A relatively new Madison County resident is exploring his new town and surrounding region through a docuseries with a paranormal twist.\u00a0
\u201cI moved here a year ago,\u201d actor Colton Baumgartner, 32, said. \u201cI was living in New Orleans, getting a divorce from my ex-husband. I literally closed my eyes and pointed to a destination on a map, and here I am, a year later.\u201d\u00a0
Baumgartner\u2019s docuseries, \u201cMy Haunted History,\u201d will explore the haunted histories of Granite City, Alton and St. Louis, as well shooting across America, while exploring the small businesses and people who make up the region in an interview format.\u00a0
\u201cI\u2019m bringing out areas that are not-so well-known,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnyone who lives in a small town in America grows up to hear haunted stories about their town, or wherever we are and wherever we\u2019re going.\u201d\u00a0
\u201cMy Haunted History\u201d is in pre-production now, for which he still is seeking funding, and will begin filming at the end of December, while Baumgartner is working with an executive producer. Baumgartner also will film some in February.\u00a0 (Read rest of article<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n

Granite City\u2019s Ward 4 Alderman Brad Eavenson talks about the Downtown area of the city and the newest attractions that make our community a fun place to visit for the holiday season.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

If you have not recently been in our downtown area, take a few minutes and check it out. Civic Park is decorated with lights as are several of the businesses and our city street lights. Of course, the nostalgic Santa Cabin is the centerpiece of the park. Please take the kids to look in the windows of the cabin. It\u2019s a step back in time that reminds me of the downtown St. Louis store windows of the 60\u2019s. Santa of course is in the theater and available for pictures.

Take the kids and check out the decorations inside the theater. Take in a movie while you are there. Great seating, reasonably priced concessions make it a great family night. The new Spiderman movie is featured now.

If you have not been to Granite City\u2019s newest place to be, check out Tinsel Town in the former Lascelles building. They feature some great drink specials in a very nicely decorated setting. Everyone I have talked to has been very pleased with their experience and several of those people came from outside our city. It is a great place to show that G.C. is stepping up our game thanks to young entrepreneurs like Emily Gavilsky.

We hope to see places like the Garden Gate and the Downtown Diner reopened soon. Jerry\u2019s Cafeteria is of course open and ready to serve your family.
The city is working on several projects in the downtown TIF area including repairs of curbs, gutters and sidewalks as well as some property acquisitions. We want our downtown to be a place where people can go to have a nice evening in one of several businesses.

Please support local business owners. Music stores, gift shops, tanning and nail salons all make for great gift card purchases. Why give the big corporations money when you can help a local business? The scouts from Cub Scout Pack 103 were mighty busy Saturday collecting 1,628 items for the annual “Scouting For Food Drive”.
