And don't forget, Cinco De Mayo and Memorial Day...what a fun month. Everyone please remember Sean Cook "Elcooksta" in your prayers while he's away serving our country. |

Meagan Paschedag, a graduating senior at Granite City High School, is the winner of this year’s Patriots in the Park essay award. Each spring, members of the English Department at GCHS offer their senior classes the option to write an essay on the Patriots’ theme, which this year is “Live Your Dream.” The students’ essays are then evaluated by members of the department; the winner receives a savings bond and the honor of reading the essay as part of a program at the Patriots in the Park celebration at Wilson Park on the Fourth of July. Meagan, daughter of Tina and Randy Paschedag, is an excellent student. She performed with distinction on her Prairie State Achievement Exam by meeting the Illinois State Learning Standards in all categories. She is a 2009 State Scholar. Meagan is also active in many organizations, including National Honor Society and the Renaissance Committee, which sponsors activities designed to foster mutual appreciation among students, staff, teachers and administrators at Granite City High School. She has for four years played on the high school volleyball team and the soccer team. She is also an ALPHA Peer Leader, and she was named Elks’ Student of the Month. Meagan is a volunteer worker for Saint Elizabeth’s parish. Meagan will continue her education by pursuing a degree in nursing at University of Missouri at Columbia this coming autumn. Submitted by Jo Ann Aleman, Chairman of the Department of English at GCHS |
