December 6, 2025
A Granite City police officer is recovering after being shot during a call on Friday afternoon, prompting a large-scale manhunt that ended with the suspect’s arrest early Saturday morning.

Authorities say officers responded to a disturbance in the 2000 block of Johnson Road on December 5 when 26-year-old DJ Marshall of Granite City allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire. One officer was struck and transported to a St. Louis hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

Following the shooting, law enforcement agencies including the Illinois State Police and Madison County Sheriff’s Office joined Granite City police in an intensive search for Marshall. After several hours, officers located and apprehended him around 3 a.m. on December 6.

Marshall is expected to face multiple charges, including attempted murder of a police officer. Officials have not yet released details about his initial court appearance.
