These uninvited guests have arrived in full force, and they\u2019re treating our homes like cozy winter lodges.<br><br>Apparently, stink bugs love Granite City.  From the most modest of abodes to tri-level bricks, warm interiors, and plenty of nooks and crannies, Granite City is basically the Aspen of overwintering insects. They don\u2019t bite, they don\u2019t chew your furniture, and they don\u2019t pay taxes. They just loiter. Loudly. On your curtains.<br><br>These bugs release a pungent odor from glands on their abdomen when threatened, squished, or mildly inconvenienced. The scent? A mix of herbs, spices, and betrayal. It can linger for hours and cling to your vacuum like a bad decision.<br><br>Fun Facts You Didn\u2019t Ask For!<br><br>Illinois is home to 11 types of stink bugs, including the Brown Marmorated, Green Burgundy, and the mysteriously named Blue Shield (not covered by insurance).<br><br>They enter a dormant phase called diapause, but warm indoor temps can wake them up early, like tiny retirees who forgot they booked a cruise.<br><br>Some species can spray their stink several inches, which feels like a personal attack on your living room.<br><br>How to Deal With Them (Without Crying)<br><br>Don\u2019t squish them! That\u2019s like popping a stink balloon.  Vacuum them up but empty the bag quickly unless you want Eau de Bug lingering in your Dyson.<br><br>Seal entry points with caulk, weather stripping, or passive-aggressive notes.<br><br>Light traps can lure them in, but don\u2019t expect them to RSVP.<br><br>A Word from the Bugs (Probably)<br><br>\u201cWe\u2019re not here to hurt you.
