Michael A. Leisner, 71, of Wood River, Illinois passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

He was born September 24, 1953, in Granite City, Illinois, a son of the late Magnus “Weasel” and Shirley Ann (Heiser) Leisner.

He married Melody Jo (Moore) Leisner on January 15, 2016, in Edwardsville, Illinois and she survives.

The United States Navy veteran proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.  Michael retired in 2006 as a police officer with 25 years of service with the City of Granite City. 

He had previously worked as an EMT and paramedic and was the first K-9 officer with the department and enjoyed training police dogs. He cherished his grandchildren, enjoyed watching old westerns and listening to Elvis. He was proud of his many years of service to his community and will always be considered a hero by his family.

In addition to his beloved sweetheart since 2008, he is survived by five children and spouses, Heather Leisner of Granite City, Josh and Shanna Leisner of Granite City, Kara and Jimmie Pollard of Bunker Hill, Kaitlyn and Scott Forbes of Bethalto and Kelli and Christopher Friedel of Bethalto; eight grandchildren, Riley, Logan, Parker, Brooklyn, Bennett, Val, Laila and Jacob; a sister, Teressa Maus of Waterloo; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Torrez; a sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Mike Besserman; a brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Terry Leisner and a brother-in-law, Rick Maus.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jesse Tedder officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the family or to Got Your Six Support Dogs and may be accepted at the funeral chapel.


Evelyn Laverne (Mangrum) TEETOR, beloved mother to 2 children, passed away peacefully on Apr. 26, 2025 at the age of 93. Born in Cobden,IL onJune 14, 1931 to Edgar and Ruby Mangrum.

Evelyn lived her entire life in Illinois.  She was a homemaker and raised 2 children in Granite City, IL until they both married and moved away.  You could count on Evelyn to have a clean house and supper on the table every night.

She enjoyed gardening, cats and scary movies.  She loved to travel to Southern Illinois to visit her mom, dad and brother, and most summers the family would drive to California to see her sister and go to Disneyland. She insisted on eating at restaurants that had baked potatoes.  Evelyn enjoyed socializing with friends at their house and playing pinochle.  She and her husband were longtime members of the Moose Lodge.  They both enjoyed the “Big Band” music era and dancing.  Evelyn was the “Queen of Hearts” at their annual ball.

She is survived by one son, John Stephen Teetor and daughter-in-law, Rosalinda Cisneros Teetor, 7 grandchildren, Gary (Gena) Spray, Misty (Ryan) Hawthorne, Travis and Lucas Teetor, and Antonio, Javier and Roberto Alvarado, 10 great-grandchildren, Baylie, Lynnzie and Shelbie Borth, Payten Hawthorne, Madison Spray, and Tony, Niko, Cain, Vienna and Mia Alvarado, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, Aiden, and Alana Edwards, and Grayson Barraza.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Carol Spray, former husband, John Orville Teetor, brother, Eddy Mangrum, and sister, Elizabeth Moerlein.

Danny Gene Linhart, 72, of Granite City, IL, died at 2:14 a.m. Wed. Apr. 23, 2025 at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis, MO.

He was born Sept. 23, 1952 in Cape Girardeau, MO to the late Bevley “Sonny” and Mary (Fowler) Linhart.

Danny was a U.S. Army veteran and had served in Vietnam.   He had worked for Luxfer Graphic Arts for 42 years.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Stephanie Ritchie of Fairview Heights, IL and Chasidy Linhart of Alton, IL, 2 sons, Danny Linhart Jr. and David Ray Linhart of Granite City, 7 grandchildren, Monte and Kayla Ritchie, Caitlyn and Heather Clark, Megan, Matthew, and Brenda Donithian, and Adriana and Zachary Linhart,  many great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, Charles Linhart, Earnie Linhart, and Alvin Linhart, and a sister, Kathy Hanna.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Shawna Clark, a granddaughter, Brittany Nicole Ritchie, son-in-law, Jody Ritchie, 3 brothers, Jerry, Norvel Dean, and Rev. Eddie Linhart, and 5 sisters, Gerlean Parker, Peggy Johnson, Anita Johnson, , Chryl Carter and Edna Hendrix.

