Braden Todd Stowell, 18, of Granite City, Illinois, born February 27, 2005, in St. Louis, Missouri, passed away, Sunday October 29, 2023, at his home.
Braden was a 2023 graduate of Granite City High School, where he was a proud member of the Marching Warriors and played the trumpet. He was fascinated with aviation and rocket ships.
He was currently pursuing a degree in aviation and aspired to become a commercial pilot someday. He enjoyed playing video games and loved going fishing. He was a loving son, who will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Tami Braun and his paternal grandparents, Pat and Judy Stowell.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving parents, Amy (Clint Knight) Stowell, of Granite City, Illinois and Bryan (LynnDee) Stowell, of Rochester, Washington; his maternal grandfather, Danny Thompson; his siblings, Kaleb Hubbard, Auden Stowell, William “Willie” Dane, Jack Dane, Lillian Stowell, and Timothy “Timmy” Wilson; his aunts and uncles, Dave (Amanda) Gregory, Brandi Parker, Rodney (Lisa) Stowell, and Laura Stowell; his best friend, Devin Nail; and many other relatives and friends.

Rebecca A. Wingerter, 62 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
Becky was born on February 10, 1961, in Granite City. She was the daughter of the late Duane and Patricia (Chapman) Crews.
Becky was a dedicated preschool teacher for Head Start in Granite City and other locations. In her free time, she enjoyed following sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, and could be found often taking weekend drives with her husband Mark.
Becky Wingerter never had a short trip to the grocery store, because everywhere she went, she ran into former students or their parents and had to catch up.
Becky was known for her kind and loving heart and will be remembered for all the special times she shared with her family and friends.
Becky is survived by and will be missed by her high school sweetheart, Mark Wingerter, whom she married in 1987; sons, Justin and Megan Wingerter, of Arvada, Colo., and Nathan Wingerter and fiance Kristina Martin, of Granite City; sister, Sheila Crews, of Granite City; and many other close family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of Becky’s life, funeral services will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road in Granite City.

Richard J. Bronnbauer, Jr, 65, of Granite City, Il died on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Granite Nursing & Rehab Center in Granite City, Il.
He was born on June 10, 1958 in Granite City, IL to Richard J. Bronnbauer, Sr and Bonnie (Wilson) Bronnbauer.
Richard enjoyed collecting horror DVD’s and collecting super hero characters. He was a fan of Elvis and the group KISS.

Charles Ray Cooper, 72, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 12:15 a.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023, at Granite Nursing and Rehab in Granite City.
He was born November 15, 1950, in Granite City, a son of the late James and Rose (Ceresero) Cooper.
Charles retired from the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Marines Corp. Charles enjoyed his days of playing golf and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with family and friends.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Beth and Katie; a sister, Roseann Koelker; a brother, Terry Cooper; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and he will be buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

Terry Michael Cooper, 75, of Granite City, Illinois, born October 10, 1948, in Granite City, Illinois, passed away on October 28, 2023, in Belleville, Illinois.
Terry proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp, during Vietnam. He was highly decorated for his efforts in Vietnam including being awarded a Purple Heart Medal. After his discharge from service, Terry spent many years in Hawaii, soaking up the sun and enjoying island life. He was a free spirit, who was always ready for a good time with friends and family. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rose, nee Ceresero, Cooper; his brother, Charles Ray Cooper; his brother-in-law, Harold C. “Dee Dee” Koelker, Jr.; and his nephew, Harold C. “Lil Dee Dee” Koelker, III.
Surviving are his sister, Roseann Koelker, of Venice, Illinois; his nephews, Jim (Nancy) Koelker, Steven Koelker, and Michael (Bridgette) Koelker; and many other relatives and friends.

Mitchell William Abbett, 65, of Granite City, Illinois, born November 1, 1957, in Granite City, Illinois, passed away, October 27, 2023, peacefully at home.
Mitchell was a parishioner at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City, Illinois. He loved wood turning and enjoyed making beautifully crafted pieces. He began learning to play the guitar and had quite the bourbon collection.
He loved to cook and was considered the family “Chef”. He also enjoyed fishing and trivia. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Roscoe and Betty Ruth, nee Meyers, Abbett.

Linda Sue McMurray, 70, of Granite City, Illinois, born October 18, 1953, in Granite City, Illinois, passed away October 27, 2023, in St. Louis, Missouri.
Linda was a past Women’s Auxiliary Member of VFW Post #7451 in Madison, Illinois. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and any arts and crafts. Linda was a social butterfly that enjoyed drinking a cold soda and talking with friends and strangers alike, at Ken’s Lounge in Granite City.
She was a caregiver by nature and worked in the healthcare field all her life, including 42 years at SEMC/Gateway Hospital in Granite City, Illinois.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Blythe and Gertrude, nee Glenville, McMurray; her sister, Sharon Grubbs; and her longtime partner, Charles Wilson.

