Caravan Rolls Into Granite City With a Texas‑Sized Challenge!

Granite City is about to host a piece of Route 66 history, and it’s happening right in The District. On Monday, June 22 from 4–7 p.m., the It’s Electric Neon Sign Park will welcome the Route 66 Caravan, traveling in partnership with First Alert 4 and the world‑famous Big Texan Steakhouse of Amarillo, Texas. Their mission: bring the legendary 72 oz. Steak Challenge to Granite City for one unforgettable evening.
This traveling event is making only select stops along the Mother Road, and Granite City is proudly one of them. A one‑of‑a‑kind eating challenge. One brave competitor will take the stage to attempt the iconic Big Texan feat, a full 72‑ounce steak dinner, sides and all, completed within the time limit. It’s a spectacle that draws crowds across the country, and now residents can watch it live without leaving town.
At the time of publication, the Big Texan Steakhouse has not yet announced which challenger will be attempting the 72‑ounce steak. Updates will be shared as soon as they are released. Bring your classic car, and your route 66 spirit.
While this isn’t an official car show, The District is inviting everyone with a classic car to cruise in, park, and help set the Route 66 mood. Whether it’s a vintage Chevy, a polished Ford, or a quirky retro ride, the more nostalgia the better. Spectators can stroll through the lineup, snap photos under the neon signs, and enjoy the unmistakable charm of Granite City’s growing entertainment district.