Mark Victor Naglich, 66, of Granite City, IL, died Wed. Apr. 23, 2025 at his home.

He was born Mar. 15, 1959 in Granite City to the late Mike Charles and Arleen Marie (Liesmann) Naglich.

Mark was a U.S. Navy veteran, an artist and a traveler.

Survivors include 2 children, Holly Hoelscher of Marina Del Ray, CA, and Nathan Naglich of Hood River, OR, a grandson, Aiden Hoelscher, 2 brothers, Mike Naglich, and David Naglich, and a sister, Chris Catney.

His memory lives on through the bonds and relationships that were forged by the people in his life.

Barbara Sue Travis, 86, of Granite City, IL, died at 5:10 a.m. Fri. Apr. 25, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family while under hospice care.

She was born Mar. 18, 1939 in Granite City to the late Merle Otis and Lillian Violet (Richards) Stewart.

Barbara was a member of Calvary Life Church. She loved to embroider and quilt by hand, arrange silk flowers and color.

She is survived by 3 children, Vickie (Jim) Eberhart of Winchester, TN, Lawrence (Sandra) Travis Jr. of Granite City, and Dawn Godair of Granite City, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Travis Sr., a daughter, Starlet Travis, a son-in-law, Michael Godair, a brother, Ray Mercer, and a sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Bob Keeton.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until time of services at 7:00 p.m. Mon. Apr. 28, 2025 at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Mark Maynard officiating.  Cremation will follow.

Richard Lee Niehaus Jr., 64, of Granite City, IL, died at 12:46 p.m. Tues. Apr. 22, 2025 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

He was born Dec. 11, 1960 in East St. Louis, IL to the late Richard L. and Zella L. (Holman) Niehaus Sr.

Richard married Rene Lemons of Madison, IL on Dec. 30, 1983 and she survives.

Richard played football through high school at Madison High School.  He was a volunteer fire fighter and EMT with the Madison Fire Department.  He was also employed at by Fox Warehouse of Granite City and then went on to become a truck driver.  “Big Rich” as he was affectionately known, was an avid fisherman.  All he talked about was fishing, and football and baseball as a Cardinals forever fan.  He was also known as the “Crappie Master” and had many stories to go with that title.  Richard was also a proud father and grandfather and was known to his grandkids as “PaPa” and “Pa” and he will be forever missed.  Richard had so many wonderful friends.  He never forgot a memory or a story and that told of their friendship and what that meant to him.  

In addition to his longtime companion, Rene, he is survived by a daughter, Amy Lynn Jett of Glen Carbon, IL, a son-in-law, Timothy Jett of Collinsville, IL, 3 grandchildren, Maisie Jett, Dustin (Jessica) Jett, and Ashley Jett, 6 grandchildren, Braden, Isabella, and Byrsen Gaunt, and Ryder, Easton, and Reese Jett, a brother, Jeffrey (Sharon) Niehaus of Granite City, a sister, Rhonda Skalak of Joliet, IL, aunts, Patricia Niehaus of Granite City, Barbara (Donald) Mullens of IN, and Joyce Holman of Madison, IL, mother-in-law, Della Gean of Edwardsville, IL, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brittany Jett, 2 brothers, Robert Wayne Niehaus, and Christopher Allen Niehaus, 2 sisters, Laura Peach, and Cynthia Niehaus Heady, and grandparents, Arthur and Rhetta Cooper Niehaus, and William and Dorothy Holman.

Allen Edward “Al” Jenness, age 85, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

He was born in Decatur, Illinois on May 17, 1939, the son of the late W. Perry and Josephine (White) Jenness.

