The decision follows U.S. Steel\u2019s earlier announcement to halt slab processing at Granite City by the end of October. <br><br>That plan was reversed after Trump enforced the \u201cgolden share\u201d provision tied to Nippon Steel\u2019s $15 billion acquisition of U.S. Steel. The golden share gives the U.S. government veto power over strategic decisions affecting domestic steel production.<br><br>Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed that Trump personally intervened to stop the closure.