Mark D. Bradshaw Sr. 69, of Warrenton, Missouri and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at his home.
Mark was born on August 27, 1954 in Granite City; the son of the late Clyde and Helen (Bone) Bradshaw.
Mark was a crane operator at U.S. Steel retiring after 43 years of faithful service and was a huge St. Louis Rams Football fan, often going to games with his friends to support his team. Mark could often be found grilling with his family and making hot wings and drinking his Busch Beer.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.
Mark is survived by and will be missed by his loving wife; Carrie (Bowles) Bradshaw, whom he married on November 19, 2010; his children, Mark and Liz Bradshaw Jr. of Perryville, MO, Holly and Shane Phillips of Granite City, IL; step-children, Joshua Sikes of Granite City, IL, Lori Swick of Cleveland, OH; grandchildren, Izabella Hileman, Hunter Phillips, Allison Bradshaw, Hayden Bradshaw, Max Bradshaw, Owen Bland, Summer Sikes; nephew, Mark G. Terry Ray Bates Sr., 73, of Granite City, IL passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023 at St. Louis University Hospital.
He was born to the late Clayburn Bates and Viola (Mcguiness) Kite on April 15, 1950 in East Saint Louis, IL.
Terry worked as a machine operator at Cerro Copper and Brass, where he retired after 40 plus years. He loved to spend his free time watching movies and listening to classic music.
What he loved most was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
Terry is survived by 4 daughters: Tracy Rousan, Jenny Bates, Demetria Selimic, Shelly Bates; a son: Terry Bates Jr; 4 grandchildren; Roy Glasco, Danielle Glasco, Alex Cunningham; Heaven (Megan) Kraushaar; 3 great grandchildren; Rylee Glasco, Liam Cox, Ryker Knoll: 2 brothers: John Kite, Robert Bates; 5 sisters: Debbie Soloman, Mary Kusmer, Peggy Bates, Janet Rivera and Nevado Bates; and many nieces and nephews.

David Alexander Miller, 69, of Granite City, IL passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Belleville Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL due to complications from heart & kidney failure.
David was born to the late Eleanor (Goode) Miller Stafford on October 8, 1954 in New York and was raised by his maternal grandparents in Halstead, KS.
He earned a M.S. Psychology & Ed.S. Counseling & recently retired from the MO Dept of Health after a 30+ year career as a Mental Health Counselor.
David was a proud Licensed Amateur Ham Radio Operator, an avid Telsa fan, enjoyed Renaissance Fairs, Comic Cons and loved to travel. He lived for coffee & all things technology or cosmos related.
David is survived by sisters: Rebecca Stafford and Laura Miller of Los Angeles, CA; Kathleen Watkins of New York; a brother: Aram Stafford of Los Angeles, CA; a brother-in-law: Robert Stoppkotte; and sister-in-laws: Sandra E. Stoppkotte and Lorrie E. Stoppkotte of Granite City, IL.
Besides his parents, grandparents, and sister: Melora Stafford Holley, David is preceded in death by his fiancé, the love of his life for the last 45+ years, Janet Lee Stoppkotte.

Jason Marshall Brooks, 47, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at Mercy Hospital South in Sappington, Missouri on Saturday, October 21, 2023.
He was born February 5, 1976, in Granite City, Illinois. Jason was a very talented and compassionate tattoo artist for over 20 years and was the owner and operator of Pandemic Ink in Granite City.
He was also a talented musician, playing the guitar and drums and enjoyed working with arts and crafts and watching movies. He had a love for animals and gave of his time and talent to do charity work for Pound Pets.
He cherished his children and grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by two sons, Tristan (Bre) Brooks of Granite City and Jadon Brooks of Granite City; two grandsons, Cole Brooks and Maverick Brooks; a brother, Danny Brooks of Valley Park, Missouri; a sister, Tara (Drew) Mabie of Imperial, Missouri; two nephews; Andrew Brooks and Augie Brooks; a niece, Vanessa Carman; his cats, Oscar and Terrence; other extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Danny Brooks and Arlene (Trojanowski) and Richard Murnan.

Marcella “Marcie” Sue Johnson, nee McElroy, 77, of Troy, Illinois, formerly of Granite City, Illinois, born October 31, 1945 in Franklin, North Carolina, passed away, October 24, 2023 in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Marcie was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Granite City, Illinois. She also volunteered her time to the TWIG program with the church. She enjoyed shopping, sewing, and creating other arts and crafts. She loved her cats but not nearly as much as her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who will truly be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Johnson, and her parents, Marshall and Freddie, nee Hall, McElroy.

