{"id":5374,"date":"2022-01-31T23:48:48","date_gmt":"2022-02-01T05:48:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/granitecitygossip.com\/?page_id=5374"},"modified":"2022-01-31T23:49:29","modified_gmt":"2022-02-01T05:49:29","slug":"continue-reading-are-you-prepared","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/granitecitygossip.com\/index.php\/continue-reading-are-you-prepared\/","title":{"rendered":"Continue reading Are You Prepared."},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"fonts-plugin-block \" style=\"font-weight: normal;font-size: 20px;text-align: center\"><strong>Are You Prepared?<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"fonts-plugin-block \" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><strong><em>Water is Life<\/em><\/strong>&#8211; The body needs H2O to operate appropriately and begins to shut down after 2 to 3 days.\u00a0 One day of dehydration can inhibit judgment and make you venerable to toxins.<br><br><strong><em>Food is Fuel<\/em><\/strong>&#8211; When stores run bare, it can lead to tension and fear among the community.\u00a0 Everyone has food at the house, but if you need to leave, you will need emergency food kits (non-perishables).\u00a0 The human body can go a couple of weeks without food, but you need the energy to stay alert and strong to battle the environment and inhabitants.\u00a0<br><br><strong><em>Remain Warm and Dry<\/em><\/strong>&#8211; No one can count on great weather all the time.\u00a0 Even at home, you need to ensure your body temperature is at safe levels with blankets, ponchos, and hand warmers.\u00a0 Clothes specific to the environment (winter\/summer).\u00a0 Ensure you have a safe area for fire to ensure safe drinking water.\u00a0<br><br><strong><em>Hygiene is Key<\/em><\/strong>&#8211; Staying healthy in an emergency includes a regular daily routine of hygiene maintenance, teeth brushing, shaving, and washing.\u00a0 Keeping the body clean can stave off diseases and infections.\u00a0 Prepare with feminine care supplies, diapers, etc., specific to your family\u2019s needs.\u00a0 Staying clean can also keep you serene during times of disruption.<br>\u00a0 \u00a0<br><strong><em>Light the Way<\/em><\/strong>&#8211; Ensure you have adequate lighting during a time of emergency.\u00a0 Again, this includes fire to aid in food and water sources.\u00a0<br><br><strong><em>Be Ready to Work<\/em><\/strong>&#8211; There is no time for complacency in an emergency.\u00a0 You must do your part to make it through an emergency event.\u00a0 Since cuts, scrapes or injuries are the last things you want to deal with in these circumstances, you need to have gloves, multi-tools, screwdrivers, and can openers.<br>\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<br><strong><em>Radio<\/em><\/strong>&#8211; Cell phones and landlines are never promised in emergencies.\u00a0 Make sure you have a method to contact friends and family.\u00a0 Have a family plan already in action.\u00a0 Emergency Band Radios can aid in outdoor communications.\u00a0 You will need a whistle, map, and compass with the radio.\u00a0 If you manage to find power during these situations, keep all devices charged.\u00a0 Social media updates can mean the difference between life and death.\u00a0<br>If there are no power outlets or rendered useless, make sure to have powering equipment to harness the sun or via hand crank.\u00a0 Get a solar-powered multi-device outlet.\u00a0<br> \u00a0\u00a0<br><strong><em>Medical Emergency<\/em><\/strong>&#8211; Basic first aid is a necessity.\u00a0 First Aid Kit, bandages, gauze, bacteria-killing ointment, and basic pain meds are a must.\u00a0 Tourniquets and burn creams should be in the kit.\u00a0 Minor injuries can progress into bigger problems if not addressed quickly and thoroughly.<br>If you have to move in the blink of an eye, stashing small waterproof backpacks and side pouches makes traveling easier.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br><em>Many of us had to learn preparedness the hard way this year.\u00a0 So, there are no more excuses to stay oblivious.\u00a0 If you are not prepared to survive a disaster for at least 72 hours, you are running an unnecessary risk for yourself and any dependents.\u00a0 Give yourself some much-needed peace of mind by thinking ahead.\u00a0 When the time comes, it will be worth it! \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><br>\u00a0<br>Create Your Emergency Supply Kits:\u00a0 \u00a0<br><strong><em>Insulation:<\/em><\/strong><br>Jacket<br>Gloves<br>Hat<br>Emergency Poncho<br><strong><em>Illumination\/Heat\/Fire:<\/em><\/strong><br>Flashlight<br>Batteries<br>Lanterns<br>Candles<br>Matches<br>Lighter<br>Firestarter<br>Fritos-You can eat them, of course, but did you know that you can use them for starting a fire? Keep a small bag of them in your pack with some waterproof matches, and they burn better than paper or grass to start a fire!