On March 3, 1962, Al married Joyce Ann (Vizer) Jenness in Granite City, Illinois and she passed away on March 25, 2018. Together they had a family of four children and he cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren. 

He retired from Crane National Vendors after 52 years of dedicated service. Al was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the United Catholic Credit Union for 18 years and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Tri-Cities Council #1098 in Granite City. He was an avid Rum card player with his good friends at the Knights of Columbus. He had a great sense of humor and the ability to remember jokes and loved to share them with family and friends.

He is survived by his loving children, Michelle Ficker, Laura (Scott) Koberna, Kristin (Brad) Koehnemann and Adam (Jill) Jenness; cherished grandchildren, Steven Ficker, Joel Ficker, Rose Ficker, Natalie (Joe) Pawlak, Joseph (Molly) Koberna, Rachel Koehnemann, Drew Koehnemann, Jillian Jenness and Ella Jenness; great granddaughter, Elaine Koberna; extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City, Illinois on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until time of a Funeral Mass at 12:00 noon with Father Alfred Tumwesigye as celebrant.

Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, Illinois. Memorials may be made to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Tri-Cities Council or to Masses.


Wayne L. Stickferd, 72, of Madison, Illinois, passed away at 1:04 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois.

He was born August 8, 1952, in Granite City, Illinois, a son of the late William and Edna (Barr) Stickferd.

Wayne retired in 2023 from Metro Bi-State Transportation after 32 years of dedicated service as a commissary manager. He had previously worked as a bus mechanic at Greyhound Bus Lines with 20 years of service.

He loved his days of motorcycle riding, camping and canoeing. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

He is survived by his significant other of 40 years, Rebecca Narvarez of Madison; a sister, Donna Flaugher of Granite City; a brother, Darrel (Shannon) Stickferd of Piedmont, Missouri; stepson, Michael Allen Pratte of Granite City; two grandsons, Ian Narvarez and Andrew Pratte; four nephews, Curtis (Michelle) Flaugher of Carrollton, Cody Stickferd of Patterson, Missouri, Colton (Katie) Stickferd of Patterson, Missouri and Clay Stickferd of Piedmont, Missouri; a niece, Terry (Chad) Bauer of Alton; other extended family and friends.

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ronald Flaugher.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Garnet Moran, age 90, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Garnet was born on March 21, 1935, in Granite City, IL, a daughter of the late Frank G. Griffith Sr., and Charlene E. (Settle) Griffith.

On August 1, 1953, Garnet Griffith married George A. Moran, the love of her life at the Methodist Church in Granite City, IL., and George passed away on March 28, 2013. Garnet was a proud homemaker who cherished every moment she spent taking care of her family. She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Granite City, IL. Garnet loved sports and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and all GCHS Warriors teams.

She formed a special bond with everyone she met, and each person has a special memory about her. Garnet had a way of making everyone smile. Whether it was a compliment, a funny story or a simple hand squeeze. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Garnet will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and Husband, Garnet was preceded in death by her brothers, Gerald Griffith and Frank Griffith Jr.

Michael W. Freeman, 77, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 6:38 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at his home.

He was born December 3, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of the late James and Gladys (Junior) Freeman.

He married the love of his life, Barbara Ann (McMillen) Freeman on March 20, 1971, in Granite City and she survives.

Michael retired in 2001 from Granite City Steel after 30 years of service as a steelworker. The United States Army veteran proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and loved his days of a good road trip. He was a supporter and attended Bikers for Babies every year and enjoyed attending Little Sturgis in Kentucky and his many trips through Arkansas, New Orleans and the Ozarks in Missouri.

In addition to his beloved wife of 54 years, he is survived by a daughter, Dawn Schulte and partner, Jason Young of Waterloo, Illinois; grandson, Brendyn Daugherty of Granite City; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Schulte of Waterloo, Illinois and Juleana Schulte of Waterloo, Illinois; three sisters, Judy Baynes, Linda Crabtree and Rosa Engler; special niece and nephew and their children, Karlie and Adam Truckenmiller and Grace Ann and Ian Truckenmiller; other nieces and nephews; extended family and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his biological mother, Lula May (Junior) Riddle and a sister, Myrtle May.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.