Jerry L. Tipton, 62, of Madison, Illinois, born July 15, 1961, in East St. Louis, Illinois, passed away, October 21, 2023, at his residence.
Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a former member of Roofers Local Union No. 2. He was an avid pool player and was a member of numerous leagues over the years. Jerry enjoyed kayaking, camping, and the outdoors. He was a loving husband and father, who will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in by his parents, Gerald and Mary, nee Flanigan and two siblings, Billy Tipton and Roger Tipton.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Rebecca L. Dale Harold Henson, 90, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 8:46 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
He was born October 13, 1933, in Farmington, Missouri, a son of the late Joe and Jessie (Anderson) Henson.
Dale worked throughout his life in construction, working for Henson Construction and also with Nationwide Construction.
He was a faithful and dedicated member of Calvary Life Church in Granite City. He loved his church and church family and spent many hours helping in any way possible around the church.
He loved watching Western movies and was usually eating M&M’s while watching. He also enjoyed his days of boating, fishing and going for a golf cart ride. He cherished his family and grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared.
He is survived by nine children and spouses, Roger Henson Sr. of Crystal River, Florida, Sherry (Dan) Rector of Farmington, Missouri, Karen Henson of Crystal River, Florida, Steve Henson of Berea, Kentucky, Kenny Henson of Belleville, Tonya (Lance) Reynolds of New Douglas, Cathie Ottinger of Granite City, Mike Jackson of Brighton, Tennessee and Sandy Lance of Hamilton, Ohio; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Henson of Pocahontas, Illinois; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two spouses, Gloria Henson and Mary Henson; a daughter, Barbara Gray; son-in-law, Mike McMillin; two brothers, Leo (Molly) Henson and Lawrence (Verla) Henson; two sisters, Vivian (T.J.) Ladyman and Beulah (Harold) Sebastian and sister-in-law, Elsie Henson.
In celebration of his life, a memorial service will be held at a later date. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.

Irene Marie Lux, nee O’Dell of O’Fallon, IL passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Memorial Hospital, in Belleville
Irene was born on March 7, 1940 in Venice, IL to parents, Beatrice O’Dell, nee Garris, and Herman O’Dell.
Working in the family business since her early teens, she retired as President of O’Dell’s Iron and Metal in 2009.
Irene enjoyed traveling with various family members and truly spoiled her kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Christmas was always special with piles of presents, great food, and love. She loved cooking for the family, and her Chicken and Dumplins were always in high demand.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Melinda (Lux) Rader, parents, Herman and Beatrice O’Dell, mother and father in-law, Clara and Percy Lux, great grandson – Blaine Rader, siblings Delores Joplin, Brenda Weston, and William O’Dell.
Irene is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Richard, whom she married on July 30, 1966, her daughter, Debbie (Roger) Maurer, son in law, Steve Rader and his wife Nancy, grandchildren, Jacob (Julia) Maurer, Mark (Melissa) Maurer, Michael Maurer, Amber Rader, Steven (Kayla) Rader, great grandchildren, Aubriana, Adrian, Anderson, Asher, and Aurora Maurer, Caden Barnette, and Brayden Rader. Also surviving are her sister Beverly Smith, adopted sister Kimberly O’Dell, adopted stepsister Karen Yager, brother in-law Earl Joplin, several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Philip Lee Lance, 77, of Granite City, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023 in his home.
He was born on November 16, 1945 in Granite City, IL to the late James “Paul” Lance and Mina (Cripps) Lance. He served 6 years in the US Navy and when he returned he worked as an Inspector for Olin Brass.
He was married to Shirley Marie Marler, she precedes him in death. Philip was a great person; he loved to make people laugh.
He is survived by 3 daughters: Nancy Strubberg, Paula (Kyle) Archer, Pamala (Nelson) Calahan-Robaina; a son: Phillip Calahan; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he is preceded in death by a son: Mark Copeland; 2 brothers: James Lance Jr, Grover Lance; and a sister: Dorothy Parks.

