Summer Book Giveaway Coming to The Mill on June 5

The Six Mile Regional Library District is teaming up with the Metro East Literacy Project to bring a little extra sunshine to the start of summer. On Friday, June 5 at 2:00 PM, they’ll be hosting a Summer Book Giveaway at The Mill, and it’s a great chance for local kids to stock up on stories for the months ahead.

Each child can pick out up to 25 free books, yes, twenty‑five, while supplies last. If you’ve got young readers in your life, or kids who might become readers once they find the right book, this is a perfect opportunity to help them build their own little home library.

The timing works out nicely, too. Right after the giveaway, the Animal Tales Summer Reading performance will be happening at the same location, so families can make an afternoon of it. Grab some books, stay for the show, and kick off summer break on a fun note.

The Metro East Literacy Project has been working for years to get books into the hands of kids who need them, and events like this really do make a difference. The library district is always good about offering programs that keep kids learning and engaged, especially during the long stretch between school years.

The event will be held at The Mill, located at 1311 20th Street in Granite City.

It’s first come, first served, so if you’ve got little ones who love to read, or little ones you wish loved to read, it might be worth heading over a bit early.
