in death by her sons, Michael Garber and John “Butch” Garber; siblings William Harrison (in infancy), James Harrison (in infancy), Barbara Pettersson, Linda Tennant, Marilyn Burdzilauskas, Elizabeth Crone, Ruth Harrison, Rosemary Ensor, Ralph Harrison, and Donald Harrison.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted children: Cynthia (Frank) Dorris of East St. Louis, IL; Katherine McDavid (Scott Byrum) of South County, MO; and Charles Garber of Litchfield, IL; daughter-in-law, Charrie Garber of Port Orchard, WA; dear siblings, Esther “Sis” Wagner, Patricia (Pat) Jeske, and Richard Harrison; cherished grandchildren, Derrick (Sarah) Fitzhugh, Joshua Garber, Frank Dorris, Charles Garber, and Collin McDavid; great-grandchildren, Julia Garber, Andy Garber, and Athon Fitzhugh; several great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A celebration of Jeannie’s remarkable life will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Irwin Chapel in Granite City, Illinois. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Patricia “Patty” Marie McGowan Barker Endicott, 64, of Granite City, IL died on Monday, August 4, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born on December 3, 1960 in Granite City, IL to Patrick Floyd McGowan, Sr and Rosa (nee: Romero) McGowan.
Patty married Keith Endicott in Edwardsville, IL on June 27, 2025 after 37 years of being together.
The loving wife and mother was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City, IL. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her dog, Rayne. Patty also enjoyed going on walks with her grandchildren to feed the ducks at the local pond. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.
Besides her husband and mother, Patty is survived by 3 daughters: Amy Barker of Granite City, Samantha Ferrell of Granite City and Ashley Williams of Granite City; 9 grandchildren: Paige Stevenson, Drake Stevenson, Jasmaine Ferrell and fiancé, Sean Wright, Isabella Ferrell, Brooklyn Ferrell, Rayven Ferrell, George Wilson, Jr, Carman Williams and Carson Williams; 2 great grandchildren: Lochlan and Adalynn; 3 brothers: Thomas (Aimee) McGowan of O’Fallon, IL, Joseph McGowan of Bethalto IL and John McGowan of Granite City and a sister, Mary (Ed) Edwards of Granite City.
Patty is preceded in death by her father; a brother, Patrick McGowan, Jr; a sister, Cynthia Smith and a granddaughter, Tiarra Ferrell.

Betty Jean (Sanders) Morthland, age 93, of Glen Carbon, passed peacefully on August 2, 2025, at Stillwater Senior Living, Edwardsville surrounded by family.
She was born in Southern Illinois and often shared the story about her brother Bob getting sent away to play. When he returned on June 24, 1932, he had a new baby sister. Betty’s family moved to Granite City, IL when she was 3.
She attended Granite City schools. Following high school, Betty married Herman Barker and together they had one son, Gary. Later, Betty spent her professional career working for First National Bank St. Louis, Prestige Printing, Edison Tool & Die and Ivan Harrison.
She loved being a bookkeeper and together with her late husband Jim Morthland, she operated TaxSaver tax service. Betty loved traveling…whether a Mediterranean cruise or drive along the Great River Road. She spent several winters in Florida with her niece Nancy and sister-in-law Charlene. There she joined other senior ladies affectionately known as the Purple Martin Golden Girls. They enjoyed games, boat rides and dining out. Betty loved to host parties, and her Christmas Day Open House was well known. Her nieces and nephews have great memories of playing dress up with her clothes and make-up. She loved all dogs and a statue of her last dog Hotshot moved with her to each new home. Nancy’s dogs, Charlotte and Lacie, loved to lay under her desk. The late Pastor Fred Winters witnessed to Betty and Jim. Soon they accepted Christ and joined First Baptist Church Maryville. After Jim passed, Betty remained active by driving other senior ladies to church. Betty loved driving her Toyota around local neighborhoods looking at the latest outdoor decor and color pairings. She loved to critique decor. Her license plate read “taxsvr1” and a resident once flagged her down. They thought she was driving around trying to raise their property taxes.
Betty was proceeded in death by her husband Jim Morthland, her first husband Herman Barker, her parents, William and Helen Sanders, and her son Gary Barker.
Left to cherish wonderful memories are her sister-in-law Charlene Sanders, her nieces and nephews, Nancy (Marty) LeVault, Norman Sanders, Nora (Chuck) Cobb and Neda (Dale) Banach; grandchildren, Christine Bellovich and Garry Wayne Barker; two great grandsons, Shawn and Derek Bellovich ; stepchildren, Susan (Dennis) Vaughn and Jay Morthland; step grandchildren, Jesse (Shawn) Vaughn and Jordan (Jared) Sparks, six step great grandchildren, Charlie, Alex, Valor, Ransom, Providence, and Oak. Betty cherished time spent with her beloved friends Leni, Sandy, Debbie and Mary, all of whom preceded her in death. They had many wonderful adventures and shopping experiences.

