Granite City School District #9 is proud to announce the hiring of Sherand Boyd Jr. as the new Head Football Coach and Special Education Teacher at Granite City High School.
Boyd brings a strong blend of coaching experience, classroom leadership, and personal achievement that will serve GCHS students both on and off the field.
Boyd joins Granite City after seven years of coaching at the high school and collegiate levels. Most recently, he served as the passing game coordinator and cornerbacks coach at Edwardsville High School, helping guide one of the region’s most competitive programs.
His coaching background also includes roles at Belleville West High School, McKendree University, and De Smet Jesuit High School, giving him a wide range of experience working with student‑athletes across different systems and levels of play.
Before beginning his coaching career, Boyd was a standout collegiate athlete at the University of Northern Colorado, where he was a three‑year letterman at safety. From 2016–18, he appeared in 31 games with 20 starts, earning recognition as a team captain and Honorable Mention All‑Big Sky Conference selection. During the 2018 season, he tied the school’s Division I single‑season interception record and finished fourth on the team in tackles.
Boyd’s football roots run deep. At Belleville West High School, he was a three‑time All‑Conference player, a three‑time team captain, and a key contributor on both sides of the ball as a quarterback and outside linebacker, helping lead the Maroons to the IHSA playoffs.
In addition to his coaching background, Boyd brings seven years of experience in education, including his most recent role as a Special Education Teacher at Edwardsville High School. He has also taught at Belleville West and De Smet Jesuit, building a strong reputation for connecting with students and supporting their academic success.
Boyd earned his bachelor’s degree in special education from the University of Northern Colorado in 2019 and his master’s degree in educational leadership from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2022.
Granite City is excited to welcome Coach Boyd to the Warrior family and looks forward to the leadership, energy, and commitment he will bring to both the classroom and the football program.
