Saturday, December 03, 2022 was the city\u2019s Winter Wonderland Festival that began with the Annual Elf Walk and this year\u2019s first Mistletoe Market. Whether serving hot lunches to seniors who may otherwise go without, to planning a special Christmas party celebration the staff and volunteers always go the extra mile. The council concurred with the recommendation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Under Downtown Committee:<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Recommended and approved<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An amendment adjusting the budget for the Mill Event Center to eliminate work on the third floor and to use some of the funds elsewhere in the facility. The building will also have a full-service elevator under this amendment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Under Planning and Zoning: Recommended and approved:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An ordinance allowing ice cream trucks to operate on city streets. The ordinance contains explicit rules and regulations for these trucks to include many safety measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seven additional properties were approved for demolition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under Legal and Legislative Committee: Recommended and Approved: These ordinances are contingent on receiving grant funding from the state of Illinois. If grants are received the city and park district will undertake an intergovernmental project to provide our families with a splash pad recreation facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An ordinance to solicit requests for proposals for improvements to Worthen Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An ordinance to authorize a memorandum of understanding with the Granite City Park District concerning improvements to Worthen Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Under Public Works Committee: Recommended and approved:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An ordinance to create the part-time position of Animal Control Administrator in Granite City Municipal Code. The dogs and cats were made to feel part of the holiday as they are waiting for adoption or the safe return to their owners.<br><br>The caring staff of the facility took time from their own holiday celebrations to bring a bit of Thanksgiving comfort to these orphaned and lost animals. See those FB pages for more details about the events and schedules.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the Legal and Legislative committee, the council approved an ordinance that provides for an intergovernmental agreement between the City of Granite&nbsp;<a><\/a>and the Granite City Park District to construct a splash pad, a sand volleyball court, an expanded parking lot, dressing rooms and upgraded restrooms at the existing facility in Worthen Park. The city and park will apply for grants to make this project happen and will move forward only if awarded the funds. When built, this will provide a place for children and families to go which was one of the things people talked about in the last local election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The planning and zoning committee presented and approved several items tonight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A. Bid from One House at a Time for 2326 Hodges: The council approved a bid for our second project in our, \u201cOne House at a Time\u201d program. The home will be sold to a contractor who will renovate and sell to a first -time homebuyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>B. An ordinance annexing a tract of land along US Route 67 (Missouri Ave) to the city of Granite City. This is the property where the new gas station\/truck stop is being renovated on Missouri Avenue. The owner requested to be annexed into the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C. An ordinance to declare surplus and to solicit bids to purchase the properties commonly known as 1725 and 1733 Delmar Ave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D. An ordinance annexing 3425 and 3415 Missouri Avenue to the city of Granite City, Illinois<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E. An ordinance amending Building and Zoning ordinance 3818 article 4 regulations for specific districts section 4-900 c-2 neighborhood commercial district subsection 4-920, to add an additional permitted use of hospitals and clinics for animals without open kennels or exterior runs and under the management of a licensed veterinarian. This action will allow the Bellemore Animal Hospital to relocate to the former Junior Achievement building on Wabash. Stipulations were put in place by the zoning commission to make sure the concerns of the neighbors were addressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All items were approved by the council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finance Committee: The committee set a public hearing date for the Property Tax Levy ILCS5\/7-141.1 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police Committee 5:55 \u2013 6:05 A. An ordinance to authorize the purchase of sixteen Kenwood Tactical Microphones for the Granite City Police Department.