Procession of family and friends will follow with the Patriot Guard leading. A service with full military honors will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri with Pastor Mark Maynard officiating.

Michael Edward Copeland, 65, of Alton and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 2:03 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Alton Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 18, 1959, in Granite City, Illinois, a son of the late Melvin “Jackie” and Barbara (Hawk) Copeland.

He married Stephani J. (Hetherington) Davison Copeland on November 12, 2022, in Alton and she survives.

Mike worked out of the Laborer’s Local #397 with over 25 years of dedicated service. He was a skilled handyman and was always working on a project.

He enjoyed his days of shooting pool, playing cards, fishing and being on a beach. Mike was always there to help others, had a love for animals and always enjoyed barbecuing and having people get together for a party. He cherished his children and grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife and sweetheart since 1999, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Chris Beas of Topeka, Kansas and Brittany Davison and Zach McGeehon of Granite City; a son, Josh Davison of Bethalto; three grandchildren, Hayden and Rilyn Beas of Topeka, Kansas and Jude Davison of Bethalto; two brothers, Steve Copeland of Granite City and Jack Copeland of Granite City; a sister-in-law, Loretta “Retzi” Copeland of Granite City; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Janet and Pat Harris of Granite City; brother-in-law, John Hetherington of Granite City; nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Sharon Autenrieth officiating.

The family requests that casual attire be wore because Mike would want everyone to be relaxed and comfortable.

Mildred Maxine DeBruce, age 97, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, at her home. Mildred was born on September 6, 1927, in Big Sandy, TN, a daughter of the late Ernie Mannon and Jewell (Winters) Mannon.

On February 19, 1947, Mildred Mannon married Joseph Tilden DeBruce, the love of her life in Corinth, MS., and Joseph passed away on January 27, 2006. In her younger years, Mildred taught first grade in a one room schoolhouse during World War II, and later on she worked at a candy factory in St. Louis, MO. Mildred’s greatest joy was being a proud homemaker who loved taking care of her family, whom she loved dearly. She was a faithful and active member of the Church of God Prophecy in East Alton, IL. She will be remembered as Christian lady who loved going to church to serve the Lord. Mildred will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mildred is survived by her loving sons, Ronnie DeBruce and Gary (Cathy) DeBruce, both of Granite City, IL, dear brother, Harvey Lynn Mannon of Belleville, IL, proud grandmother to Michael (Lauren) DeBruce and Melissa DeBruce, both of Granite City, IL, proud great-grandmother to Emma DeBruce, Abbie DeBruce and Symphony Smith, nephew, Steve Mannon, extended family and friends.

In celebration of her life, the visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Maggie Brooks and Rev. Randy Cowin officiating. Interment will in Benton Memorial Garden, Camden, TN, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. David Allen officiating.

Paul Kenneth DeGonia passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina.

Paul was 83, born in Granite City, Illinois, on October 24, 1941, a son of Clarence and Lorena DeGonia.

On September 2, 1961, Paul married Cathie Schaefer, of Granite City, Illinois.

He retired from CBS Broadcasting Corporation in 2017 where he was the Executive Director of the Advanced Television Technology Corporation in Alexandria, Viriginia, that did all the testing for high-definition television before it was released to the public.

He loved sailing the Chesapeake Bay and playing golf. In 2020 he and his wife, Cathie, moved from Maryland to South Carolina.

In addition to his wife, Cathie of sixty-three years, he is survived by his sons, Brian DeGonia of Elk Grove, California and Scott DeGonia of Hardeeville, South Carolina, his daughter-in-law, Debbie DeGonia and a grandson, Steve DeGonia of Hardeeville, South Carolina, a brother, Clarence DeGonia of Granite City, Illinois and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will take place in Hardeeville, South Carolina at a later date.