Fay Chenevert, 87, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 11:54 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Stearns Nursing and Rehab in Granite City. She was born August 10, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Theron and Marjorie (Wyatt) Vincent. She married the love of her life, Jeremiah “Jerry” Chenevert on August 31, 1955, and he preceded her in death. Fay was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother who will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family.
Throughout the years, she had a love of sports and enjoyed attending sporting events of her children and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Blues hockey. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Lowell “Wayne” Myers of Pacific, Missouri; a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Kammy Chenevert of Maryville, Illinois; and three grandchildren, Wayne and Samantha Myers, Jessie Myers and Pami Myers; sixteen great grandchildren; other extended family and friends. Helen Marie Gages, 102 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Liberty Village in Maryville.
Helen was born on April 26, 1921 in Bicknell, Indiana; the daughter of the late Walter and Hazel (Burnett) Wilkinson. Helen was a dedicated Registered Nurse for over 30 years at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City and was known for delivering the only set of triplets born at the hospital. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Nursing Association, the Senior Circle in Granite City, past member of her senior bowling league, member of Young At Heart and a faithful member of Central Christian Church in Granite City where she volunteered her time and talents for many years. In her free time Helen enjoyed her days of spending time with her family and friends and all the special times they shared together.
Helen is survived by and will be missed by her sister; Lynda Leggett of Maryville, IL; nieces, Kathy and Richard Santel, Vicki and Alan Turcott, Tammy and Scooter Van Slyke , Patti French, Jaime Leggett; nephew, Steve Wilkinson and fiance’ Dana York.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband; George Gages, whom she married on December 18, 1942; son, Mark Gages; step-mom, Mona (Hedrick) Wilkinson; brother, George and Verna Wilkinson; step-brother, Robert Fisher; nephew, Gary Wilkinson; brother-in-law, James Leggett; sisters-in-law, Mary Gages, Mary Melton and many other close family members and friends.

Elizabeth Ann “Beth” Gonzalez, 62, of Godfrey and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 10:38 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023 at home.
She was born March 4, 1961, in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Imogene (Filippo) Talley and the late Clyde White.
Beth cherished her family and enjoyed her days of fishing, sewing and woodworking.
She is survived by two daughters, Jessica Eaker of Granite City and Tori Gonzalez of Belleville; three grandchildren, Jayden Agular, Serena Chepely and Ryeland Wagenecht; a brother, Paul Talley of Godfrey; a sister, Debora Talley of Texas; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In celebration of her life and in accordance to her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service may be held at a later date.

Earl C. Buenger, 90, of Glen Carbon and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at his home at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.
He was born January 15, 1933, in Granite City, a son of the late Charles August and Edna Louise (Hommert) Buenger.
He married the love of his life, Marcia Lee (Rittenhouse) Buenger on April 30, 1955, at St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City and she survives.
He had worked at O’Brien Tire in Granite City since 1951 and purchased the business in 1970. He continued as the owner and operator until 1992 when he turned it over to his sons. He was a Past President and member of the Illinois Tire Dealers Association and on the Board of Directors of the National Tire Dealers Association.
The United States Army veteran proudly served his country as a supply sergeant with the 1st Calvary division from 1953 until 1955 while stationed in Sapporo, Japan. He was a lifetime faithful member of St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City where he was baptized, confirmed and married. He had served as Past President and on the Church Council for many years. He was very involved in the community throughout the years. He was a Board member of the Paddler’s Swim club and helped to establish the Southwestern Illinois Swim Association. Earl had served over 25 years of service on the Boards with First Granite City National Bank, Magna Bank, Union Planters Bank and Regions Bank and as a member of the Granite City Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. # 1063 with 53 years of membership. He also served over 25 years as a Board member of St. Elizabeth Hospital and the St. Elizabeth Hospital Wellness Center. He also helped to establish the St. Elizabeth Health Foundation Scholarship program and continued to support throughout the years. Earl and his wife loved to travel, visiting all 50 states and many memories made throughout the world. They were very interested in the history of the Lewis and Clark expedition and explored and drove the entire route from Camp DuBois in Hartford, Illinois to Fort Clatsop in Astoria, Oregon. They also loved their time spent at their home at Lake of The Ozarks, enjoying many good times with family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife of over 68 years, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Karen Buenger of Glen Carbon and Scott Buenger and Elizabeth Eck-Buenger of Carlyle; three grandchildren and spouses, Bryttany and Andrew Nelson, Ian and Mikayla Buenger and Ryan Buenger; several great-grandchildren; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Mary Lou Buenger. J.Y. Fitzhugh, 92, of Granite City, IL died on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
He was born on July 9, 1931 in Dover, TN to Waldon and Katie (Joyce) Fitzhugh. J.Y. married Donna Shelton in Granite City, IL on June 3, 1955.
The loving husband and father retired from the Granite City School District as a teacher in 1990 after 30+ years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, yard work and repairing things for family and neighbors. J.Y. was a jack of all trades and a hard worker.
Besides his wife, J.Y. is survived by a daughter, Marsha Smith of Granite City; 2 sons: Bradley (Patricia) Fitzhugh of Knoxville, TN and David Fitzhugh of Granite City; 7 grandchildren: Abraham Smith, Katie Hahs, Phillip Fitzhugh, Shelia Breidegam, Thomas Fitzhugh, Justin Lynn and Joshua Lynn; 11 great grandchildren and a sister, Mary McGee of Dover, TN.

