Touring the Museum

Front Hall
The front hall features a beautiful stairway constructed of native pine.  The lights were originally located in the old Schildman Mortuary.

Living Room
The spool couch is from the Rode home, the spool end tables are from the Coolrdige home.  The square grand piano was built in 1854.  The red platform rocker was brought from England by the Larner Family in 1907.  The light fixture is from the Baker home in Madison, Illinois.  Other chairs and tables are from various Granite City families.

Kitchen
Note the two ovens in the coal/wood burning stove.  The pie safe dates back to 1837 and the buffet with dry sink displays circa 1890 kitchen utensils.

Summer Kitchen
Used for baking in the summer and as a washhouse in the winter, the Summer Kitchen displays laundry, apple butter, sauerkraut and butchering equipment.  Note the old time foot warmer.

Display Room
The Display Rooms contains Civil War artifacts, an Indian Collection, original graniteware and sever local exhibits.

Bedroom
The bed, dresser, chest and quilt are all over one hundred years old.  Note that the bedroom is equipped with all necessities…a wash bowl and pitcher and a “china pot” under the bed.

Sewing Room
The sewing machine, spinning wheel, quilt frame and body form, all used for clothes making are all over one hundred years old.

Smokehouse
Built after the Civil War, this room was used to smoke and store meats throughout the year.

Traveler’s Room
This guest room, built over the kitchen has been fully restored.