Evelyn Dean Russell, age 85, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Stearns Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Granite City, IL. Evelyn was born on March 28, 1940, in Dixon, MO., a daughter of the late Woodrow and Mildred (McDowell) Crismon.

On November 12, 1955, Evelyn Crismon married Aubrey “Ray” Russell, the love of her life in Mississippi. Evelyn was a proud homemaker who loved taking care of her family and she cherished every moment. Evelyn was a member of Second Baptist Church in Granite City, IL. She was a talented musician who enjoyed playing the organ in her free time. 

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her children, Bobby Russell, Tammy Myint and Cynthia “Cindy” Tucker, and by her sisters, Glennis McCracken and Margie Kersey.

June Marie Bernaix, age 79, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. 

June was born on June 1, 1945, in St. Louis, MO, a daughter of the late Everett Chastain Sr. and Gertrude (Kuelker) Chastain.

June will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. June graduated from Granite City High School in 1963.

On May 16, 1964, June Chastain married Charles Bernaix, the love of her life in Granite City, IL. June was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City, IL.

She retired from Granite City Library after many years of dedicated service, and June and Charles owned and operated Dairy Queen in Pontoon Beach, IL, for eight years. She enjoyed bowling and camping. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly. June will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Peters and by a brother, Everett Chastain Jr.

She is survived by her devoted husband of sixty years, Charles Bernaix of Granite City, IL, loving children, Darren (Michelle) Bernaix, Maria (Brian) Decker and Matthew Bernaix, dear siblings, Harold Chastain, Evelyn Hotson, and Kathleen Debost; proud grandmother to Nicole (Bobby) Simpson, Alyssa (Derek) Ross and Madison Chammess; proud great-grandmother to Kaylee Simpson, Maverick Simpson, Cole Simpson, Harper Williams and Hadley Ross, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until time of a funeral service at 12:00 noon with Pastor Charley Johnson officiating.

Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Edwardsville, IL. at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

Judy Ann Britton, 66, of Granite City, IL, died at 2:52 p.m. Tues. Apr. 8, 2025 at her home.

She was born Mar. 30, 1959 in Knoxville, TN to the late Robert and Ursula (Stahl) Murphy.

Judy loved to garden.

James “Jim” Naum Riskovsky Sr., age 84, of Madison, IL., passed away at his home on Monday, April 7, 2025. Jim was born on December 1, 1940, in Granite City, IL, the son of the late Naum and Christine (Atanas) Riskovsky.

Jim will be remembered as a hard-working family man who never met a stranger. He was a talented and accomplished mechanic, who could repair anything. He owned and operated Riskovsky Automotive in Madison, IL., for over 60 years and retired in 2022. Jim was highly active in his community, and was a dedicated Alderman in Madison, IL, for 16 years

He dedicated his life to helping people and making sure the City of Madison succeeded and progressed. Throughout his 65 years in business and 16 years as Alderman, he had the privilege of meeting hundreds of people and understood their needs and concerns. His community involvement and major accomplishments are far too many to mention, but he was most proud of serving as President of the Madison Lion’s Club, 3rd Vice President, Secretary, Zone Chairman, Leo Club Chairman for Lions of IL District lG and Deputy District Governor of IL. He organized the first Granite City Lion’s Club, as well as the first Leo Club (Youth Organization) in District lG. Jim also assisted in organizing the Pontoon Beach Lion’s Club. He received the Lion’s of the Year Award by the Madison Lion’s Club and was instrumental in organizing the Eye Donor Bank in the Gateway Regional Medical Center (formerly St. Elizabeth Hospital). Jim was also the first courier for the Eye Donor Bank in the Quad City area.

