Beginning July 1, 2025, construction will commence on a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over Illinois Route 111, linking the Schoolhouse Trail between Lake Drive and Bruns Road.<br><br>This project will eliminate the current at-grade crossing over five lanes of traffic, offering a safer and more seamless experience for walkers, runners, and cyclists. The bridge is part of MCT\u2019s ongoing commitment to improving its 135+ mile trail system across Madison County.<br><br><strong>Trail Closure Notice<\/strong><br>To accommodate construction, this segment of the Schoolhouse Trail will be fully closed through March 31, 2026. Trail users are encouraged to plan alternate routes and check MCT Trails at <a href=\"https:\/\/mcttrails.org\/trail_closures\">https:\/\/mcttrails.org\/trail_closures<\/a> for updates.<br><br>The bridge is funded through a combination of local sources and a federal RAISE grant, with support from the Metro East Park and Recreation District.
