Happy February Everyone! And Happy Valentine's Day too! Spring is slowly but surely heading our way, and thanks to Punxutawney Phil, it may be arriving early because he did not see his shadow! The days are growing a little longer and Daylight Saving Time will begin in about five weeks on March 13 In the meantime, there is much going on in our neck of the woods this month. The Granite City Community Band will be performing their free Solo & Ensemble Concert at SWIC on the nineteenth of this month. A very enjoyable way to spend the evening. The Good Samaritan House will be hosting a Super Hero Trivia Night. This is a family friendly event and all proceeds will go to helping the shelter provide much needed services to homeless women and children. This is a very worthy cause that needs our support. There is a Quarter Auction, a spaghetti dinner and many other activities you can participate in this month, so scroll on down and take a look around! Remember, send us your non-profit fund raising information, your birthday and anniversary announcements..they are always published free of charge on GraniteCityGossip.com. And as always, check back often-new information is always published at the bottom of the home page when we receive it! |

CONGRATULATIONS to GCHS Band members Jacob Cowley, Ian Cowley, and Cameron Stofel for being selected to participate in the Illinois Music Educator’s Association All-State Band Festival. The Illinois Music Educator's Association (IMEA) is an organization established to provide professional growth opportunities for Illinois music teachers and to provide music making opportunities for the most talented music students in the state. Outstanding students undergo a rigorous audition procedure based on musical etudes, scales, and sight-reading in order to be selected to participate in the District Festival in November. Students receiving high scores at the IMEA District Festival advanced to perform at the IMEA All-State Festival on January 30, 2016. GCHS Band students advanced to the following ensembles. • Jacob Cowley: Oboe - IMEA All-State Band • Ian Cowley: Trumpet - IMEA Honors All-State Band • Cameron Stofel: Trumpet – IMEA Honors All-State Orchestra The students performed before a packed house in the Peoria Civic Center on January 30, 2016. Wyatt Roberds, Director of Bands at Granite City High School, said, “One of the real joys of being a music teacher is having the opportunity to work with such talented students. This is the highest honor high school musicians can receive, and we are extremely proud of them!” From the Granite City High School Marching Band FB |