In addition to the Madison Lion’s Club, Jim was a member of the Elks Lodge and Bar Owners Association. Cars and motorcycles were his love and passion. Jim enjoyed drag racing, riding motorcycles, attending car shows and motorcycle shows. Over the years, Jim set numerous world records with his Little C Stocker, sponsored by Frawley Dodge, in the AHRA (American Hot Rod Association), in C stock automatic. He had more than 396 class wins and 286 money wins. In addition, Jim set a world record with his Dodge Dart in D stock automatic in the 1970’s. He also enjoyed going to antique shops, hoping to find something special. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, whom he loved dearly. Jim will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Riskovsky-Keifer, grandson, Joshua Glaus, brother-in-law, Troy Powell, and his fur-kitty, Grayson.

Robert Allen McElroy, 75, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 2:29 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at John Cochran V.A. Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

He was born December 5, 1949, in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of the late John Allen and Dorothy M. (Hudgins) McElroy.

He married the love of his life, Melody Jean (Pasley) McElroy on February 21, 1969, in Mitchell, Illinois and she survives.

Robert retired in 2012 from Granite City Steel after 42 years of dedicated service as a millwright. The United States Army veteran proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. 

He was a fan of NASCAR and enjoyed RC car racing and slot cars. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, had a love for all his pets through the years and cherished his family and friends. He enjoyed his many Florida trips with family and friends, walking on the beach and showing everyone a great time.

In addition to his beloved wife of 56 years, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Darrin Nichols of Marthasville, Missouri and Angie and Danial Kunst of Granite City; a son, Nathan McElroy of Granite City; five grandchildren, Zachary, Ashlyn, Brendan, Jaxon and Mia; his sister, Martha “Marty” Jarnagin of Granite City; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen McElroy; niece, Michelle Jarnagin and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cedric Guy and Shirley Pasley.

In celebration of his life, a service and military honors will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, with Father Steve Thompson officiating. A procession will be leaving Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City at 10:15 a.m. for those wishing to join.

Thelma Rella Knapp, 86, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 7:37 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

She was born August 15, 1938, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Joseph and Elma (Stephens) Rudnicki.

She married William N. Knapp on August 11, 1956, in Granite City and he survives.

She had worked for Susman Schermer Law Firm and various other firms as a legal assistant and paralegal throughout the years. Rella was a licensed minister and had served as a Director of Christian Education and as a bookkeeper with Tri-City Assembly of God. 

She was a faithful member of Tri-City Assembly of God Church where she was active with the Seasoned Saints, served as a Sunday school director and enjoyed teaching and studying the Bible. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends. Rella always enjoyed hosting a grand event or party. She enjoyed days of fishing, buying and selling antiques and was always ready to wear her jewelry and get dressed up for a special day. She was known to love her pink bubble gum and powdered sugar doughnuts.

In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by a son, William V. Knapp of Granite City; daughter-in-law, Judith A. Knapp of Granite City; sister, Carol Cooper of Granite City; three nieces and two nephews, Denise and Barry Shepherd of Granite City, Melissa and Rufus Valencia of Maryville and Melinda Cooper of Granite City; Goddaughter, Tessa Bierlein of Spring Hill, Tennessee; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Carol Crick of Edwardsville; several great nieces and great nephews; great-great nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Alan Knapp; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur and Ruth Knapp and a brother-in-law, Dennis Cooper.

Dorothy Lynn Mann, 66, of Granite City, IL, died Sun. Apr. 6, 2025 at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis, MO.

She was born Aug. 18, 1958 in Granite City to the late Harry Albert and Emma (Cook) Mann.

Dorothy worked as a C.N.A., starting in high school, for over 40 years at Stearns Nursing and Rehab.  She loved to cook and go to the casino.

Purple was her favorite color and she loved to help others.  Dorothy had hoped to return to Stearns as a volunteer to continue her passion of caring.  She also loved quilts that her niece, Pat Ray Hannan, made and they also enjoyed researching genealogy.

In addition to her niece, she is survived by her companion, Phil Richardson, of Granite City, a sister, Geraldine Mann Thiesen of St. Louis, MO and, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Robert Ray, and Robert Mann, and 2 sisters, Helen Mann Morehouse, and Irma Mann Harriett.

