Granite City is celebrating the addition of a new member to its fire service family as Andrew Clark was officially sworn in as the newest firefighter for the Granite City Fire Department. The ceremony was conducted by Granite City City Clerk Jenna DeYong, with Granite City Fire Commissioner Steve Nonn proudly in attendance.

Clark’s swearing‑in was made even more meaningful by the presence of his children who stood by his side and watched their mother who had the honor of pinning on his badge. A moment that reflected both pride and the deep commitment behind a career in public service, and one his children will always remember.

A graduate of Granite City High School, Clark returns to his hometown with an impressive background. He is an Air Force veteran, where he served as a firefighter, and he brings additional experience from other fire departments as well. His training and service have prepared him for the next chapter of his career here in Granite City.

On Monday, Clark will begin seven weeks of intensive training at the Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI) Fire Academy in Champaign. The program includes both classroom instruction and live‑fire exercises designed to prepare recruits for the demands of modern firefighting.

The department expressed its enthusiasm in welcoming him home: Clark’s return to Granite City marks not only the start of a promising career, but also a continuation of the strong tradition of local residents stepping forward to serve their community.

As he begins his academy training, the Granite City community extends its congratulations and appreciation and looks forward to seeing him back in town, ready to serve and protect.