Glen E. Sprankle, 82, of Granite City, IL died on Friday, October 20, 2023 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
He was born on November 10, 1940 in Granite City, IL to Glen W. and Margaret (Richards) Sprankle.
Glen married Kathy Heubschman in Las Vegas, NV on November 10, 1981.
Glen was a member of the Granite City Elks and retired from Washington University in St. Louis as a maintenance member in physical facilities. He was an avid golfer and a proud Chicago Cubs fan. Glen loved his family and friends

Jean J. Schwarzkopf, 99, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 2:13 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at her home with her family at her side.
She was born September 29, 1924, in Madison, Illinois, a daughter of the late Theodore DuBay and the late Martha (Holody) Sadrakula.
She married the love of her life, Francis B. “Barney” Schwarzkopf on February 21, 1954, in Madison, Illinois and he passed away on January 19, 2018.
Jean was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City where she was a member of the Altar Society. She enjoyed reading and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and John Benning of Collinsville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Debbie Schwarzkopf of Collinsville, Mark Schwarzkopf of Granite City and Frank and Karen Schwarzkopf of Granite City; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jessica Schwarzkopf, Kyle and Cassie Schwarzkopf, Corey Schwarzkopf, Rachel and Nathan Wagner, Ryan and Jenna Schwarzkopf and Derek Benning; four great grandchildren, Gus Schwarzkopf, Isla Schwarzkopf, Calvin Wagner and Theo Schwarzkopf; other extended family and friends.

Willie Norman Sharp, 91, of East Alton, Illinois, formerly of Granite City, Illinois and Warrenton, Missouri, born June 5, 1932 in Keenes, Illinois, passed away, Monday, October 16, 2023, peacefully at his residence with family by his side.
Willie proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked many years as a Quality Control Manager with A.O. Smith in Granite City, Illinois and The Binkley Company, in Warrenton, Missouri.
He enjoyed woodworking and building things with his hands.
He was a charter member of Prospect General Baptist Church in Wentzville, MO and a faithful member of Mt Zion General Baptist Church in Granite City, Illinois. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Geraldine “Gerry” Sharp, nee Withrow, whom he married, Dec. 12, 1953 in Bluford, Illinois; his daughter, Renee Sharp, of East Alton, Illinois; three sisters-in-law, Beverly Curry and Renda (Jimmie) Fitzjerrells, both of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Socorro Withrow, of Mundelein, Illinois; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Jo-Ann Helen Gilley, 88, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 3:50 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Edwardsville.
She was born July 27, 1935, in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late John and Helen (Probst) Gonza.
She married Marion Gayle Gilley on June 15, 1959, in East St. Louis, Illinois and he passed away on January 18, 2014.
She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City and enjoyed her years of attending H.O.P.E. luncheons.She loved playing bingo and visiting the area casinos. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by five children, Colleen (Paul) Berends of Edwardsville, Toney “Too Tall” (Vicky Walton) Gilley of Granite City, John M. Gilley of Granite City, Michael G. Gilley of Jefferson City, Missouri and Kathleen C. Harris of Glen Carbon; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a brother, Russell (Betsy) Kellher of Granite City; other extended family and friends.

Larry Wayne “Red” Taylor, 63, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 10:00 p.m. Fri. Oct. 13, 2023 at his home.
He was born Mar. 9, 1960 in St. Louis, MO to the late Albert and Ola May (Bridges) Taylor.
Red had been a forklift operator and liked to refer to himself as an “Eccentric Collector” of things that caught his interest.
He is survived by 4 siblings: Jimmy (Pyllea) Taylor of Staunton, IL, Linda Hill of Granite City, Stevie Taylor of Granite City and JoAnn (Ricky) Leonard of Jonesboro, AR.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Taylor.

Elizabeth Eileen Hall, 89, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Stearns Nursing and Rehab in Granite City.
She was born December 30, 1933, in Wilderness, Missouri, a daughter of the late Raymond Allen and Agnes Mae (Simpson) Millsap.
She married Edward “Gene” Hall on June 20, 1953, in St. Louis, Missouri, and he passed away on July 17, 2013.
Elizabeth served her beloved students whom she cherished in the Granite City School District until her retirement after many years.
She was a member of Johnson Road Baptist Church in Granite City, volunteered at Gateway Regional Medical Center and enjoyed attending the H.O.P.E. widow’s luncheons. She had received Illinois Science Teacher of the Years and was instrumental in creating and maintaining the outdoor classroom and butterfly emporium and enjoyed her many summers of helping with Loggerhead Turtle research. Elizabeth loved her cats and nature and enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Susan Hall of Granite City; a daughter, Ronda Anderson of Granite City; daughter-in-law, Kim Hall of Granite City; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; other extended family and many friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kent Hall of Granite City; a brother, Raymond Allen Millsap Jr.; two sisters, Maxine Wheeler and Norma Jean Reynolds and an infant, Baby Millsap.