The family will hold a celebration of Dorothy’s life later in the summer.

Evelyn J. Heath, 90, of Paducah, KY, formally of Granite City, IL passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Parkview Nursing & Rehab Center in Paducah, KY.

She was born on June 11, 1934 in Wapella, IL to Curtis and Elza(Orrick) Austin.

Evelyn married James Heath in Sesser, IL on October 18, 1952.  He preceded her in death on December 17, 2012

The loving mother and grandmother retired from St. Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City.  She faithfully attended church and she enjoyed camping and flower gardening.

Evelyn is survived by a daughter, Linda (Kenneth) Dickerson of Paducah, KY; a son, Larry (Patricia) Heath of Granite City; 6 grandchildren:  Dennis (Lynn) Heath, Susan Heath, Michaela (Andy) Bannister, Michael Heath, Evie (Chad) Sherlock and Helen (Steven) Miller and 6 great grandchildren:  Devin Heath, Darah Heath, Levi Bannister, Michael Heath, Jr, Justin Heath and Olivia Bannister.  Also surviving are a sister, Velma Perryman of McLeansboro, Il; a daughter in law, Arlene Heath; special nieces, Kim (Terry) Wyant and Susan Atkins and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Heath; a son, James Howard Heath, Jr; 4 brothers:  Charles Austin, Dwayne Austin, Bud Austin and Lloyd Austin and 2 sisters:  Duene DeWitt and Thelma Norris.

Marilynn Jean Price, 90, of Highland, IL, formally of Granite City, IL,  passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in O’Fallon, IL.

She was born on July 24, 1934 in Jacksonville, IL to Hugh and Edna Mae (Newburn) Norfleet.

Marilynn married Evan “Wayne” Price in Alexander, IL on June 21, 1959.

Marilynn retired as a registered nurse from the SIUE Health Clinic in Edwardsville, IL.  She also worked for Dr. G.H. Wichterman in New Berlin, IL and at the TB clinic in Edwardsville as a travelling nurse.  Marilynn was a charter member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Granite City.  She was a member and had been the Past Worthy Matron of the New Hope Chapter of the Order of  Eastern Star 432 in Granite City.

Marilynn is survived by her husband; a daughter, Peggy Price of Highland, IL;  a brother, Richard Norfleet of Glen Carbon, IL and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Marilynn is preceded in death by a son, Jay Evan Price and her step mother, Isabel (Cully) Norfleet.

Debra “Debbie” Catherine Dotson, 62, of Granite City, IL, died on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

She was born on October 8, 1962, in St. Louis, MO, to William D. “Bert” and Mary “Mae” (Duepner) Dotson.

The loving mother and sister worked in promotional sales for Staples for the last six years.  She also liked to play pool and was in a pool league, loved all animals, and liked to watch crime shows.

Debra is survived by a daughter, Gina Whaley of Granite City, IL; three brothers:  Donald (Paula) Dotson of St. Peters, MO, Gary (Jane) Dotson of O’Fallon, IL, and James (Diane) Dotson of St. Charles, MO; three sisters:  Carol Dotson of O’Fallon, MO, Mary Jean (Toney) Rountree of Mountain Home, AR, and Linda Rohlfing of Maryland Heights, MO, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Debra was preceded in death by her parents.

Kenneth James Wingrove, 79, of Granite City, IL died on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, IL.

He was born on August 25, 1945 in Pontiac, MI to Vernon and Florence (Leach) Wingrove.

Kenneth married Angela Yeager in Edwardsville, IL in December 2001.

The loving husband, father and grandfather was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.  He retired from the U.S. Corps of Engineers in 2005 after serving as a maintenance foreman.  Kenneth was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1300 and AMVETS.  He was a member of the Granite City Eagles and was a 33rd degree Mason with the Granite City Masonic Lodge.  Kenneth enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting and beagles.