Elizabeth C. “Betty” Stegemeier, 93, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 11:35 a.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Gateway Regional Medical Center.
Born on September 14, 1931, in Litchfield, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late James P. and Winifred (Hayden) Barry.
On February 7, 1959, she married the love of her life, Robert J. “Bob” Stegemeier, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Edwardsville. They shared 66 wonderful years together. Bob survives her.
A devout Catholic, Betty was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City, where she faithfully attended Mass, prayed the Rosary, and served with the Ladies’ Club and the Heavenly Dusters. She was deeply committed to the Right to Life cause, volunteering with the Alpha Center and the P.A.C. van, and was also active in the Knights of Columbus Ladies’ Auxiliary.
Betty was immensely proud of her Irish heritage and cherished her travels to Ireland with family. Known for her warmth and hospitality, she loved entertaining and was especially admired for her cooking. She found great joy in hosting gatherings and playing cards with her card clubs. She cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with her beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her beloved husband of 66 years, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and John Muich of O’Fallon, Illinois; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Kathy Stegemeier of Granite City and Tom and Marcee Stegemeier of Granite City; six grandchildren and their spouses, Breann Muich, Ryan and Alexa Muich, Brad and Lindsay Hutchings, Amanda and Keith Harris, Chloe and Anthoney Ragnetti and Corey Stegemeier and Sam Stegemeier; eight great grandchildren, Fallyn, Laityn, Hayden, Suttyn, Quinn, Luka, Mabel and Violet; a brother, Joe Barry of Walnut Creek, California; a sister-in-law, Marilynn Barry of Edwardsville; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Richard and Bobby Ann Stegemeier of Anaheim, California and George Stegemeier of Houston, Texas; many nieces and nephews; cousins; other extended family and many special friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick Barry (infant) and James Barry.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Avenue in Granite City on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. with Father Steve Thompson as celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.

Susan Fay Zgonina, 63, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Gateway Regional Medical Center, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on February 8, 1962, in St. Louis, Missouri, Susan was the cherished daughter of the late David H. Gragg and Ida M. (Fellhauer) Gragg. On February 13, 1987, she married, Jeffrey “Jeff” Zgonina, and together they built a life centered on family.
For over twenty-seven years, Susan dedicated her talents and work ethic to the accounting department at Weber Chevrolet in Granite City. Her colleagues admired her integrity, attention to detail, and warm-hearted spirit.
Susan found joy in life’s simple pleasures—sunny days at the beach, the rhythmic sound of the ocean waves, and quiet moments of relaxation. A gifted cook and avid crocheter, she delighted in preparing comforting meals and creating handmade treasures for those she loved. But above all, her greatest joy was being a devoted wife, nurturing mother, and doting grandma to her beloved grandchildren. Her heart overflowed with love, and she gave it freely.
Known for her warm smile and boundless kindness, Susan never met a stranger. She touched countless lives with her generosity, compassion, and her readiness to help anyone in need. Her spirit leaves a lasting legacy in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her.
Susan is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Jeff Zgonina; her children, Danielle Zgonina and Joshua (Summer) Zgonina; and her grandchildren, Addison Cannady, Braxton Cannady, Carsyn Cannady, Dustin Dunaway Jr., and Amora Dunaway—all of Granite City. She is also survived by her dear siblings, Gary (Laura) Gragg, Richard Gragg, and Kathi Nenninger; special friend, Randy Parks; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and treasured friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sister, Patricia Jackson.
A visitation in Susan’s honor will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel in Granite City. A celebration of her remarkable life will follow with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025, also at Irwin Chapel.
