When Granite City High School\u2019s National Honor Society (NHS) members collected 1,151 <\/strong>food items this November, enough to fill three truck beds, they weren\u2019t just stocking local food pantries. They were carrying forward a tradition of service that has defined generations of Granite City students.

Founded in 1921, the National Honor Society is built on four pillars: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.<\/strong> Membership is reserved for students who excel academically while demonstrating integrity and civic responsibility. For Granite City High School, NHS has long been a proving ground for young leaders who balance classroom achievement with community impact.

The recent food drive, part of the annual Scouting for Food<\/em> campaign, showcased the power of collaboration between students and residents. Families placed donations in blue bags, and NHS members gathered them with enthusiasm and efficiency. District officials praised the effort, noting that it was \u201can honor for our students to support Scouting for Food and give back to the community.\u201d

The Granite City NHS\u2019s food drive is more than a one-day event; it\u2019s part of a living tradition. Each can of food collected, each hour volunteered, and each dollar raised reflects the enduring spirit of Granite City\u2019s youth. As these students graduate, they leave behind more than academic records, they leave a legacy of compassion, responsibility, and civic pride.

They make Granite City proud.