Carol A. Braundmeier, 81 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.
Carol was born on January 23, 1942 in Granite City; the daughter of the late Joe and Clara (Warren) Easley. Carol was a long time nurse’s aide at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City and a faithful member of St. Peter United Church of Christ and St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City. In her free time Carol enjoyed her days of attending H.O.P.E. luncheons that were hosted by Irwin Chapel and spending time with her family and friends. Carol will be remembered for her loving heart and the love of her family and all the special times they shared together.

He was born to Paul Smith and the late Vicki (Doughtery) Smith on July 7, 1974 in St. Louis, MO. Michael loved to fish, camp and go to the horse track. He was a great father, son, brother and uncle.

James W. “Jim” Leonard, also known as “Big Daddy Woo Woo”, 76, of Madison, IL, passed away at 5:16 a.m. Sat. Oct. 14, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Dec. 1, 1946 in Memphis, TN to the late Wallace & Mamie Lee (Dunlap) Leonard.
On Oct. 3, 1992, he and Vickie Mayes were married in Madison, IL. She survives in Madison.
Jim was a U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran and proudly served aboard the U.S.S. Orleck DD-886 as a gunner. He went on to work for and later retired from Tower Automotive.
He loved to be outdoors and enjoyed hunting. He also loved going to the casino to try his luck.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 children: Michael Leonard, Jason (Sarah) Leonard of Pontoon Beach, IL and Sandra (Ernie) Pool of Granite City, IL; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother: Jerry (Nancy) Leonard of MS; and 2 sisters: Debbie Newingham and Jana (James) Harrison of AR.

Jacqueline “Jackie” Marie Harris, age 57, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, MO.
Jackie was born on November 18, 1965 in Granite City, IL, a daughter of Michael Harris of Pontoon Beach, IL and the late Mary Ann (Murphy) Harris.
Jackie will be remembered as a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and a friend to many. She enjoyed serving her community, working in her garden, and enjoying a glass of bourbon and a fine cigar.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her friends and family. Jackie loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Paula J. Miles, 64, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 2:46 p.m., Fri. Oct. 13, 2023 at her home.
She was born July 23, 1959 in Granite City to the late Richard & Barbara (Rowlett) Elmore.
Paula was employed at the Fairfield Inn as a clerk. In her spare time, she loved to crochet and catch up on everything Disney.
She is survived by 2 sisters: Kathy Whitford and Kristi (Tim) Crider; and a brother: Rick Elmore, all of Granite City; and many nieces and nephews who she loved like her own children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Brad Whitford.

Carolyn Ann Thomas, 86, of Pontoon Beach, IL, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Mon. Oct. 9, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born Apr. 18, 1937 in Carterville, IL to the late Raymond & Anna (Phillips) Phillips.
She and Carl Chism were married Dec. 25, 1954. He preceded her in death Aug. 1, 1999. Then on Sept. 1, 2001, she and Edgar “Ed” A. Thomas were married in Granite City, IL. He survives.
Carolyn had worked for Sun Line Candy and then as a Dupo School bus driver for 17 years before retirement. Carolyn and Ed had been longtime members of Pontoon Baptist Church where she played as organist and pianist. She also taught Sunday School and helped The Lions Club with Easter eggs. They then became members of Bethesda Baptist Church where she served as an active member.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by 4 children and their spouses: Phillip Dale & Vicki Chism of Dupo, IL, Brian Lee & Tracy Chism of Dupo, Edgar A. & Tenisha Thomas Jr. of Edwardsville, IL and Jeffrey Carl & Sonya Chism of Arnold, MO; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a niece Charlene; nephew Jack Phillips; In-laws: Dorothy Spicer, Maryland Dickey, Charles Thomas and Carolyn Bloomquist.

Mrs. Kevin Y. Spealman, 48, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 1:55 p.m. on Monday, October 9, 2023, in the emergency room at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
She was born November 17, 1974, in Denver, Colorado, a daughter of Sharon (McGee) Lievens of Granite City and the late Joseph Lievens.
She married Brian L. Spealman on April 11, 2008, in Edwardsville and he survives.
Kevin was very creative and artistic in drawing. She had a love of nature, watching the sunset, days of camping and traveling and helping and caring for animals. She cherished her daughter and grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and mother, she is survived by a daughter, Andrea Gieseking and her fiancé, John Chrusciel of Granite City; two grandchildren, Waylon and Adalynn Chrusciel; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Carl Chrusciel of Granite City; mother-in-law, Donna Spealman of Troy; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Lawrence Spealman.
A celebration of her life will be held in the near future and will be announced.

