The City Council has officially approved the installation of red-light cameras at Maryville Road and Pontoon Road, a move aimed at improving safety and reducing violations.<br><br>The cameras will monitor all four directions of the intersection, capturing vehicles that run red lights. According to the Granite City Police Department, the enforcement period will begin with a grace phase: from now through January 19, violators will receive a warning notice mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle.<br><br>Starting January 20, however, the system will shift to full enforcement. Any vehicle caught running a red light will result in a citation being sent to the registered owner.<br><br>City officials say the decision was driven by concerns over frequent violations and near-miss accidents at the intersection.
