A shocking road rage incident in St. Louis this summer ended not just with a bullet, but with a breakthrough. Charges to a local Granite City man, thanks to a dashboard camera.

On July 21, a driver reported being tailgated by a red truck while trying to merge onto Interstate 70. As the truck passed, the driver fired a shot, striking the victim’s Chevrolet Silverado. What the shooter didn’t count on? The Silverado was equipped with a dash cam that recorded everything.

That footage became the key piece of evidence. Investigators used it, along with license plate readers and surveillance video, to identify the suspect as Richard Lehmkuhl, a 63-year-old Granite City resident. When confronted with the video, Lehmkuhl confessed and showed officers both the truck and the firearm used in the shooting.

He now faces multiple felony charges, including: First Degree Assault, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Two Counts of Armed Criminal Action

This case is a powerful reminder that dash cams aren’t just for documenting fender benders. They can:
Capture criminal behavior in real time
Provide indisputable evidence for law enforcement
Protect drivers from false claims or legal ambiguity
Offer peace of mind every time you hit the road

Whether you’re commuting daily or taking a weekend drive, a dash cam could be the most important passenger in your vehicle.