Cynthia Ann Drennan, 67 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.
Cynthia was born on October 2, 1956 in Granite City; the daughter of the late Wilbert E. and Lorraine “Cookie” (Merski) Niepert. Cynthia had worked for Boeing as a System Analyst giving 45 years of service and was a dedicated member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City. Cynthia was known for her heart of gold and was always putting the needs of others before her own and especially her family. She will be remembered for the love of her family and all the special times they shared together.
Cynthia is survived by and will be missed by her loving husband; Phillip E. Drennan Jr. whom she married on September 16, 1995; children, Bruce and Megan Drennan of Granite City, Jessica and Billy Walker of Granite City, James Drennan of Lucerne, CA, Gary and Jessica Drennan of Indian Trail, NC, Lisa Drennan of Concord, NC; grandchildren, Kilee Walker, Gavin Powers, Kayla Powers, Wyatt Walker, Cadence Smith, Summer Gabriel; brother, Edwin and Joan Niepert of Brighton, IL and many other close family members and friends.

Wanda (Torchy) Carolyn Lear, 90, of Granite City, IL passed away in her home, surrounded by her family on October 9, 2023.
She was born to the late Thomas William and Beulah (Gunderson) Boyd on May 20, 1933 in Gayville, South Dakota. Wanda was a Registered Nurse, she worked at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and Gateway Regional Medical Center; where she retired from after 33 years. She was devoted to raising and helping children. Her family describes her as the strongest person they knew. She loved to sew, crochet and watch Jeopardy.
She is survived by a daughter: Lynda Cunningham of Granite City, IL; 2 sons: William Lear of Granite City, Terry (Ellen Ruth) Lear of Collinsivlle, IL; 13 grandchildren: Lynda (David) Scheer, Amanda Cunningham, Keri Will, Thomas (Charlene) Lear, Elise (Justin) Rayborn, James (Sasha) Lear, Alexis Cunningham, Eden Rayborn, Gus Raybron, James Lear II, Henson Lear, Remington Lear, Titan Conger; and a brother; Daniel Boyd of Springfield, IL
Besides her parents, Wanda is preceded in death by a sister: Joyce Clement; and 3 brothers: David Boyd, Gerald Boyd and Max Boyd.

Jerry Homer Smith, 89, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 9:42 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023, at his home.
He was born July 22, 1934, in Paragould, Arkansas, a son of the late Homer Harrison and Leah Elsa (Waters) Smith.
He married the love of his life, Barbara Nell (Phillips) Smith on December 20, 1953, in Paragould, Arkansas and she survives.
Jerry worked very hard to provide for his family in many different jobs throughout his life. He had worked with Ford Motor Company, Bi-State Transit, but was best known for serving as a manager of a school bus contract in Granite City for many years with RW Harmon and then Laidlaw. Prior to his retirement, he was the regional district manager over Southern Illinois. Following his retirement, he moved to Macomb, Illinois and served five years working with First Student bus transportation, working with the Western Illinois college and the local school districts. He and his wife were longtime members of Calvary Baptist Church and later attended Suburban-Unity Baptist Church in Granite City. He enjoyed teaching Sunday school, being with family and friends and had a great love of nature. He loved his days of fishing, gardening, feeding the birds and watching the sunset.
In addition to his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, he is survived by three daughters, Diana Kraus of Waterloo, Illinois, Cindy Rice of Cape Fair, Missouri and Kimberly Rose of Midlothian, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Heather Arnett, Robert Smith Kraus, Rebekah Moxey, Billy Patterson, Andrew Rose, Allison Rose and Abigail Broughton; eight great grandchildren, Madelyn, Mason, McKayla, Liam, Raiden, Evelyn, Michael and Alyssa; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Jewel Marie (Dawson) Smith; two sons-in-law, Steven Rice and Marty Rose; a granddaughter, Sarah Arnett; a sister, Betty Brown and four brothers, Robert Smith, William “Billy” Harold Smith, Avery Gene Smith and William G. “Dubs” Dawson.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Calvary Baptist Church, 3000 Washington Avenue in Granite City on Monday, October 16, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon with Reverend Wesley Hahn officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.

