John Louis Brusatti was born to the late Louis Henry Brusatti and late Phyllis Jean Shaw, a CPA and school teacher on July 4, 1961; and grew up in his family home in Granite City, IL. His friends and family knew him as Brew, John Boy, Johnny B, Johnny “Wingman”.
He earned the rank of an Eagle Scout, and played on the Granite City High School Soccer Team who were State Champions 1976 – 1980. He graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in Finance, where he met his wife of 14 years, Monica. He was very close to her family and travelled to Ecuador often to visit them. He moved to Chicago after graduation and started his career as a Mortgage Broker. He was an avid sports fan, while in Chicago he became a Black Hawks, Bulls, Cubs, and Chicago Fire fan. When his rival teams played against each other, his loyalty was often tested – St. Louis triumphed. He returned to Granite City several years ago
His favorite places to watch sports became Ernie and Annie’s and the Mexican Honorary Commission where he was a member. You would find him there not only watching his favorite teams with friends but helping out wherever needed. He was highly intelligent, quick witted, playful, a loyal friend, and a genuinely good person. He stayed connected with his friends from high school and college through the years. What most don’t know about him is that he was a poet and has penciled over 150 poems, writing for the people he loved. He would quote Robert Frost and Henry Thoreau in conversation and letters. He loved to listen to classic rock. He would take in and listen to the lyrics and talk about how powerful words are. He was dedicated to Special Olympics for many years while in Chicago. He would offer a helping hand to many – no questions asked. His motto was “if someone is 51% good then they are a good person in my eyes” and lived that to the end of his life.
