Tri-City Speedway, the long\u2011running Granite City motorsports venue operated by Kevin and Tammy Gundaker, has been officially put up for sale. The announcement came from their son, Trevor Gundaker, who shared the news in a Facebook post earlier this week.<\/p>\n\n

Kevin and Tammy have decided it is time to step away from operating the track. In his post, Trevor wrote that for \u201cthe last 20 something years mom and dad put their heart and soul into this place, spending countless amounts of money, trying to better everything for the better of dirt racing,\u201d and that in recent years he has watched them \u201cbeating themselves into the ground to try and do the thing they love.\u201d

Tri-City Speedway traces its roots back to 1961, when the track began hosting USAC Midget and Sprint Car races, making it one of the region\u2019s longest-running dirt racing venues. Over the decades it has gone through multiple configurations and ownership changes, but it has remained a fixture of the St. Louis-area racing scene, drawing national touring series and some of the sport\u2019s biggest names.

Kevin and Tammy Gundaker purchased Tri-City Speedway in 2005, adding their chapter to a history that already stretched more than four decades. Kevin\u2019s connection to the track goes back even further; he began racing there in 1973 before eventually becoming its owner and promoter. The facility was reconfigured into a 3\/8-mile dirt oval and steadily upgraded, helping it attract major late model, sprint car, and midget events while still serving as a weekly home for local racers.

Tri-City Speedway is widely regarded as a key stop on the Midwest dirt racing map.