Rhonda Lynn Cuvar, 64, of Granite City, IL died on Friday, October 6, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born on January 8, 1959 in Granite City, IL to Nina (Bush) Foreman.
The loving daughter and mother retired from First Student Bus Transportation after 18 years of service driving school busses for the Granite City schools. She was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association of Illinois and a member of the patriot guard. Rhonda enjoyed motorcycles, fishing, camping and traveling. Her most important things were spending time with her family and friends.
Besides her mother, Rhonda is survived by 2 sons: Michael Cuvar of Granite City and Phillip (Gina Denson) Cuvar of Granite City; 3 grandchildren: Seth Cuvar, Lilly Cuvar and Lacy Weiser; a brother, Jimmie Sparks of Granite City and a sister, Laura Foreman of Mitchell, IL. Also surviving are a sister in law, Becky Wells of Granite City and her former husband, Paul Lee Cuvar of Granite City.
Rhonda is preceded in death by her step-father, Clifford Foreman and a brother, T.K. Foreman.

Mary Jean Freese, age 80, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Mary was born on August 8, 1943 in St. Louis, MO, a daughter of the late Joseph and Evelyn (Herscher) Robinson.
Mary will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and a dear friend. She was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church in Madison, IL. Mary served as a Sunday school teacher, choir director, and held many other roles at the church in her fifty years of membership. She retired from Mallinckrodt Pharmaceutical Company as an international account specialist after many years of dedicated service.
Mary enjoyed watching game shows, college football games and St. Louis Cardinals baseball games. She was also an amazing cook and she loved preparing meals for her family, and especially on the holidays. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Mary loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family and spoiling her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her step-mother, Eileen Robinson; sister, Darline King; and by her brother-in-law, Donald King Sr.

Daniel “Dan” James Meyer, age 74, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. Dan was born on February 15, 1949 in Michigan, a son of the late Alfred and Grace (Witmore) Meyer.
Dan will be remembered as a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and a dear friend to many. He was an outdoorsman who loved going fishing. Dan also enjoyed tinkering in his garage, and he could fix or build anything he puts his mind to. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dan will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by Judy Meyer, the love of his life.

George W. McIlroy, 85, of Granite City, IL died on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Cedarhurst Memory Care in Granite City, IL.
He was born on October 2, 1938 in Charleston, MO to Prentice and Mary Sue (Bone) McIlroy.
George married Beverly “Bev” Thomas in Granite City, IL on October 25, 1962. She preceded him in death in 2019.
The U. S. Air force veteran was a supervisor at Laclede Steel in Madison, IL and retired from United Aircraft Services in Pontoon Beach, IL.

Don M. Wilson Sr., 85, of Madison, Illinois passed away at 10:36 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
He was born August 29, 1938, in Granite City, a son of the late Robert Ulysess and Lillian Elizabeth (Rice) Wilson.
He married Jeanette W. (Morgan) Wilson on April 27, 1956, in Advance, Missouri and she passed away on September 14, 2018.
He served as a jailor with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department and had also as an alderman and police officer in Madison for several years. He also enjoyed his years of working as an over the road truck driver and mechanic. He enjoyed his days of tinkering with lawn mowers and cars and hunting and trout fishing. Don was an all-around good guy to everyone and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathi and Frank Chandler of Madison and Donna and Alan Funk of Granite City; a son and daughter-in-law, Don M. and Tina Wilson Jr. of Madison; six grandchildren and spouses, Ian Chandler, Brandon Chandler, Crystal and Andrew Gray, Sarah and William Jansma, Kristen and Chris Zahari and John P. Lance; several great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Diane Wilson of Granite City; several nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

Therese Mary Pashea, 71, of O’Fallon, Illinois passed away peacefully at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the Carlyle Healthcare Center. She was born August 30, 1952, in Granite City, Illinois, a daughter of the late Ony M. Pashea Sr. and the late Ernestine Catherine (Ramsey) Pashea.
Therese lived a full life and was always there to lend a hand. She was a schoolteacher for years and also worked in the healthcare field as a phlebotomist for many years.
Therese was dedicated to her faith and was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City, where she had many dear friends.
A big St. Louis Cardinals fan through the years and was always cheering them on. She was also an avid swimmer for over 40 years. Therese had been swimming at the YMCA in O’Fallon for years and will sorely be missed by all of her friends there. Therese was one of those people you don’t soon forget. She was always glad to see you, never met a stranger, full of energy and fun to be around. A friend to the end.
Therese is survived by several brothers and sisters and their spouses, Ony and Joan Pashea Jr., Dale and Carole Pashea, Dolores Loyet, Joe Pashea, Mark Pashea, Ann Leonard and Paul and Melinda Pashea; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In celebration of her life, a Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, with Father Steve Thompson as celebrant. Private burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville at a later date. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Church or as Masses.