Kenneth is survived by his wife; 2 sons:  Eric Wingrove of Casper, WY and James (Heather) Wingrove of Fairview Heights, IL;  2 daughters:  Christine Wingrove-Schiller of Collinsville, IL and Renee (Bruce) Widel of Waterloo, IL; 11 grandchildren; 24 grandchildren; a step-son, Gregory Bulva of Granite City, IL;  2 step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Kenneth is preceded in death by a brother, Larry Wingrove and a sister, Yvonne “Elaine” Frank.

The family will hold a celebration of life and private burial at a later date.

Lynda Rose Leggett, age 89, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. Lynda was born on January 11, 1936, in St. Louis, MO., a daughter of the late Walter and Mona (Hendrick) Wilkinson.

Lynda was a Korean War veteran who proudly served her country in the United States Navy. She met the love of her life at the Marine Corps Ball and on December 17, 1955, Lynda married James Leggett in Granite City, IL., and James passed away on January 6, 1982. Lynda retired from Mittendorf Meat Company in St. Louis, MO., after many years of dedicated service. 

She was a member Central Christian Church in Granite City, IL. Lynda was also a former member of Rebekah Lodge, Eastern Star and served on the board of Community Care Center. Lynda enjoyed volunteering at many community events and charities throughout the Granite City area. She enjoyed making crafts, playing cards and going out to eat with her dear friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren. Lynda loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and friend who never met a stranger. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lynda was preceded in death by her siblings, Robert Fisher, George Wilkinson and Helen Gages.

Nelda M. Vinson, age 89, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. Nelda was born on September 1, 1935, in Granite City, IL, a daughter of the late Otto and Helen (Armentrout) Knipping.

Nelda will be remembered as a caring mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Nelda worked at Friedman’s Hardware Store in Madison, IL., for over thirty years. She then worked in the office for Dr. Gunawardhana at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City, IL., for fourteen years. Nelda enjoyed reading romance books, quilting, playing bingo, trying her luck at the gambling boats and her Saturday family dinners, followed by some intense card games. 

Though often cantankerous, she did enjoy spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly. Nelda will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Nelda was preceded in death by her daughters, Susan A. Vinson and Rose M. Pingolt, and by her siblings.

She is survived by her son, George “Buddy” (Sarah) Vinson Jr. of Granite City, IL, proud grandmother to Emma (Ben Canizales) Vinson of Manchester, MO, Alex Vinson of Granite City, IL, Sarah Pingolt of Moro, IL and John Pingolt of Granite City, IL, dear son-in-law, Michael Pingolt of Granite City, IL, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Mary Jean Brooks, age 72, formerly of University City, MO., and had resided most of her life in O’Fallon, MO., passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at her Son’s home in Granite City, IL, where she was currently living.

Mary was born on October 13, 1952, in University City, MO, a daughter of the late Albert and Irene C. (Levendowski) Hauswirth.

Mary will be remembered as a loving Wife, Mom, Sister, Nana, GreatNana, Aunt and Friend. On June 20, 1975, Mary Jean Hauswirth married Herman Lee Brooks, the love of her life in St. Louis, MO., and Herman passed away on January 25, 2018.

They were married over 40 years when Butch passed. Mary started her career as a licensed cosmetologist in Missouri. Over the years she enjoyed working at different beauty shops throughout the Saint Louis and O’Fallon, MO., area. Mary did hair until she couldn’t stand any longer and switched to Call Center, Customer Service roles. Over the years she also helped Butch operate his Concrete businesses. She was a former member of Assumption Catholic Church in O’Fallon, MO., until she moved to Granite City, IL. Mary then became a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City. She enjoyed playing every type of bingo imaginable, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Mary loved a family game of Dominoes, a Family dinner, Church Festivals, Holiday celebrations and just loved life, she loved to laugh and have a good time. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving children, Joe Brooks of Granite City, IL, Jennifer Brooks of Maryland Heights, MO.
